Five Watt World: The Gibson Acoustics Intro/Outro Music
do you have different strings on your guitar? sounds much warmer than the one i played with the factory 80/20 elixir on it
Personally I'd like an acoustic, electric, bass and another electric for lower tunings/baritone, so 4 total. Really fighting the urge to buy/build another electric so here I am for mental reinforcement lol
Instant Tom Scholz and/or Brian May. :)
😊
bass, full
1. awssome
I picked the Gibson on Mic and the Yamaha on Pickup.
I was just about to pull the trigger on one of these and this video really helped .Thank you. Great video and really thorough.cheers.
Good luck on your journey! Personally I'm headed in the opposite direction as you. I'd like more space to turn up loud amps, maybe a larger rehearsal space with a bar and a dedicated recording setup. I've been a minimalist for most of my life and played just a single Strat for years. This is basically sufficient and there is an elegance to it, but I don't think we should mute our ambitions. Additionally, while we can get lost in arbitrary materialism sometimes, switching between a couple different guitars can help us find our most authentic self and dig to the core of who we are. Maybe that is a question to spend time on: To what extent are stylistic and minor technical differences superficial and to what extent does it represent valid self expression?
I had good headphones on. The Gibson was better with the mic but the Yamaha was a close second. Plugged I was really impressed with the stone.
I did not hear a Thousand dollar difference. I went with the 5 - Bone nut, saddle, and made in Japan. But, it was the Hardcase that got me to spring for the extra 200 bucks. I Love this guitar, and have no plans to sell. Thanks for the video!
I bought a FS5 concert size a few months ago and it is an incredible guitar. Its tone, playability and build quality is at a very high level. It’s a keeper and I’ll never let it go.
A - Elixir, B - D’addario 100% 😎
Yamaha all the way
its been hard for me to use anything else after switching to the Daddario XS. Used to be a huge fan of NYXLs but the XS just took the cake....for me.
Great video, man! For me, I play guitar in a band (Say or Do) and we mainly tune to Drop D, so there's one guitar there. Our singer/rhythm guitarist always brings a backup to live shows, so in the event either of us have a guitar failure, we can grab the backup and get back to playing. At home when I'm working on my own project, I need a bit more. In Sleepy Drifter, I predominantly use three tunings: Drop D, Drop B and Drop G# (I'll sometimes tune the low string up to A# and play in A# Standard for some stuff). All of them are 6 string guitars. I use my Squier baritone Tele (the green soapbar one) for Drop B, a PRS SE 277 for the G# and A# stuff, and I'm looking into a PRS SE Hollowbody Standard Piezo for my Drop D guitar, since my band also uses acoustic guitars in the studio quite often. I'm also using a Squier Bass VI in Drop D and a Spector Performer 5 string bass in B Standard, but will go down to A# Standard or Drop G# to play that material. So yeah, the plan is lock in four guitars and two basses. I really don't need anything else.
After pulling the stuff out of the gear bag, I wish you had shown the inside of the bag (for us dreamers).
Thank you man! this is very helpful.
In my opinion, you need, at an absolute minimum: - a single coil guitar - a humbucker guitar - an acoustic If you go the super-strat route, you could reduce this down to two guitars if the electric has an HSS configuration. Or maybe one guitar with a Fender Acoustasonic...
Do they last longer than Elixir? Every time I've tried coated strings I've always frayed the coating off where i pick in the first few days. Love the idea of them but they never worked for me. Wondering if these are better
Simple: Use coated strings for guitars that don’t get played much and are primarily in storage (like collector guitars). Use uncoated strings for guitars you regularly maintain and play frequently-your main guitars. Bam. Easy. Know the use. I have a guitar that sits unused for years and only comes out on special occasions. The coated strings on it are still fine and will last for years more. On the other hand, my main guitar gets uncoated strings, which I change every few weeks. It sounds better every time because the strings aren’t muted by a coating. It’s a perfect balance: coated strings are great for long-term storage and save time and money in the long run. Uncoated strings deliver maximum tone but require regular changes to maintain that sound. Both have their place-just match the strings to the purpose.
