Just loops Harlem Thive 10m
Today I was out with the 10m #Harlemkites #Thrive. What an amazing kite :)
I´ve done loops ranging from 4,5m to 9m and you can see this kite catches like a charm.

It´s been some funky wind days. We´ve been in the Fjord and it´s always gusty here. The wind also was quite up and down all the time. You couldn´t feel the wind, it´s been a riddle each jump: How high does it go? Sufficient for loops? Then you are 10m up ... but can´t find the courage to loop. Anyways it´s been good in both Spots, Kragesand and Egeskov. The angle was worth a try, but is not ver...

Holy , this was pure survival mode. I´ve been out on my 7m #Harlemkites #Force. The wind was up and down ... and moved it all around xD Jokes aside it was brutal, just brutal. Niels was out with his Cabrinha Nitro v2 and Lennie with a Core Pace Pro. It took me a lot of time to get used to both, the wind and my Force. Once I got used some jumps worked out quite well, but could catch the 15m on C...
Improving my kiteloops

Loops look quite relaxed from the outside, but when you are up there and lack the experience, they are scary as hell. There has been a full week of sujnshine and wind. I was hoping to take my 7m for a ride, but the wind was too low. So the 9m Orbit was at it again. My mission right now is to expand my looping confidence. 5-6m is the area I fell good at. In the past at 7m I couldn´t stick most o...

Spring is here! The sun was shining, not a single could in sight and 25 knots in the forecast. Well, it turned out to be around 20 knots with 23ish gusts :) But it was so refreshing to be able to go for some loops again. This time with my Insta OneX2. Honestly, I really like the footage, but I will have to double check on what I can do regarding the droplets on the lense. OR maybe upgrade to an...

During our two week stay in Langebaan, stronger wind days have been rare. Nevertheless we managed to squeeze in a session or three at capetown or rather Blouberg/Mystic House/Dolphin beach. It was rather low wind day, yet quite busy on the water. Managed to find at least two "kiteloops" if you want to call them that. I wished the wind would´ve been stronger in the 2nd half of january, but hey. ...

14 days in Langebaan. No more, no less. It´s been a blast. Letting go of the winter blues, entering the summer vibes of south africa we tried to grab every kite session we could. A lot of days where spend locally in Shark Bay and Langebaans main beach. It´s relaxing, it´s smooth, it´s easy. Chill or go for some light kiting. It´s your choice :)

This place looks sick!
It is awesome.
water looks so shallow, how deep is it there?
the water is very clear which gives the impression. There is also some greens in the water flattening out the surface. Its ranging from knee to waistdeep.
Great video, great loops and a beautiful spot. Where is that location, if I may ask? Somewhere at the Baltic Sea, I suppose?
It is the baltic sea. It´s on the danish side of the Flensburg Fjord at a place called Egeskov.
Can you compare this kite to Reedin HTF 2?
I have not ridden the HTF2 once, so I wont be able to provide any detailed information. I´ve tested the Hypermodel in 9m once. I would say the 10m is faster and handles gusts better.
Hello, Nice clip! I am also using X4 on my helmet to film and i see that there is fog on you video. It happened to me once with totally unusable footage. Do you know why it happened ? Insta360 couldn’t explain when I reported it…
Thank you. I´m using the premium lense protection. Due to the funky jump I landed in the water and water pushed itself between the lense and the premium protection. it drippled out slowly and some got evaporated due to the head coming from the camera. So this is no serious issue but related to the lense protection :)
Ok thanks for you answer.
With my orbit pro 8m in 40+ knots at 9psi its change shape when jumping, you don’t have this problem with the Harlem thrive?
I´m also pumping my 8m Thrive to about 9 PSI. I can see a bit of opening up of the arc when I take off. But for normal use it´s just as you can see in various jumps. In the 10m Thrive loop video are two jumps when a wave of gusts pushed in, but the max is the opening up of the arc. I´ve seen much more of this behaviour from my standard orbit throughout the months of use. So maybe I need more time on the water with the Thrive to give more feedback on that. Sometime, and that goes for Aluula frames too, when you take off in normal wind like 25 knots and a 40+ gust just kicks in you will see a kite deform. But I assume that is totally normal, even if it looks scary. I mean a gust is not alway coming fully from the front but reaching in from one side of the kite.
Awesome, at 1:16 I think you could have gone for a 3rd loop
Haha, yeah, I should´ve gone the other way around for the 2nd loop :)

