@@hopeitgrows2892 hey, oh definitely. Shetland is a good few degrees cooler in the summer, but the light is brighter and longer. The summer nights are light all night - my brassicas thrived in Shetland! Highlands does get the odd heatwave which Shetland doesn't get so it felt really warm when I first moved down. My best garden was in Shetland though, I think it's because I grew on an old sheep field - the soil was so fertile. The potatoes were amazing! 😁

@@hopeitgrows2892 no sadly, it was a rubbish summer. I think if it was a nicer summer then they would have grown ok . They started to form but were just tiny 🥲

@@Sarah-q4v8s aw too kind, thank you! I do work hard on my garden, choosing plants that survive our winters and flower in our summers. It's all good fun designing a garden that thrives in the Scottish Highlands 🙂 I had a garden in shetland too and that was even more fun to plan!

Thank you 🙂 summers can vary here, 2022 and 2023 we had 26-27°c and I grew outdoor tomatoes successfully. But then last summer was awful, it was 13°c and raining most of July which I found hard. But when it gets hot it's paradise 😊 Definitely depends what kind of fruit you want to grow, anything exotic and its a struggle but apples, pears, blueberries, etc the normal stuff grows ok. You might like the wild blaeberries we find in the forests , they are so sweet. My favorite fruit and unaffected by the weather fortunately. Best of luck if you decide to move, always need more plant nurseries 🫠

Might not be the place for you we get on average 150 days a year when it rains. Sometimes you get months of sunshine in the summer. Others cold and wet but uts a beautiful place. Come and spend the summer in Scotland first before you decide , but land is cheaper

Yes last Summer I was checking the Scottish forecasts everyday, and thinking I would struggle if every year was like that, but it sounds like it was a bad year. I do like growing the exotic fruits, but don't mind growing them under glass, and growing easier things outside. Thanks for the info. 🙌🌿

@markfalconer8284 Thanks! Tbf I actually like the rain/snow, it's more just cold and grey. I'm hopefully visiting again this Summer, and also checking the forecasts there on a regular basis.
