Sailboat for sale. 1 Bristol 41. 1. Full walk through and tour. OnlySails Episode 1

Review of bristol 41.1 1983 interested buyer contact Chrisverra02@gmail.com
There is only one Millennium Falcon, a Tayana owned by our friends from England/Australia. This was a heart-attack at first glance from the title. Very cruel.
The rudder without a skeg would be a deal breaker for me. I don't see the draft as a problem. Oh yes, I think the price is just about OK for a yacht that's almost 16 years old ... but there have to be enough sails and they have to be in good condition.
This boat is a great coastal sailor but for sure not an Ocean going boat
The screw is so far away from the rudder that the effect only sets in three days later. Maneuvering in narrow harbors or narrow reef passages with strong currents quickly becomes a game of poker. And with the draught, half of the Caribbean remains closed to you and even in Polynesia you get real problems here and there. Nice boat, but not for what you're planning. Your boat should be a good compromise that offers speed and safety but also allows you to sail in shallow waters. A protected rudder, possibly a variable draft or maybe even a twin keel to be able to fall dry and still have high rigidity would probably be the best solution.
I totally agree!. What is this boat meant to do? Maybe race? A protected fully enclosed keel with a shallow draft is a must in my opinion.
Great weekend sailor, not good for a blue water boat for what you want to do .
Agreed. Must be fully encapsulated keel with skeg hung rudder. That rudder would be bent off with in the 1st 10k NM if it was a novice sailor at her helm.
Yeah and that saildrive hmmm scary .
Looks like a repossession-NOTHING done to prep for sale - comes with laundry and maybe old Food too. What a deal!
Even at 179 CDN? I bet someone out there could offer considerably less and acquire this vessel..
Not a fan of the layout. I'd do away with the owners head and bunks to make it a big owners cabin. Not a fan of the galley either.
Based on YOUR travel plans, aka circumnavigation, I see no cons. You want a deep keel and the pacific is very deep water. I’d say, go ahead, buy it !
Maybe your right. Most of my time would be on passage in the Pacific. With this vessel she would move fast..
Watch EV,glad you are doing something to keep you engaged in sailing.
We will sail around the world! Just need to find the right boat!!
First. ... Great review Captain Michael !!!!
Quite familiar with these boats being here in Rhode Island. They’re still popular due to the quality of construction. The centerboards seem to be the common repair issue . Bear in mind that these guys closed up back in the eighties so there will be age related problems. Ted Hood specialized in heavy displacement boats. $150k for this? Get serious. This broker guy is clueless, huh. Could’ve done a little research.
Damn that boat is just nasty inside
Clean the boat up before you show it. It was like digging thru a trash pile
Stop with all the side stories and show the boat. You just jabber on and on. Boring
Re-rigged, fridge/freezer compressor, new diesel engine. Solar, batteries, plumbing, in fact everything will need replacing... You are essentially buying the hull wood fittings on the interior, and sails that might give you 5 years... $150K to spend and a couple of years work... Good base boat but a project boat non the less... Id pay 10K ... No more...
Head room ???
Lose that Fecking goat tail
500 bucks for a day sailor until it sinks
Hope whoever buys it has the the time and knowledge to do the work required. Otherwise run. I know where that boat is and finding people to do the work is a nitemare. Been there done that. One of the most stressful experience of my life. " the term time and materials" is a soul crusher.
Painted with what
I would pay 5k MAX , PERSONALLY would offer to take it off their hands to sAVE them the storage costs for FREE , if you got lucky a total refit DIY will be 50k for a Bluewater open ocean circumnavigator and you would have an AWESOME BOAT !! Love that interior layout !Sure if ya got $$$$$ to burn buy a much newer boat , but when you diy refit you learn every facet , every system of your vessel and you can invest the $$$ into it slowly as you have it ! There are a lot of great full encapsulated keel Bluewater tanks on the market cheap in various conditions all capable circumnavigators if properly equipped . Westsail , Cabo Rico and more ! We found a reel "sleeper" ! A Downeaster 38 on the hard for a decade for $1k , we are half way thru a refit and are very happy with our choice of a proven circumnavigator ! I know of many DE32 & DE38 like ours veery cheap ( Free to $5k ) and in not terrible condition ! You do not have to spend 50k , 150k , 250k to buy a boat that will take you anywhere ! We have less than 5k into our refit and will splash soon ! Yes by time we buy all the fancy toys we will likely have 40-50 k in our home ! and that is a risk as nobody will fully insure an older 60's-80's boat . We assume the risk . Yes you are NOT sailing when you face a 12-36 month refit , but we have enjoyed the process ourselves . A Cutter Rig 32-38 is the perfect boat for a solo with occasional crew .
