Your camera is out of focus most of the time.

Take it apart and clean it really well on the inside. These can easily be fixed by cleaning up the pickup points and removing the excess graphite from the armature and spool, perhaps replacing the brushes etc. . Judging by the discoloring on the gears, it has seen quite a bit of use so it could be the brushes are just worn out. I had an older Marklin H0 loco do exactly the same thing and replacing the brushes and clearing out the old graphite residue made a really big difference. Nice stuff you got at the convention.

Besides the extra feeder joints, you could also take the loco apart and check if there's grease or oil on any of the contact pick up points. I bought a few older (40+ years) minitrix and arnold trains and I just gave it a good cleanup as oil and grease was all over the place. The seller probably thought s/he did me a favor to lube the whole thing a bit too enthusiastically. Once cleaned and lubed with moderation and the carbon brushes replaced, it's all great.

Have you considered adding some more feeder tracks/joints? It looks like it is sensitive to voltage drops? I have to say I don't know how I found your channel but I absolutely love it. Your take on model railroad is like nothing I have ever seen, keep doing what you are doing and be yourself!

Interesting concept, I only run DC and would like to try sound. This seems a great idea, but too susceptible to track which isn’t spotless. Have you considered a Kato soundbox, although they are expensive.

On a real metra train, the second level is open to the center of the train. Most of the seats up there face toward the inside and fold down like stadium seats. I used to love going up there as a kid. Loads of memories on these trains. They really nailed the window tinting.

If that really is the original grease, you should clean it out and apply fresh. By now, that grease is acting like glue. 2.1 Scale miles per hour would be about .25 inch per second or about 50 seconds per foot. And I think Magna-Tractive Force was where they used magnetic wheels to help it stick to the track.

Nice review! And Toys r us? I'd go there and collect hot wheels as a kid but the only trains they had where lego or cheap Chinese all plastic stuff.

My tomix Thomas has an issue rolling fowards . Tho can go great backwards tho fowards it keeps slowing down and speeding up at random

There is acctually several of these steam engines preserved in the uk still And they were mostly in blue paint and one even broke the uk steam speed record … so very fast steam engine And they’re called “LNER A4 pacific” They have one at york railway museum called mallard that is the exact same as seagull only with a name change and red wheels And there is some in BR green If you come to the uk go to yorks railways museum go and see the mallard Oh and the reason your engine is shaking it’s normal . Most uk engines what are big and have tenders have that it’s just normal and don’t whatever you do take it to pieces … it won’t end well Anyways you got one of the good ones . You could have gotten worse from grahamfarish trust me .. Tho perhaps I recommend the J39 model that grahamfarish is making . They’re going to be amazing … they made them once before and sold out so are having new ones shipped in . They’re an 0-6-0 design with tender on the rear with the uk rapido couplers . They tend to pull freight usually and all that stuff . Maybe try one of them next That’s it . Bye👋🏽

Will you consider the Bachman n scale toad the breakvan from Thomas and friends . He is a classic character and like Toby he is good quality I think .

I have the 4+4 set and will get the other 8 next week. I actually rode on this when I was in Japan. As for the shark fin devices on some of the cars, in real life they direct the power cables between cars. Kind of like hang them up. So you were right, it's a power thing. :) Not every car has them. And for the "hidden" compartment underneath the first and last car, they are for Kato's FL12 light decoders if you run DCC. They will control whether it should be white light or red light depending on direction of travel. They switch the colors automatically. Finally, the gap distance between the old set and new set are about the same. It's looks "closer" on the old set because of the dark colors between cars. It hides the gap and make it visually smaller. It's an optical illusion. :)

I hate to admit. But your Kato FEF-3 844 looks weird without its smoke deflectors. It did look like this when it rolled off the assembly line. But since revenue service and excursion service 844 has never been seen without smoke deflectors. Please feel free to explain in reply why you don’t like them. The Kato model looks great with them on. But they are removable if you like to see what it looked like when it rolled off the assembly line. And the Big Boy is a huge hit made by Kato. And both sets of drive wheels are its own engine. Lots of pulling power under one boiler. It’s even perfect to double head with 844. If you plan on doing a 4014 and 844 double header, I’m ok with you keeping 844s deflectors off since you like it that way.

Never run model trains on carpet you pick up the carpet fibers in the wheel gears and motors always mount your equipment in a proper track layout.
