A bit late to the party, but mine does the same. I've flown mine about 6 times (shitty, wet, windy weather lately), and mine flys great. Mine has a tendency to climb on full throttle, so i fly on maybe half throttle. I have had one "crash" landing on 3rd flight (about 2ft or so off the ground, throttled back on landing approach, big gust pushed it into the ground). Cracked a chunk out of the lower cowl, and ripped the left hand undercarriage leg mount off. Superglue fixed it in 30 seconds flat. Can't tell there was any damage at all. Hope you're having as much fun with your Staggerwing as I am with mine.

What other stove primus/optimus is the same size as the Svea? I had a monitor stove years ago and loved that thing ended up selling it, now I’m on the lookout for something similar just a little lighter/smaller

Holy shit! $1.50 to cgarge the battery??!! Your energy costs are outrageous. We pay 9 cents per kWh here….that means to charge that battery completely would cost 27 cents….. I’m glad I don’t live where you do. Terrible.

Good show ! It would be interesting to compare some of these old stoves with more modern ones. Just to see how technology has improved over the years. If at all !

I bought a Svea 123 in San Francisco in 1972 for $9. Didn’t like it much so I gave it away and went to canister stoves and then alcohol stoves. Now back to canister stoves because of fire restrictions in Northern California.

The 111 is a beast, they don’t make them like that anymore. Spend the time and fix it up. Would be a good candidate for the stove wars. I have one that was used as a guide’s stove in northern Quebec, Canada. Mid 60’s vintage, in good shape and works great.

I know nothing about these but let me say this. I once was with a friend that purchased a drone. There was a process, press and holding something while doing something else sort of stuff, that you had to go through where the remote control and the drone find each other so to speak and connect before the controls worked as they should. Maybe it is the same for planes.

You must have one hell of a collection. You asked about cats before. We have many Bobcat, Fox, a few Black Bear that are trying to make a comeback, and a serious overload of Coyotes. Back in the early 60s when my memory begins there were very few Yotes but now you cannot take 20 steps down any wood road without finding another pile of scat. There are folks with their stories of having seen a Cougar. I have my own. I worked for the people that maintain the river levee for many years and was out there every day for years. If nothing else I saw a 200 pound house cat with a thick tail like a breakfast sausage as long as its body. Crossed the road in front of me on a rainy day and made its way down the edge of a Pecan orchard and the wood line walking away from me as I crossed its path going on down the road. People will say that it cannot be, but the county we live in is named Coahoma which translates to red panther from the native tongue. I've never seen a bear, but many have. The biggest problem we have are the wild hogs. They tear up everything and eat everything. They are legal to hunt all year long as the are considered an invasive species. Some enjoy eating them, but I can smell them as soon as I get the fork near my head and no thank you. They stink in the wild and you can smell them before you see them if the wind is right sometimes. The 96 was always gonna win. It wouldn’t have been so close if you didn’t let the svea warm up so much before putting the pot on.

Neat. Light enough to put in back of something when behind the levee to ride out or back to camp for help after getting stuck in the mud. Save miles of walking.

Go with the Svea vs the 8R. I have both but their fun to play with. It would be interesting to try regular burner vs quiet burner (like a BernieDawg) as well.

Nothing like wool. I'm sitting here in me shorts and sandals. You know I'm still wearing some wool things I bought at a secondhand store 40 years ago. Obviously, they are not worn everyday but none of my canvas hunting stuff lasted that long without holes. Since you asked the other day. We are ok up here on our side. Of course, if you ask most Muricans (our side) is wherever we happen to be at the moment. I do not suffer from such. LOL. I try not to bother folks too much these days. I mentioned losing my hunting buddy of 40 plus years about three years ago now in another comment I made here a few months back, and with the health keeping from getting out like I once could, the computer has become my fishing hole and hunting stand. We sort of looked after one another in our old age while in the bush. Getting old is a blessing but sort of a mixed blessing at times. Not all get the chance so I'm not complaining just stating opinions. Anyway, as you can see, I will talk your ears off if allowed. I will have to go and watch the video again now as I was typing my mouth off while it played out. I recall the GIs of WW2 and Korea having small stoves that looked to be about the size of those German gas mask containers, size wise, if you remember the photos of those things on the German troops. I think in the movie "Battleground" Van Johnson's character (Harley) was trying to cook his eggs that he stole from the French lady on one of those stoves. I have a head filled with useless info it appears. I think the things burned motor gas and would be pumped up like Coleman stuff is pumped up. That's what prompted my question a couple of days ago when you posted the little Japanese stove, if their troops had something issued along that line to use in the field. One would think given the flood of Japanese products after the war into the world that they could have produced such a thing easily. Just never seen one of them if they did. Take care.

Thx, I've been using my 123 as my main stove continuously for over 35 years. I like how it throttles down for a simmer. Your video is delightfully honest and will provoke me to get a similar set-up

Nice Svea hack I have done a similar hack with the Stanley Cookset with a Trangia knock off meths burner fits inside the cookset , also at least 700mls Very light and compact ., would the Svea with that heat exchanger be faster than the Trangia ? Might be a cool little experiment? I do have a knock off Jet boil and its super fast , lives in my work vehicle.

You can wrap some carbon felt around that base. That will suck up the fuel and avoid spillage.

I like the look of that very much. How does the boil time compare to a jet boil? Although, I'd be happy to avoid using gas. Best wishes Al

Just watching the vid after a 12hr shift at work, with a bit of beer and some Dire Straits streaming on the telly. Absolutely love it. What I love the most about these stoves is how they sound like a jet about to taxi as they warm up. That roar... As a kid in scouts, we always used Coleman 442s. Nice one mate.

My father had one for horse trekking for many years, stopped going and possibly the generator was faulty, il get it out for you to have a play with
