Mike's Mink Coat Transformed into a Throw and Two Pillows
Просмотров 63Месяц назад
What a great project. Mike's coat belonged to his Aunt. He wanted a new lining, but we used the old lining on the pillows and used the monogram on the throw. The monogram was placed in the upper right corner of the backing. This coat's hood was so large I was able to make the throw 54 by 70 inches and even had enough to make two 18 inch pillows! I have a couple of coats that I do not wear but cant bear to let go of, your videos are the exact type of instruction I was looking for. Thank you so much and please continue making excellent quality goods from beautiful materials. All the best. x

    I clean musk scents out of my fur with 100 proof alcohol. I dilute the alcohol with 20 percent water, I mist the lining let it dry and then I do the outside. I mist until the scent is gone. It can take a few times. I allow to dry before I go in again. I focus on places sweat accumulates such the behind the neck and under the arms. Then you could put it with coffee or unstoppable just to give it a nice scent But to be honest the alcohol by itself works great. Some people use vodka. I find that vodka helps to bring the musk scent to the surface followed by the high proof alcohol that eliminates the odour causing bacteria and evaporates the moisture. I try my best not to soak the actual leather.

    This was my first time working with Dinah! I have nothing but wonderful things to say about her craftwomanship! All I had to do was send her the three faux blankets to try and ended up that the best match was the first one she suggested anyway! I completely trusted her judgement on matching the stripe pattern and choosing the backing. She is such an artisan and professional. If I ever find a good deal again on a forlorn fur that needs a new job keeping us snuggly while watching TV, it will go straight to Dinah. Since let’s face it, most of us just don’t wear furs every day and there are so many furs out there that are out of date or we’d just never dream of wearing. Recycling / repurposing a fur just seems to make more sense to me than buying a new one or just letting an old one go unused. So happy to have found you, Dinah!

    Thank you again Dinah! The video is great. The blanket is so much prettier in person. My Mom's coat was just hanging in the closet, no longer with a purpose, but yet such a value. The original cost and the little minks that were sacrificed to make it. It is wonderful to have it as a beautiful blanket or throw, repurposed with a better purpose. Nothing is wasted.

    Wow that really turned out beautiful... I have only recently learned about the animal Racoon-dog or Tanuki after realizing that three of my own jackets were not actually real racoons, but they are from the Racoon-dog animal... A very interesting unique animal. I have a large, long vintage mink coat .... I guess I could do what you have done with it, but I don't have a fur sewing machine so I would have to hand-sew it... I would need to find out where to get those clips that hold the fur in place, also... Years ago I did sew a few fur garments using a regular sewing machine zig-zag stitch, but never had clips and it was very hard to get a perfect result. I am a perfectionist, so I would need to do it right.

    • @dinahsquiltshandmadesoaps7340
      @dinahsquiltshandmadesoaps7340 8 месяцев назад

      I had to add a different bobbin winder washer. I had to make the diameter bigger so I could use both the bobbin winder and the hand crank. I took two washers and cut one in half. Glued the new pieces to the old washer to make up for the additional distance. It's a little rough, but it works!! Hope that makes sense.

    • @dinahsquiltshandmadesoaps7340
      @dinahsquiltshandmadesoaps7340 9 месяцев назад

      Cold tape is a satin like material with an adhesive on the back. No heat needed to adhere to the fur. Cut and pull off the protective backing. It's a tight tack. It helps support the edges of the fur while stitching through it. I use 100% furrier cotton thread. All can be purchased at: www.samuelbauer.com. Call them if you are interested in furrier items.
