Very nice review. Some of these straps are stiff. How do you get them to loosen up, just wear them for a while or any tricks?

Good question! Some of the stiffer sailcloth straps, such as the Dassari, Northstar and even Artem Classic do tend to mold to your wrist shape after some time. Easiest way to break them in is to keep your timepiece strapped to a watch pillow when you are not wearing it. Also I found that some flexing and rolling the strap in your hand helps loosen up the padding. The Hirsch Arne and Artem Hydroflex are different, being fully rubber backed and not padded so they are inherently more flexible. Regardless, I think that some stiffness is part of the character of these type of straps. This gives them structure and a sort of hybrid feel.

I absolutely like this watch. I just cannot get passed the logo. It’s big and looks off on this dial.

Agreed. But there are worse offenders out there😂

Good review of the San Martin. I have not looked at San Martin mostly due to it being a Chinese made micro brand. Although, you point out the quality movement and build quality that might rival entry-level Swiss so maybe worth reconsidering. I collect mostly Seiko dive watches both new and vintage. Thanks for your review.

Very good review of sailcloth straps, I typically wear bracelets and Natos but have not looked at sailcloths but based on your excellent review, I will to some of these. Thanks,

Thank you for the unbiased, authentic review. Well done. What brand of spring bars do you recommend?

Otto Frei (www.ofrei.com) carry a great selection of Premium Swiss spring bars. I have also purchased some from Marathon Watch. For good quality spring bars expect to pay around $2/ea.

Wow, I had no idea there was such a range in quality with sailcloth straps! This was like a Project Farm comparison, very informative. I own some rubber straps by Dassari from Strapsco, I wonder if they also use a thin springbar with a plastic sheath, I'll check when I get off the couch

Indeed I too was surprised after seeing so many reviews which favorably compare the most inexpensive straps to the pricier ones. The spring bar concern I raised sure made me realize that despite similar appearances of the straps, there are some big differences in the construction and quality. And given the price difference that’s perfectly fine. I would expect more from a $200 strap than a $25 one.

Good review. I was thinking about getting an Artem Strap. Seem pricey though.

No doubt Artem are ambitious in their pricing. Nevertheless they do make a high quality product.

Thank you sir this is exactly what I've been wondering about for the last couple of months. I was pretty much eyeing all of these sailcloth straps.

Great video!! You've clearly done your homework!! I'm definitely interested in the Artem loop less strap and intrigued by the deployment clasp.

The Artem Loop-less strap with deployant clasp is fantastic, but it’s an investment.

Hi Nick!!!! Great video!! I have a Mavado and the band broke so I took it back and the clip to the band is soooo hard to open and close, I now can't wear it at all!

Could be it needs cleaning or possibly something isn’t aligned with the clasp. Stacey @ Gallant in Orleans might be able to sort it out for you. Thanks for watching.

How many straps do you own?