Nice review and loops! 🙌🏻 I went somewhat similar route and switched from orbits to evo dlabs. Like both models but after trying aluula couldn’t resist getting it
Really useful video. I think you should get the AI Jason Montreal voice next time as it's good content like he produces 😂
@@bondvillansarebest Hahahahaha !
I´d love to see @jasonofmontreal get a Thrive in his hands. Due to his tests and explanations I decided to go for the Orbit to get into loops and I have to admit it was one of the best decisions I´ve made. The Orbit was such a beast for height and catch safety. Now I think this is the next level and I really would love to hear his thoughts on the kite.
Great review! How would you compare low end vs orbit?
Orbit has no low end, so there is no comparission :)
Hahah let me rephrase, how would you compare the wind ranges? Size down with the thrive or similar?
I´m very surprised by the range the Thrive provides. I´m using the 10 realistically from about 14 Knots with a 145 Kold Shapes Polar II. Thats driving from left to right and keeping my level. I´ve used the 10 today in 25 knots gusts up to 40 without any problems. No de-power. For a 9m Orbit I would start using it from 18 knots on with the same board and used it up towards 35ish wind. But I would gradually de-power it. I havent felt that with the Thrive so far and would assume 35 knots are doable on the 10. For size comparision ... 10m Thrive ist faster than the 9 Orbit. Maybe an 11 Thrive would match a 9 Orbit, when going for loops. Powerwise I would say the 8m Thrive is more matching the lower end of the 9m Orbit.
Thanks for the detailed answer! sounds pretty sick. Will try one if I ever get the chance!
Thank you!
Thank you for this good review ! I have some questions: you seem to use the 8m with 23 knots wind and more. In what condition do you use the 10m ? I currently have a 12-9-7m quiver but I have some doubt about the 7m Thrive. I fear it will be too fast. On the other hand riding an 8m in 35+ knots requires maybe very good skills. What is your take on the Thrive sizes ? Is it really confortable and safe to ride an 8m in 35 knots (like I do with my 7m ?). Thanks for your feedback!
So I´ve been using the 10 from 10 Knots until 30ish knots without any issues. Today we had some 35 gusts and the 10 was fine. The range on the kites is ... magnificent. Honestly giving advice on kite sizes is a tricky game. If you are experienced enough in either low or high winds your riding and requirements will change significantly. Lets say you´ve been out on 15m Kites for quite some time, pushing foiling to 5-6 knots and learning on how to safe a front and back stalling kite in this wind. With this knowledge you will use a 12 or 9 or even 7 completely different when riding them in super low conditions (for the respective size). Same goes for when you´ve ridden your kites in super strong winds. So please take the following with a grain of salt. Make kite sizes dependant on your kite requirements. You want to go out in lower 10ish knot winds? 10-17 knots, drive from left to right, do some front and backrolls? A 12 is too low for that? get a 15m Thrive. I´m sure you´ll love it. If you want to spend less, take a look at the KauperXT Nerio in 15m, that is one awesome kite. You want to push your jumps from 20 knots on? get a 12 and a 9 maybe. 12 is too slow for you? get an 11 or 10 and make the 9 an 8 or 7. You want to push your loops from 17 knots on? Get a 10, it loops like charm. I´ll be posting a video later on that. For the 35 knot basewind with 45+ gusts: I was super surprised myself. I´ve ridden 7m Supermodels and my 9m Orbit in wind like this and I was afraid. The kites pulled strong on me and forced me to "handle" them. The Thrive ... was just easy. It was only easy. I had not to de-power it, when I would´ve ridden my Orbit at 4-5cm already. I don´t know why that is. If you get the chance to test a Thrive in conditions like that, do it. Find it out yourself.
@@Alexomator Thank you so much for your detailed answer ! Maybe the 13-10-8 could be a good option. Keep going with your great work and awesome video like this one !
Hey! Most importantly, how does it compare to the evo d/lab? since that's the origin of the kite And also, how is the thrive a non aluula model lighter then evo alulla?
Yes, I'm also interested in this comparison !
Of course the thrive is not lighter then a evo d lab. I heard from some guys that this thrive is like the evo sls. Just check the shape. There you see 😊
I´ve only ridden the Evo Dlab in 10m once. If you have it, you might know the typical evo characteristics. One, that I really really hated was that when I wanted to unspin the bar, it kept spinning because when at the end of the de-power range the backlines were without any pull. The Thrive doesnt have that. I would say the Thrive is more forgiving than the Dlab. The Dlab requires absolut on point focus and a super clean takeoff to get you going. I remember missing this point would take most out of the fun on the Dlab. But that may be due to my little time on it. What I can surely say is, the Thrive loops way better. While the Dlab in tight turns will put its turning point inside the kite (in german we say "tellern" and I don´t know an english word for that), the Thrive does not show this characteristic. I cannot say anything about a 2nd loop, because i haven´t jumped any doubles so far :) But you can see continuous loops on the Thrive and delayed on the Dlab. If you watch footage from one year ago, you can see the reason Andrea has to delay the 2nd loop.
@@chrisduc1 Sad story, it is lighter. Not by much but on the 10 it´s 2.485 to 2.45 in favor of the Thrive. I wouldn´t say that this difference does give it an edge, I would say it shows that they are in one category. It is definately not the SLS shape, I´ve put two 8s Evo SLS and my Thrive into each other and on each other. There are differences, mostly in the tips and trailing edge.
Looks like Thrive costs about same as Evo SLS, but with 7-8 weeks waiting time now as their page says.
Hey! Nice video! :) Is this an AI voice? Also, have you sold your 15m Nerio? What will you be using for low winds now?
Yes this is an AI voice. I was cutting the footage all day long, writing down a script and when midnight came in yesterday, I wasn´t in the mood to read the text out loud. I have sold my 15m Nerio and for low winds I do use a bench or a chair together with a beer :) The 10m Thrive is my biggest kite right now. But I´m making up my mind if I want something above that.
Is the thrive better than the orbit 2024 ? for someone is doing he's first baby loops at 2/3m high
Baby or microloops are done 50cm-1m above the water. 2/3m is not good for your knees :) The Orbit is a very good kite. I personally feel better using the Thrive.
@@Alexomatorthanks, are you using a go pro 360?
@@ozii560 Insta360 One X4
Orbit is good enough to learn loops and will catch at 2-3 meter with the right technique, you don't need a new kite for that 😊
Really good video!
Thank you mate!
Thanks for your video. Maybe you could make a video with your feedback about the Thrive and your feeling on the 8 and 10m. Many people would be interested !
Since the release of the Thrive I only had three sessions with the 10 so far due to the lack of wind. This changed three days ago and I´ve been hitting the water non-stop in the past three days. It took me two days to get dialed in on the 8 but yesterday I managed to up my PB 4 times. Amazing kite, just amazing. I´ll start working on the video and I´m sure it will be out latest tomorrow.
@@Alexomator Thank you very much for this very interesting review of the 8m !
hey, did you just put the line divider for the high V on the lines or did you put somehting over them? cheers, domi
I haven´t received my lead bar yet so I had to modify my Dreamstick. I checked my storage and still have some LFK Mission Control Bars v3, I took one of their splitters and placed them about 4,5m from the start of the lines. Works like a charm.
Is it better than Orbit? I am thinking about buying Orbit 10m from 2023 or new Thrive. Am progressing towards loops.
Better in what regard? For loop progression? I would say yes. The orbit is already quite fast und catches well. I myself transitioned over from the 2024 Orbit in 9 towads two Thrives in 8 and 10. While the orbit still had situations where it was scetchy, I could not yet find them with the Thrive. When the Orbit sometimes didnt rise, the Thrive comes back up and catches. I do not know the reason why, it may be the mila struts that keep the form and airflow going or it might be the welding that makes it more reactive. But the result is amazing. It also comes at a higher price. That is something you should consider and maybe a used 2023 Orbit is the better over all solution. I mean, the 2023 Orbit is still a very good kite.
What size are you using ?
Thats the 10m.

