On a hitch hike to South Island with two friends 1971 we slept overnight on the Kingston Flyer before making our way to the main highway to hitch back to Auckland. We had visited a local town where we were advised to leave asap by the Public House owner; my two friends both male were believed to be from the gangs of the time, to have raped a woman locally and the 'local lads' were out to get them and me. We did as directed and soon saw a car behind us on the road out of the town....my friends pushed me quickly aside into the ditch and stood in front of me as the car stopped - an elderly gentleman opened the doors shouting 'Get in quickly folks' and we did - he said the 'hotel owner had asked him to ensure we were well away from the area make it to the main road and to drive you as far as possible out of danger' - by nightfall we were esconsced in a hay barn close to the fringes of Christchurch and by end of next day safely boarded the ferry to Wellington. We were all wearing denim jackets and with long hair, mullets of course which could have alarmed the locals!! Whew!! what a memory indeed. Thanks for reading this. Cheers Brook

The situation with the Kittyhawk Hanger is before the Historic places Trust. Its the last one from WW11 at Ashburton . Part of the A.A.M. are interested in getting it rebuilt ( its location outside of our boundary is a problem.) If its moved it loses its chance for Funding . A Polythechnic in Chch is interested in the work as a project . Yes we need more hanger space and we are 4 years off 50th Anniversary of the Museum. And possibly a N.Z. Kittyhawk project if it goes ahead may be tied together. NEW community on the Annual Meeting of members on the 6th of may , will hopefully point us in the right direction.

What was that second drum major supposed to be ? not a clue !Sporrn too high, garter flashes to the front and what he was doing with the mace is anybody's guess ! I see they ditched him for the massed bands !

Quite Remarkable

Afternoon shows at Caroline Bay , Timaru , New Zealand . Evening shows attract larger crowds. The day the show was on was cold and overcast and then the rain came just as it finished. Thinking of putting out a second clip from the same show . Dont think it was in Spinal Tap.

Deserved a better crowd. Does this venue feature in the movie This is Spinal Tap?
