Lock Picking Paul
Великобритания
Добавлен 26 авг 2009
This channel is something to help chart my progress and explain my slightly bizarre hobby to those that know me and anyone who might find these videos enjoyable and or informative.
I've worked extensively in the Digital Security Industry and this is something of a happy extension to my long term profession
Lock picking for me is a challenge or puzzle to be solved, most physical security attacks are brute force, lock picking is more similar to a practiced art and is generally not a practical way to break security due to the time and skill required. Where I do encounter a design flaw or other weakness then I feel this information should be in the public to domain to improve user awareness, if people keep buying poor quality locks then the manufacturers will keep making them. Security by Obscurity benefits no one.
Stay legal! Don't pick locks that you don't own. Don't pick locks in use, at some point you'll brick a lock trying to get it open, ideally it won't be the one to your house

A few things to say about this video, first off, it's long, very long, this is part of an LPU belt submission and so I can't edit or speed it up, the pick and gut must be a single take, please feel free though to not watch the whole pick 😁, secondly, I have no idea why I didn't alter the camera angle for the gutting, whilst it's in frame it's not exactly centered 🤦♂️ the adrenaline is pumping ...

Great job 👍, Paul Interesting lock 🔐. Pins and your picking very good 👍 Thank you for sharing 👍 Good luck 👍 🤠 ☮️ 🌍 🌎 🌏
Thanks Tipa, good fun challenge locks, I don't know if any of these get to your part of the world but if they do they are worth a try, thanks mate 🍻🍻👍
Thanks for this info - I needed to get into my Dad's van (dead battery and driver's lock barrel and key was badly worn), after getting one of these and about 30 secs of jiggling I was able to get in. Replaced with all new barrels. But *now* it's even easier to get in with this pick as the lock mechanism has no wear (like 1-2 seconds. And yes, I did check I had used the correct barrel for that door by trying to unlock it with a different key) absolutely nuts, I think I'll have to get the old man to institute some additional security 🤣
Yeah, I'd add some aftermarket security for sure, these are too cheap and very available, best of luck
Tinnie is like amagicisn with those pins, an artistic magician! It made you work a bit there for the open but very nicely picked 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
That would be craftsman then 😁😁, I tried to make challenge lock pins, eyes too old, pins too small, injuries too likely 🤣🤣Cheers Roy 🍻🍻
Cool looking pins! I love when people gut CLs to show them. A lot of people don’t do that.
I think if you pick then you earn the right to gut it, that said if the maker has a no-gut rule then I honor it
Thank you very much for those very kind words Paul 🙏🏻 Yeah, Brett has said my locks get harder 😆😂 once they bed in. I think that there's a super spring in 5, if I remember correctly? Cheers and all the best to you and yours mate 👍 🍻 🍻 🍻
It was the sharp lip on Pin 2 that really held me up, everything went completely dead and even though I was barely using any tension it still needed less, a great fun lock mate 👌👌🍻🍻
Hang on lads i've got an idea...... churrs LPP (and Tinnie)
Cheers QT 🍻👍
Thank you for the heads up about the light touch (especially since I am rather heavy handed) 😁 I'm glad you got to enjoy the lock before me, because you are absolutely right about it not going out to general public 😂 after Brett, when it gets to me, it will only go to DPL before it finally settles at my place. Nice picking, and definitely beautiful work done by Tinnie 🫶 cheers 🍻🍻🍻 edit: ps. looking forward to your chip and stickers 😁
Cheers mate 👍 🍻 🍻 🍻 🍻 🍻

I really appreciate you asking I give it a pick first, I'm quite honored, many thanks mate and enjoy the lock 🍻🍻🍻🍻
@@paulg413 I knew it would bring joy to Tinnie, and honoring the tradition between you two by having you have a first pick just adds emotional value to the lock for me. So if I am being entirely honest, my reasons were a bit selfish 😂 I cannot thank you (both of you) enough. Cheers Paul & Tinnie 🍻🍻🍻