Wonderful composition and great demonstration of the guitar
I have a T5. any chance of you sharing your patch?
i dont like mine. mostly brcause of the jumbo frets, after that its the fact that it has so much high end bite. ive considered installing a tone control, but ill just adjust the amp. i would sell mine in a heartbeat.
Two things, 1. you’ll shed fewer tears when the Yamaha suffers the damage that inevitably happens, 2. you’ll be unpacking a unique guitar, everybody has a boutique guitar these days, the Yamaha seems to be a work instrument, makes you a serious guy.
Hahaha, I thought I really liked number 1 micced then number 2 with pickups- and was torn between what I would rather!
Amen. Have a few “things to do” when picking up the guitar to make sure things don’t get dull- learning new songs, playing other songs you’re currently hyped on, having a course/curriculum to work on in chunks, and having backing tracks to jam to, that’s what I’m doing now. Hours go by, and I can’t wait to get back to it!!
Recently sold 10 of my guitars leaving me with 2. I ended up keeping a black ESP Eclipse from 2001 and a snow white ESP Horizon-III. It feels good not to have to think about taking care of 10 other guitars sitting around and having to maintain them when I played them so infrequently.
With the Mic test, the Yamaha out-sounded them all , but the Stonebridge pickup was so good- The Gibson is at the bottom for both tests 😬
Love my 339
13:36 "So although I'm not going to be running out to pick one of these up any time soon" lol That kind of undermines all of the positive things you said about it, no?
I think 2/3 max. If you find yourself playing “one” more than the other then you only need one but have a backup guitar. Also if it doesn’t make you money then don’t buy it! If you gig consistently then buy a good guitar! If not don’t waste money on something that’s gonna sit!
A is Elixer
I'd recommend a capo that stays on the guitar. It has a knob you can turn to adjust the tightness, and you can just keep about the nut so you never lose it.
I liked all 3 as well. Thanks for your review. The Yamaha sounds like an outstanding bargain. Thanks.
Right now I have 3 instruments at home. One electric guitar, one acoustic and a electric bass. I also have my first two electric guitars at my parents home, so I can play them whenever I visit them and one electric beater guitar at the rehearsal room. And tbh I thought I own too many instruments. Only one of these guitars is over 1k, all others were sub 500 new. If I want some flavour I own way too many guitar speakers, I think I have around 9 different types right now (at one point I had something like 14 at my home).
Out of the three the J45 sounds pretty weak on pickups. A $600 Yamaha sounds better plugged in.
For me anything more than one guitar and one amplifier becomes complicated so it is usefull if you SHOW how the devices are connected instead of talking about it. Most RUclipsrs make this mistake where they talk too much. It is not pragmatic.
I have had this guitar hanging on the wall for years. I recently rediscovered it and am loving it.

I have also played one. It has an incredible sound. I was looking for an old Yamaha but I might have to have one of these. I also like the 1.75 nut width. I didn't try the electronics.
I played one of these in my local store. I could feel the top moving while I played. If felt like magic happening.
I bought the FGX5 about a year ago. Best value guitar I have ever played.
way back in the 1980's it was really tough to get an electric acoustic guitar to sound like a good acoustic guitar. The Yamahas sounded really good even as good as my expensive Takamine. If I were buying right now I probably would pass on the guitar you're reviewing and get a LL16RDL.......but I would be looking at Yamaha as my first choice to play live.
Hey! What's your kit rn? How that minimalist thing went? I got 6 guitars at my apartment 3 of which I don't "need" or like too much. But something stops me from getting rid of them. And I'm no musician just a casual enjoyer
Great video and seems like a great guitar. Thanks for the review!
Great! I would like to slow down the video... But I'll stop and copy.
Damn, the Yamaha was my favorite both ways in the blind test
There's a lot of wisdom in saying you have to be smarter than the device! I apparently am not. I bought this about 2 yrs ago and still can't figure it out. Need a hour long tutorial on how to master this thing. If you're looking for simplicity, the cost of it is probably excessive.
