Was pushing the old Porsche 944 S2 pretty hard as I was close to getting very good time. unfortunately I dropped the tire pressure too low so it was working with less grip than normal.

First Hill Climb ever and the car just had a fresh paint job so was driving pretty conservatively - car definitely can run faster. Cheers to everyone that helped run an event like this in the middle of town.

I have the exact same car w/o your mods
@@johnfinch5522 nice same colour? I was taking it pretty easy on this hill climb as I’d just go the car back from it spending month away getting painted so was pretty nervous about going all out first drive.
so only about 10mph faster than my stock 1987 924S @ 140...
@@ScottRex-xy3jj the S2 keeps pulling close to 260 with a longer straight but yeah both the 924S and S2 are slow cars in a straight line
@@marmitenz5960 Agreed the 924 is a bit lighter and more aerodynamic. I do love driving slow cars fast!
@@ScottRex-xy3jj yeah can’t beat driving a slow/old car flat out on tight road!
All cars that are more than 20 years old are slow comparing to actual ones. In Germany it is impossible to drive a old Porsche (944 or 944s2) on Autobahn. Each minute a young guy is coming from behind and wants to begin a race... "Look, my new rented car is faster than a Porsche..." So it is better to drive a normal car for not to run into problems with this idiots.
Was the speed /times recorded by any on track equipment?
@@passolaman6338 yeah I can probably dig up some of the times and actual speed haha
Wider angle next time
I wasn’t driving but I’m sure he’s keen to slide the car round a lot more next time being a rally fan
Nope the turbo is better, especially at the track. Can boost to 15 psi and get 300 hp wheel. Good as the S2 is, it ain't THAT good..
Why haha? It All depends how the cars set up and the track/road…. having a little bit more top end power doesn’t mean much if you’re running a poorly maintained and crap handling non-MO30 set up turbo with the boost cranked to the moon on the poor original triple k turbo/induction system. Have beat plenty of cars with a lot more than 300 whp with the S2… the low end torque and tighter gears make a difference in the S2 when it’s not a straight line
@@marmitenz5960 Eh, more torque across the whole tach in the turbo cars. S2 has 180hp wheel tops...
@@georgelugenalt200 mine has 220 at the wheels with a chip and have a friend with ITBs with around 330 N/A power (he’s spent a fortune haha) happy to race any time haha
@@marmitenz5960 ok well that is pretty good, and you're to be congratulated on keeping such a fine car and tracking it. I have a garage full of SUVs, trucks and a Grand Marquis lol. I'd kill to have something like an S2. Too bad they didnt make a 944 turbo S2...
Is it kilometres per hour, or franklin per feet?
What exhaust system is that mate? Sounds great 👍
Thanks. It’s Just a custom 3” high flow rate build
S2 with BMW engine Six cylinders😮😮😮
Yeah a 2.0 CC, Six cilinder BMW.😅
Wow. Long legs too aye❤
Still not as fast as the commodore though!
Car sounds like a beast any idea how much power you are putting down ?
Not that much at the moment but it’s how it’s instantly delivered through the ITBs which makes the big difference on track and it all adds up(surprising how noticeable the gains are with little increases). Once a few things are sorted it should be around 250 at the wheels
Installing the same kit on my car this summer will be interesting
@@adonay944 nice a friend that has the same kit is already making over 250 down south! Definitely adds up on track!
Is this a 944 Turbo?
No
is that stock exhaust
Stock exhaust with just a Adrenaline R racing muffler on the end
@@marmitenz5960 Do you know which Adrenaline R muffler it is?
@@KJBlakstad I think it was called 9” oval. It’d probably be easier to find a decent muffler in your country and weld it on instead of shipping one over
@@marmitenz5960 No for sure, but it's nice to have a reference and the link between a sound and a muffler. Thanks, sounds great!
Nice under brakes😊
Good slippery moments 😮
I have done 146 in mine a few years back
Belleza
*Curious how the cars temps are after this i have a 1984 S2 944 and temps climb high after a 40min drive with squirts of speed up to 180kph im curious cause i shift at 5.5k rpm or less so i just want to know if the cars good if its at say 60% up on the temp guage?*
The car doesn’t climb temp wise only very slightly if I’m sitting at red line on the track for a few laps on another car’s bumper without much airflow… it sits about 1/4 even after long sessions at the track otherwise. It shouldn’t go up like that so maybe somethings not right
@@marmitenz5960 yup this is why were registering the car with porsche worldwide and getting the car looked at top to bottom.
Have you changed both thermostats..one on block other on radiator..and look for traces of oil...just in case oil cooler might have leak...it's linked into cooling system if not you can use spic and span to clean out system know a few shops that do it pour in bring up to operating temp flush out refill...oh don't forget to burp system if there's air pockets you'll get a overheating situation
It’s not an s2 if it’s from 1984
@@russellchristopher5657 apparently the S2 started development in laye 83, i also thought its just a S1 but no. Cars in with Porsche as we speak to refurbish everything cars only had one owner beforehand and is extremely well looked after.
Not bad. More of a canyon carver than a speed demon. You’d need a tuned 951 if you want speed.
100% the cars built and set up to brake well and hold speed round corners
Or a ventelator...trying to recall belive it was 1988...speed was about same as turbo
Max Speed 290 km/h (180 mph) is not fast ?
dat'sa rare cah
What is the exhaust setup on that thing? Sounds mint
Itb’s??