My dream boat @ $35k. That's what my buddy has in his.
Worth no more than $10,000. In the condition that it's in presently. Years of work and a ton of $$$
Owned and re-fitted her big sister the 45.5; great boat. Well designed and well built. The 41.1 is basically the same boat without a stahl shower and a bit easier to handle. 155 with the additional work is fair.
So pull the engine, cooler and air-conditioner then scrap the boat.
Hey Capt Michael - if youre going to make a top secret boat video, dont do a wide drone shot of the coast line. It wasnt super hard to find the custom builder / yacht service facility. So you dont get the boat poached, i wont say the name. Hell of a name for a yard though. (im aware its the founder's last name. its funny to imagine if it wast a family name and they just called the yard that) Cool video and walk through. I dig the boat too. Probably needs ~$50K+ minimum to go blue water though.
Older yachts are hard to get insured
Am interested in the windvane... did you say it's and Adventurer? I can't seem to find any info on that on the web. My boat is a 28 foot Cape Dory
You need a moisture test - deck could be soft
BTW how can you do sailing boat blog and have not a clue about Bristol sailing yachts. Center cockpit are the queens of cruising vessels with usually an amazing aft cabin. Most comfortable for cruising.
Hi Chris. This a beautiful boat. Hope this guy is not your broker as he is clueless about sailing boats and very annoying.
I’d pay 3k and winter storage
Seriously great deal !
How do you import a boat from Canada into the us? How do you transfer the ownership? Do you pay then both sales tax in Canada and have to pay import tax to the US? I have looked often at Canadian sailboats but not could find an answer to those questions
Good solid boat Would have liked to see a furler on it but I would take it as is.
Excellent starter boat. Need to see more of these to keep sailing alive. Great find.
Hi Michael, Bayfeild, beautiful boat, Gozzard, got their start with this design. The tour was rough, and more and more as you investigated, I say RUN! You want to sail, not get into projects and spend a ton of $$ and not sailing! I know trust me, our boats are projects, and we aren’t boating! Not GOOD! Love this channel, you’re doing fantastic on the tours, you know what you are doing! 😊❤
I crewed on a Bayfield 32 back in the 90s. We took her from Green Bay to Detroit. An absolute great lakes TANK! I believe it would have made a great blue water Voyager. 15 years on the hard is an awful long time. If you have Deep Pockets go for it. Myself I would have to pass even if it's free.
great boat for people that want to get a boat ready to go and a boat that can be restored to a really incredible sailboat. The engine alone is worth the price
With the Canada/USA exchange rate (1.42 at BMO) the Tittle should be Under $6K (USA)!
Tartans are great boats . She will get you there . Great video .
Free is Good !!!!
125 Port Darllington Rd..... giggly giggly.
Dude, buy the boat. You are more excited about a shitty compass than I was on my wedding day. Here's hoping the boat lasts longer than my marriage. A boat is one of the few 'things' that can actually make your dreams a reality. If your dream is deep ocean crossings, this boat sounds well suited for you. Most would outgrow a 36'. You have the experience to know if this boat will work for the next few years or the next few decades for you. Wood can be replaced. Sails too. A quality hull and deck are the critical features. Those look solid. Best of luck.👍
While, a Cape Dory 36 was purchased for $11,000.00, and after FOUR YEARS of work( 8000 pus hours!) they have a wonderful boat. I think they spent almost $100K to get there with doing 99% of the work themselves. Sad to say this , do you have four good years you want to spend rebuilding this boat? "Sailing Magic Carpet" is the 36ft Cape Dory RUclips site.
Hi, I'm kind of in the same delema as I'm in the process out in MI. (I'm also Canadian). I spent sometime alone to see if I get the vibe of the vessel. Are you willing to spend time out to resetle this boat back to life? I feel she's worse it but...have not reviewed the survey. All the best. Keep up the good wrk
Bayfeild but without the clipper bow - this would be my dreamboat...
Michael, you speak from real world experience. Nice work again. Very informative and entertaining!
Great video Michael. Love your sailing EV channel too. Nice work!
Awesome boat!!
