I think you may find that the reason the wax appears to be pulling towards the wick is because as it cools the wax is naturally shrinking back to its normal density and leaving behind the wax that has already cooled on the wick.

However using aluminium carries its own dangers - using heavy metals - so i have ditched my aluminium as there are health hazards with aluminium. But if it works for you - great. Its all about trial and error isnt it.

Hello mate, thanks for the video and information share. Can I ask why you pour at 165, the recommended pour tempos 175. The reason I’m asking is that I’m new to candle making and I’m struggling with hot throw. They smell great when unlit but nothing on burning. I’m in the UK and don’t have access to most of the waxes and tools that you have access to. I can’t even get an EZ wick tool, candlescience won’t post to the uk and the only place that will is a seller on Etsy who wants 86 pounds for the tool and 113 pounds for postage!! She can do one, that’s what you call taking advantage of a situation.

Can I use this method to fix the wet spots? I’m no expert but I believe my problem is my jars are cooling too fast at room temp? My jars are antique glass milk bottles

The purpose of using the foil should been mentioned from the start. Like im wondering the whole time and just figure out i guess to control the temp. To avoid wet spots, no bubbles etc

Hi, was wondering what would happen after curing is done and you ship it to the customer? Wouldn't it actually be affected by the temperature rise/drop and eventually get wetspots again?

  • @kronikpayne5654

Thank you so much for this. So, I’ve been using soy wax chips from ProCandleSupply, their heating temp to add fragrance is 185, they suggest pouring at 135, but ALSO say the wax should be cloudy, which I’ve found doesn’t happen until it cools to around 100 degrees. I add color to most of my candles, and if I pour at higher temps, I get rough texture throughout, sinkholes, and all kinds of issues. Any advice?

Cotton balls and tin foil be damned, just wipe the carbon off the wicks with a paper towel. Works every time

Just wanted to say thank you! Using foil around the candles totally works - it keeps them from cooling off too quickly and thus forming sinkholes near the wick. I will also add this idea: be sure to use the shiny side of the tin foil against the surface of the candle. This will do an even better job of maintaining the candle's warmth for a longer period of time. You may have already mentioned this, but if you did, I missed it. :) I'm also glad that you mentioned the proper temperatures for adding the fragrance oil and for pouring - that's helpful for newbies, too, because it makes a big difference. Anyway, thanks again!

I can't imagine how much foil you would go through to continue to do that. I have a hot plate I keep on super low to just to hold a warm temp and I place my candles on there. Maybe it's the wax I use but I can pour them into a cold jar and they are just fine. No tunneling, no sink holes. I wonder why that is....because keeping vessels warm is a very important part of candle making. This is a great idea for anyone having problems I suppose. But just more cost in materials.
