I saw this on Iron Pineapple’s (2nd) latest video! I gotta say the game looks phenomenal and everything about it feels familiar to the inspirations yet distinct enough that it still feels like its own unique experience and the level design looked amazing!
That repeating sound (first at 0:11) triggered my PTSD, as it reminded me of the intro to Fear and Hunger (Eastern Wind).
oops
I doubt i'll ever forget the vibe she gives off. Her love for the Grand Ruler is likely the strongest/only scrap of her old self she has left. Predictably, he became the only thing keeping her from fully embracing the abyss. With the unfortunate side effect of turning her into a territorial killing machine. Love and madness go hand in hand alot. And the results are often as surreal as they are scary.
❤🔥
This game needs more attention 🔥
Saw the game from Iron Pineapple. The footage brought me back 20 years. I remember playing some PS1 demos from some magazine, that I can't even remember their names anymore. There was 1 similar, but in third person and limited view, similar to silent hill's fog of war. Anyways, it also reminded me of Vagrant Story. A game where I couldn't understand the mechanics because I was young, but turns out they were complicated as hell, since I played it 3 years ago to finally beat it. I truly wish this explodes in popularity and invokes similar feelings not only to those born in the 90s, but in the younger generations as well, who haven't experienced this. A true, pure, and simple, gaming experience. Edit: the games I was trying to remember, and couldn't find them for many years, were "Nightmare Creatures" and "Deathtrap Dungeon".
Craving the game but i only have a switch so i can't play it unless a port happens 💀
We don't know yet if we'll be on switch at release, or maybe even on the successor to nintendo switch, but we're definitely looking into ports!
@HarktheGhoul one can hope, Godspeed! 🙏
I saw Ironpineapple's coverage of this demo recently. Surprised you don't have a lot of views even after the exposure. Keep it up this looks hella fun and I plan on purchasing the game when it's all set and done!
Although views on our own stuff have not gone up, we've seen great numbers on the game (more than doubled our wishlists) and quite a few arrivals on the discord, so it's all good! Thanks for your support, will do our best to deliver!
The Hollow Knight inspiration is clear! A beautiful melancholic tune, perfect for exploring the rainy streets. Love the game so far, as well as the music. Cannot wait for the full release!
This is the ONE song we asked Jarren to take inspiration from Hollow knight for. Good ear! Glad you like the OST. Lots more cool music coming up in the full release!
How much will it be on release?
We haven't yet determined the price of the game, but we are determined to make it as affordable as possible!
@ looking forward to it and will 100% buy
Thank you for a good night's sleep.
indeed so, came here from iron pineapple's vid and honestly, usually i don't check osts of games just from those vids, but this catches quite well the vibe of a sleepy hub in souls and metroidvnaia games.
fuck yea
nice.
Just finished the demo, and it was incredible. Looking forward to the full release.
we got lunacid 2 before bloodborne on pc
0:15 what a cool guy
Crazy underrated, I am so looking forward to this!
The demo is out NOW! we released early to catch bugs before next fest and let influencers play the game early. Head on over to our steam page and have a good time! store.steampowered.com/app/3132850/HARK_THE_GHOUL_Demo/
What is missing is a few elements in the environment, so that the locations are a little full. It is clear that this is done not only because of the retro style, but also the feeling of empty mysterious locations, but it is strange when there are boxes on the location and that's it. Why are they there, for what reason. But the most important thing is that there are not enough animations, why do developers constantly overlook this in retro style? After all, retro style does not always mean complete compliance, because earlier it was justified by the technical limitations. There are pixel art games now, but pixel art has clarity, details, and a number of sprites for animations. Gloomwood, for example, is made in the style of retro graphics, but there are more animations, they are smoother and clearer.
This is a slightly old build, our locations are a bit more detailed now. We make our games the way we'd want the ones we play to look, and adhering to older limitations let us achieve greater scope (locations, enemy variety, equipment) than should be possible with our very small team!
@@HarktheGhoulI like the way it looks. I like this retro style. There are just elements that complement these retro styles. Small teams usually do interesting things like you. I will wait for the release, I hope the game will only get better. Good luck with your development аnd thanks for the feedback.
@@endrgar Thank you, hope you will like the demo. We're still early in development, things will only get cooler from here!
I'm a simple man: I see a dedicated kick in a first person game and you've got my attention. But this also just looks rad all around! Great atmosphere and aesthetics, and it seems like there are some cool mechanics at play + moves to combine and different ways to use the environment to your advantage. Pretty sick- looking forward to checking out the demo!
The more development advances, the more we're going full in on the physics and wacky player options to control combat and platforming encounters. We hope you'll love the demo!
I like the idea of PS1 graphics :) it's really well made and has a great ambiance! I wish you success guys :)
Our graphics are a real interesting challenge to work with, as we try and take inspiration from these older games/graphics while still incorporating modern elements, without creating a strange divide. Glad it looks good to you!
PLS do an artbook with the concept arts when it's out !
We have a TON of concept art and we're planning to include it in a digital artbook accessible from the game's menu for the game's full release, along with artist commentary!