Yup
@@marmitenz5960 how did you do that?
@@kirkbuilds6732Danst engineering sells them in the UK
S2 with supercharger 😊
Almost as fast as my 951
Almost 😉 she gets up to 260 indicated eventually… although as you know a well set up turbo can go a lot faster than that. Hopefully I’ll borrow a friends turbo for the next event to see the difference… best ive done is 270 indicated in a turbo…
@@marmitenz5960 968s are great! And the 968 clubsports are the Shiznik Turbo 968 150 kg lighter very few made a few sent to Australia
@@marmitenz5960 Thats insanely fast for ~220 naturally aspirated hp! Love the 944. Wanted to buy one back in 2019 but sadly was a bit too late. Prices went up so much now!
Supercharge the S2 😈
I reckon a modern turbo with a Link G4 and a decent wastegate would be the way to go although it’ll be a big bill if I go down that route to make it reliable and have decent power. I think you’d need to do internals for decent power build
S2
There’s been a 1982 na sat on a driveway round the corner from my house for years I’ve been round and looked at it doesn’t start but hardly no rust (apparently the early models had better steel) wanted it for years now but can’t store it anywhere
That’d be an interesting project and great to get it back on the road again. It’ll likely be cheaper to get a running one that you can drive however. Never heard that about the steel although mine came factory galvanised which helps.
@@marmitenz5960I own it now runs nicely doing the clutch master cylinder now. she will be good to go soon I’m thinking of rebuilding the engine myself for good measure
@@LJC944 awesome! Engine might not need rebuilding you could ask someone local that knows a bit just to be sure. It would probably be worth doing or at least checking the fuel lines and the cam belt if it’s been sitting for while. But apart from that I hope you enjoy the car heaps!
👍👍👍
Nice run! 240kmh in 1 mile?
Thanks 240 “indicated” was about 230 real speed in a mile. the car can get upto 260 indicated although it takes a bit longer than a mile. Here’s a better video of another run with a passenger down the runway: ruclips.net/video/8U9m4CDJJp4/видео.html
@@marmitenz5960 thanks! Pretty impressed by the way the car accelerated even at 200+ kmh
@@MotorsportCentral The car felt really stable and safe at those speeds. I have a friend with a tuned 944 Turbo so I’ll try run that next year. Although as you know 944s weren’t built to go fast in a straight line… it’s crazy the track performance you get out of them with some good, break pads, suspension and tires. Normally 944 S2s are the same if not faster than the first and second gen Cayman S’s. the S2 doesn’t heat up much either so you can go out much longer on a track day than a Golf R or Audi/BMW on standard breaks
@@marmitenz5960 nice! I have a normal 944 type 2 myself, drove it a few times at top speed, which was also even higher than the factory figures. Also still very stable indeed! I am curious for the results of the Turbo!
@@MotorsportCentral awesome 8v 944s are great at the tracks too they can hold so much speed through the corners! Yeah will let you know if I do a runway run in the Turbo.
Better than Pugatti and Perrari
Looks like a Starlet from Toyota
These days I was looking to buy my first car and have a list and all, and I ended up finding a Porsche 944 (1985) with 60k miles for $10k but I don't know if that's a good price
10k USD seems pretty high. But it’s better to buy a well mechanically sorted car than a car which has been neglected (miles don’t matter as much). If the car has had lots of key work done to it recently you’ll save money in the long run. But shop around/do some research
s2 is the best
For road and maintenance S2, for max power 951
I reckon S2s make pretty decent race cars as they don’t get the heat soak the turbos and are super reliable on track… I have seen S2s that have been race cars there while lives on original engines and over 100,000kms of racing/track use
is this ruapuna? looks like a nice day.
944s2 engine Last long because is not turbo 😂
I reckon if you maintain either and don’t push too much extra boost through the turbo they’re both solid engines
Exhaust setup? Or is it just straight
Yeah it’s a after market exhaust which sounds pretty good although a bit too loud when you rev it up haha… I’m glad I left the sound proofing in.
@@marmitenz5960 haha nice, is it a whole setup or just a different backbox?
@@KJBlakstad ah just a cat Delete and a new “Adrenaline R” exhaust… it’s good fun revving it up and blowing your passengers away in tunnels with the windows down… I’ll post a better video up
@@marmitenz5960 please do!
@@KJBlakstad I posted the full clip from one of the clips in this short up but I’ll try do a better run through of the car at my next race..it’s pretty rough but I got it cheap and it’s fast on track
Whys it so hard to find any information on these cars?
I think they were only available in Japan so everything about them is in Japanese… google translates your best friend there’s some awesome snow drifting videos out there and a lot of history if you start searching in Japanese
@@marmitenz5960thank you I’m gonna try it
@@jarrodandrews2080 ruclips.net/video/pnRzVS0fQJE/видео.html
The turbo is more accessible. The S2 is more sought after.
I reckon a well sorted turbo is a very fun car and it can handle the road great along side modern gt3s.
My S2 is pretty solid and doesn’t seem to get as hot on the track as the turbo… although the S2 is behind on power as long as the Turbo driver can stay on boost… if the the turbo drops too much spool the S2 can get more corner exit speed
@@marmitenz5960 great comment!
The market has decided the turbo IS MORE SOUGHT after, not the S2