Nice one for putting this out Paul. Its not all plain sailing. I was sick of thay second lock by the end, think it was P5 that just wouldn't play ball. Well done on one
Very good effort on a tricky little box 🎉🎉 cheers 🍻
you cant win them all 😁👍🍻
Nice one. Loving this little lock 🎉🎉 cheers 🍻
one for the lever list and cheap too 👍🍻
Excellent stuff and pretty funky like you say. Nice picking 🎉🎉 cheers 🍻
thanks GPR 👍🍻
Awesome, was always tempted to buy one. But somehow thought it will work like that. Awesome done and presented 🎉👍
Thanks Dig, I got a load of these from eBay, all different makes and got them all open in 15 minutes in exactly the same way, some were harder than others, handle size makes a difference to the torque you can apply and newer locks are harder to read but fundamentally the same weakness 👍
Valiant effort sir!! Happy Birthday again, ill be better prepared next year 😁💚🔒
Thanks very much Charles, Happy Birthday to you too 😁😁, cheers mate 🍻🍻
Nice decoding!
Cheers Gazz 👍
10 out of 10 for effort! Thanks for sharing Paul and take care mate.
You can't win 'em all 😁, cheers mate
Nice and quick!
took a bit of practice, that feedback is quite subtle
A very gallant effort sir. This challenge makes it somewhat real because you are not just picking in a vice, you are picking with a clumpy box in hand. now that's a real way of doing it, it's almost like doing it in the wild. 1 out of 2 isn't at all bad.
That box format was super awkward, which does make me think we want to practice on problematic formats if nothing more than for a bit of realism, good fun none the less, I had to go beat up on a few other CL's to make myself feel a little better 😁😁cheers mate🍻

Real life picking, live it ,love it. Cheers and all the best to you and yours 🍻 🍻 🍻 🍻 🍻
Yeah, it's not always click click open 😁, cheers mate 🍻🍻
Nice work there, good background music for the speedup
Thanks KTB, I now know what I was doing wrong, ,,,,,, But I'm saying nothing 😁😁😁😁
Beginning to suspect those cams are linked so you cant open them both unless its in the wrong direction (if you get my drift) a valiant try sir!
That would be a sneaky twist!
The locks are not interconnected. They are two completely separate locks and mechanisms. ✌🏻🌶
I got caught in some pretty good spool ping pong, after a while I could tell I was going round in circles, it's a good CL made all the harder by the box format, cheers QT
So we can safely say it was a good Christmas present then? Would 1.4mm wire not fit in? It's a great comprise between the 1.2mm and the 1.6mm wire. Some people would give up but a little bit of patience pays off. I've found this myself picking some lever locks that just don't seem to want to open and it feels like you're getting nowhere. Cheers LPP.
I think we can Roy and if i need to lock something up I might even use it, It was a tight fit even with 1.2mm wire 🍻
Great work LPP! Your ingenuity never ceases to amaze me, very interesting lock too!
Thanks Pete, that's very kind, I hope you@re keeping well 👍🍻
Nice one mate 👍 Yeah ,they are a lovely lock, mine is the same . Cheers and all the best to you and yours 👍 🍻 🍻
Cheers Tinnie, have a great week mate 👍🍻
Is this old or new video Paul? Confused, any way good timing for GPR
New old stock 😁, I recorded it in march last year but didn't post it as it was during a flurry of videos but it was in a playlist which GPR found a few weeks ago
@paulg413 couldn't remember if I had seen it or not, seem to remember the title screen, lever blindness back then. This work lark is strange 😂
I can't find the info but what diameter lock will it unlock. I lost a tubular key for a safe and the huk set I have works with the 7.8 mm but I had to make my own indexing pin and it's a bitch to unlock each time cuz it does not keep the set
I can't find that information either, so i measured it, the inner diameter is ~8mm outer diameter ~9.5mm
@@paulg413 sounds close enough. The 7.8 from HUK is 7.8mm inside and 9.5mm outside. Thanks a lot!
So thats why they are on so many lockies sheds ;-) Churrs LPP!
I'd use it for sure, cheers QT 🍻🍻
Excellent demonstration both of the lock and skill. I should really try attacking some lever locks. I have a little bank with a lever lock that might be a perfect start. Cheers, Paul 🍻
Thank you, a world of fun with these, you end up making a LOT of different tools but in the main they're a little bit of puzzle solving and not too hard
Nice lifting! Thanks for sharing Paul and take care mate.
Cheers Gazz 🍻🍻
Awesome job. Congratulations on black belt!🎉🎉 Where did you find that lock? It looks fun. I will have to keep an eye out for one.
Thank you Chuck, it took me long enough 🤣, this was an eBay find, they're not rare so a search rule will probably get you one in not too long a timeframe, great to see you pop back up btw, hope you're keeping well 🍻🍻👍👍