How's the 145 polar? Looking at either polar or north trace for a light/mid wind board. Just so I can get on smaller kites earlier. I'm a bit of a fatty though with 95kg :D...
I´m loving it. I´ve been in the same situation and looking for a low wind board having to decide between a Trace and the Polar II. The Polar II ist way more playful. If you can, test them both. You´ll feel that the Polar II is the better board.
It's better if you release the AARDVARK
Nice loops on a very nice spot! Which kite you prefer best the Reedin or the Orbit? I have Reedin HTF at the moment but thinking about switching to Orbits. I also see you using the Reedin bar on the Orbit, does that work properly?
Thanks, it was a good day. For loops I do prefer the Orbit. It is faster than the Supermodel and it catches better. As an allround kite I do miss my Supermodels. From all other allround kites I´ve tried I think they perform the best. But the Orbit is now gone too ... I wonder if I will miss it :) The Dreamstick works like a charm. I really love it due to the low diameter and the Linesmith.eu lines I´ve put on it. I never knew but lines make a huge difference in feeling the kite. With the super snappy linesmith.eu lines the feeling of the orbit changed drastically. When you are lit you can feel the frame of the kite work with microadjustments down in the bar. It does start to vibrate or shake, a very unfamiliar feeling at first glance, but on the second thought it gives you super awesome feedback on whats to come. Normally I´ve been looking for a pull in the hook before the jump to identify if the jump is going to boost me into sufficient heights for loops. If I have to lean back I know its going to be 6-7m and safe for loops. Now if I have the bar vibrating for the first two seconds of the jump I know its double digit. I´m really loving them and can 100% encourage everyone to get good lines.
Looks like the Orbit it either broken, turning/rotating inflationpoint is too loose or not pumped well. Had a similar issue.
Are you am AARDVARK?
I think this was a banger! Love the shore view. You can see the kite and the distance traveled

@@Alexomator Thank you
I see you ride the harlem Force on a low V... does it otherwise make the 7meter too fast(if you ride it on a high V)?
It´s not a big difference from my perspective. I´ver put in a splitter to test it and there wasn´t that much of a change.
Looks good! Planning to do my first Loops this season, but right now still a bit too afraid to pull through when in the air :D . What would you recommend as first loops, maybe low hight, so the kite doesn´t need to catch me?
Micro or baby-loops should be the first step. They are quite easy. You can find super good intros from kitesurf college or others. Follow them closely! Other than that ... micro or baby-loops as mentioned, below 1,5m. Next is jumps into the wind with at least 6m in height. I´m not sponsored by north, but I must admit, the Orbit 2024 is a super boost in both relevant fields: height and speed.
ser godt ud!

It´s noted that it is designed to be used with a Y at about 4,5m to 5m.
Very inspiring! Thank you!
