Always loved this ending and originally looped it for my Landlocked custom edit a while back, but the new backing tracks and alternate versions gave me lots more to work with, including a proper instrumental take. Hey nice job on this one! It’s cool to hear a different take on it, and the backing vocal harmonies *REALLY* shine bright on this. I almost kind of like the way the lead vocals are pushed down in the mix… not because I have no love for Mike Love (though I actually don’t)… but because it takes a song that’s already dreamy, and makes it even dreamier. The dreaminess (is that even a word?) of this song is its strongest and most identifiable trait, and you’ve upped the ante significantly. Bravo! 👏 👍

How did they make those guitars sound (the main Fender sounding lead part) so metallic and just slightly chorusy?? It's insane. Gotta be leslie speaker in a subtle way?? Univibe??? That's all that was on the market as far as creating that tone....

Bruce johnson. He joined when Brian stopped touring in the mid 60s. He wrote some of my favorite beach boy songs, especially Tears in the Morning@melting94

@@melting94Bruce replaced Glen Campbell (who had filled in for Brian at their live shows) as their touring bassist, and made his recording debut with them on the “Summer Days and Summer Nights” album. He continued to be an official member of the band until he left in ‘72, and then returned in ‘79. He’s remained with them ever since.
i went from This Whole World and thought it doesn't get any better than that and then this comes on. Divine!
The great thing about this era of the Beach Boys (‘70-‘71) is the tasteful diversity of different styles represented on those albums (Sunflowers, Surf’s Up). They were functioning as more of a democracy, with the songwriting at least, on both of those albums. Of course there were the wonderful Brian-penned songs, but then Dennis and Carl both stepped up and put something on the table, as did Bruce and Al. Even as much as I don’t like the guy, Mike was absolutely brilliant on this song. One of his best vocal performances ever. The beginning of the 70’s were just as much of a creatively rich period as the Pet Sounds/Good Vibrations mid 60’s era had been, only few people actually got to hear it at the time since the radio stations weren’t playing it, and the record stores weren’t advertising the new releases.
@@Shikta-poobah67 Deffo. I know I am in a minority here, but I would rate Sunflower/ Surfs Up over Pet Sounds. Among my favourite albums of all time. It is sad that the Beach Boys as a true group exploring different sound only lasted a few years. I wonder what would have happened post Holland/ So Tough if it wasn't for the nostalgia tours, "Brian is Back" and personal problems taking over. If you take Pacific Ocean Blue, with contributions from the other boys, the best of Carl's solo material, the gems that were unreleased, a few choice cuts from the next few albums polished them, add a few original numbers, we could have had more classics.

that's probably the most ahead of it's time song ever recorded, and it wasn't even made by Brian itself the boys were geniuses
It took me a while to really understand and appreciate Smile. This track was odd on my first listen. One month later this is one of my favorites to sing along with. Brian Wilson is a brilliant songwriter.

Oh my god. How did I miss this? I love when people put their unique mixing spin on BB songs. It doesn't bother me like it does some. It's a tribute by great fans. This is amazing. Who cares if the vocals are perfectly mixed. I love the drum out front. Instant chills starting at 2:18. All I Wanna Do has always been the lost masterpiece. Their greatest song of the decade. Yes, other candidates such as the amazing Till I Die. But this has always felt like a true 'band' song. Till I Die, an ethereal beauty, has more the Brian 'solo' feel to it. It's so raw. All I wanna Do just has that something. After all these years I still find it hard to put a finger on with this beautiful music sometimes. It's their hearts on a platter. But maybe it just comes back to the vocals. Those voices. Those voices. Those voices.
