Mona Lavender: A GREAT Houseplant
I'm picky when it comes to houseplants. I don't do aphids or other insects. I want plants that can take a variety of light exposures and tolerate a cool, to cold, 40-50 degree room at night. I like to take cutting to propagate plants. Mona Lavender does all this, and more! It has beautiful leaves, is very easy to grow, hard to kill and it blooms. I have sold the plants starts at my Farmstand. My customers come back and exclaim, "The plant I bought from you is HUGE!" To make sure I fully understand, they raise their arms and demonstrate just how big it is. Mona Lavender is also good as an annual for summer.

Bring hundreds of birds to your garden! A Bird Bath for the BIRDS!
Просмотров 1762 года назад
I love all the wonderful birds that frequent my suburban garden in the spring and summer. I have tried for years to have a water system/bird bath for them, but alas, no birds ever came. I tried putting a rock in the bird bath. No birds. I tried multiple rocks, different sized rocks. Nothing. Then, one day, I noticed birds were coming to a plant saucer I had left on the ground that had some rain...
Help for growing tomatoes in a COLD climate!

If you live where temps drop below freezing in May and again in September, this video will greatly increase your success in growing tomatoes. Not only does the tomato plant want to be warm, but the roots want to be warm as well. Here are two great ideas, tried and true, to give those plants a boost in warmth. Get Kale off to a great start! Thwart those hungry insects!!!
Просмотров 272 года назад
Kale is one of the most nutritious veggies on the planet! While it is super hardy once established, it is tricky getting it going. Insects seem to know it is the most nutritious thing for them as well! I was VERY frustrated trying to grow Kale. I found the most helpful info while visiting with an Amish man on Amtrak. Get these helpful hints and save yourself some grief! Best-selling books by Ju...
Liven up the dinner table with edible flowers from your garden!
Просмотров 453 года назад
When people gaze out over their lovely flower beds, they think of bouquets, sweet fragrance and beauty as they walk through their yards. Rarely do people think, "What's for dinner? Flowers!" Yet, perennial and annual flowers bring a delightful mix of taste, texture, color and nutrition to the table. When I do mixed lettuce bags for my Farmstand, then add a variety of flowers, people go wild. I ...
Saving Seeds: For Fun, Profit and Posterity!
Просмотров 693 года назад
A number of years ago, our local master gardeners asked me to speak at their monthly meeting. I inquired, "Is there a particular topic you would like me to speak on?" The coordinator told me there was lots of interest in saving seeds. People wanted to know how that was done and we’re having a hard time getting information. It is really fun! Every plant is different: some have large seeds, easy ...
Quick, easy, CLEAN, and very effective way to plant lettuce!
Просмотров 693 года назад
Lettuce is a super easy veggie to grow. Although it looks rather delicate, lettuce is super hardy. I plant early in the spring and it has tolerated snow storms, freezing nights and can take a good amount of shade. I personally like to use a lettuce mix to get a fun variety of taste, color and texture. Or you may want to create your own mix with lettuce favorites or just use one variety. The met...
Keep those heat loving plants warm at night with PASSIVE SOLAR!
Просмотров 2873 года назад
One of the biggest challenges here in the West is nighttime temps that drop to near or below freezing, even in June! The daytime temps can be warm, in the 70’s, but with the dry air, the temperature at night can plummet, destroying in no time all your hard work on your tender veggies! I have found one of the easiest ways to increase the temperature at night, with no effort at all, is to use pas...
Make a WATER HARVESTING system for your garden with a garbage can! Quick, easy and CHEAP!

This video will show you how to convert any type of garbage can into a water collection device. This...
A Garden for Miss Mouse

In 2012 Marti arrived at my front door and handed me a book she had found. Marti said, “You need this more than I do. It describes your life.” I looked at the cover of the children’s book, The Garden of Miss Mouse, and said, “Great, I have my twin grandsons here and I will read that to them for their bed time story tonight.” By the time we were half way through the book, Jason, Trenton and I we...
Passive Compost: Leaves, weeds, grass clippings and yard waste! SAVE the landfills and create SOIL!
Просмотров 7134 года назад
For lack of a better word, I use “passive” composting to describe this method. It really is passive, as I make a huge pile of organic yard waste, do nothing and ignore it, for years! I begin with a section of yard, no bigger than 6 feet by 6 feet. I lay down cardboard, (see my cardboard videos) then begin pilling any yard waste on top. I do this throughout the year. This includes dead heading f...

Making a COMPOST BIN from a GARBAGE CAN: Quick, easy and CHEAP!

Ads abound for compost bins declaring compost in 2 weeks! The bins are expensive, rather complicated and do not deliver what they promise. The more expensive they are, the less effective they are! Compost is a natural process which occurs whether we are involved or not. Having your own bin allows you to utilize many household ingredients and yard waste that would otherwise go to the landfill. You are the only video that I found that explains the roots growing on the side of the stem (aventious). You are correct to lay down the stem under the soil. One should ALWAYS plant up as high as possible to encourage more roots on cosmos. This make the cosmos stronger. This plant has a root system similar to tomatoes. THANKS!!!

I planted seeds I bought. I've never had this plant before. I'm in SW Florida zone 10a. Most of them didn't come up. I have 5 trying so hard to grow. I had to put a huge plastic ziplock around them because in the shade they just wilt as if they hate the heat. In their makeshift terrarium they seem happy but so slow. I planted marigold seeds at the same time. The marigolds are getting their 1st flowers. The geraniums finally have 5 tiny leaves. Am I doing something wrong? You give me hope that if I can get them to thrive then I'll have them for decades to come. If these babies make it then I'll propagate them instead of bought seeds.

I was worried the JAVALINA'S, might get the bulbs, even though I read animals don't like them. Have you had any problems with the Javalina's in your plants? That is too funny! I'm up in Sedona! It's rare to find a video with anyone from our areas! Thanks, this was exactly what I was looking forward too! Looking forward to my blooms. I plan on forcing mine inside, was waiting for this snow alert to pass before planting outside, plus I thought if they were shooting up, animals wouldn't be as likely to get them. I will subscribe to you channel & like. :) ☺