the technique is no different from either side of the lock, the bolt will be in a different position though and they will be different for all locks, keep trying and you will find it
@paulg413 سوف أحول مره آخرة وأعود لك
Surprising it's not a difficult pick with those pins. Suspect it is a difficult pick but you are tuned in to his work. Nice one Paul and Tinnie 😊
I think you'd really like it, I'll be interested to see how others get on with it, it's certainly tuned a particular way and I think picking styles might affect how people get on with it but overall it's probably not too hard, just very enjoyable 👌👌🍻🍻
Awesome pin work! Congratz on the open Paul and thanks for sharing mate.
Thanks Gazz, have a great weekend mate 🍻🍻
@@paulg413 You too!
Nicely opened. yes it really does make you work with the tension wrench for the open. This lock is just as much about the tension wrench as it is picking it. lovely pins and a lot of work went into it... we are not surprised. Well the Carlsburg Kid should be proud of his lock. i thought at first he had called it that from the sci fi series Firefly, but clearly I was wrong. Great picking and great lock..... and again we are not surprised with either 😉
Thanks Roy, spot on about tension, gently does it 😁😁the pins are little bits of sculpture, cheers mate 👍👍🍻🍻

"like picking with a broom handle" HAHAHAHa omg that cracked me up... And now I know why I haven't had much luck! Clearly I need a new broom handle with better finishing! Love your vids, thanks again, and for such a great quote lol
Thanks Kase, these 410s are tricky, they look easy on video but they one of the best locks for telling your progression, worth spending a lot of time on them, though probably not with these tools 🤣🤣cheers mate🍻🍻
Depth Micrometer Picking Tool. Awesome.
That bag is awesome! I have a couple newer style money bags with the locking zipper. Great open!
Thanks KB, it was a great find for sure 🍻
I can not do the single pin method. I need a rake. I'm a complete beginner, but I don't understand how using the single or one by one method. I can't understand how they would stay up or in a position like with a rake and tension wrench.
If you are already using a rake to open locks then you have answered one of your own questions, how do the pins stay up?... this is because the tension wrench creates something calling binding with the pins, with practice you'll find the right balance of tension (use less if you can) that will allow you to move each pin individually, you find the 1 pin that is stiff and push it gently until it clicks then find the next pin and so on, eventually the lock will open. Initially you wont know what the pins feel like, it all feels the same but if you keep at it you'll be able to determine whats a pin and what is 'binding', it WILL take time but after a few weeks you'll be amazed at how you progress. Best thing to do is to join one of the locksport community forums on Facebook or Discord, great places to ask questions and get help from people, its a super friendly community and as long as you still to the rules, (no locks in use or that aren't yours) you'll do fine.
@paulg413 Yes, I watched a video on YT to demonstrate how it's done. I ordered a kit with fourteen rakes, picks, diamond heads, etc. It also came with two tension wrenches. After about thirty or forty minutes I was able to do it with three of the rakes or picks. I have a padlock which I believe may be old that I think my father gave me for one of my tool boxes. It is called 'Protouch' and I was completely unsuccessful with this padlock. I could feel the pins, but I just got nowhere with it. I noticed it had two peculiar offset holes below the place where one would put the key. Then I tried another lock which isn't like a pad lock and was also unsuccessful. Realizing this is going to take some serious practice and research, I've been watching videos. The yesterday my neighbor across the hall broke his key off in the lock, then for some weird reason went to the supermarket and came back with steaks and meat. Hearing him out there I figured he wanted the key out and I knew I had that pick, but he believed he could turn the mechanism with a knife or screwdriver and he would get in. He's really not that bright and he wanted me to try, but I told him I am in no way any good at this as I just got the kit and even tried my door the first day when I learned how to use the 3 and gave up quickly. I was going to drill into it so we could keep the outer part from twisting everytime he tried to twist it. Eventually I just put his food in my freezer, gave him a chair and he had to pay a locksmith $200 to come by. I wish I got to see him in action, but he just had a bag with a drill and pro tools and he was done quickly and was ready to leave. I wanted to see him do one of our doors with my set to see if it was even doable with non pro tools, but he was done before I got to ask him. I have no interest in opening things that don't belong to me, but it would of been nice to help my neighbor, but it was way beyond my skill level. Thanks for the advice though. I'll keep wrestling with this ProTouch lock and see what happens. One person in a forum did say that a certain master lock has made new revisions that make it much more difficult for an amateur who is just doing it as a hobby or challenge.
Just bought this tool from Sparrow, looking forward to picking dimple locks without cheating
You'll have to make a picking tip for it but that's not too hard from an ejector pin, got a longer video on it here which might be helpful ruclips.net/video/8mGe2RjRy8A/видео.html
