Why I replace TECHM’s on my 6L80 rebuilds
Просмотров 538Год назад
This is why I like to replace the TECHM assembly during a 6L80 rebuild for one of my customers. A lot of the times the TECHM can be reused but it is just one more thing that can fail within the transmission. #chevrolet #6l80 #6l80 #automatictransmission #gmc #transmission #mechanic #mechanicalengineering #automotive
6L90 no movement in forward or reverse
Просмотров 6 тыс.Год назад
This is a disassembly or a tear down of a 6L90 automatic transmission for a no movement condition in forward as well as reverse range. While no movement can come from a check ball it is highly unlikely that two check balls will stick in the separator plate simultaneously. I have seen this failure before but it has only been on 4x4 2500HD work truck pick ups. #AutomaticTransmission #Chevrolet #6...

GM 10L80 automatic transmission idler gear failure and pump whine
Do mine next 😢😂
How do you correct the problem?
2015 Impala did this to me. Put a used 32k mile trans in it. 6 months later, happened again 🤦🏿...
Yet for some reason, 10 speed swaps are all the rage right now. People just want to feel special lol
The last good 4x4 truck I had was a 79 F150. It was a gas hog, but it was as capable and tough as any half ton truck made today.
Will it whine when new?
@@joelpierce3940 No
Where are you located, have the same issue with a sierra 1500
Does an 08 Escalade ESV 6.2 v8 have that transmission?
One of your shorts you said you recommended 40,000 fluid changes at a minimum on these transmissions. I prefer to do my own maintenance and since I don’t have a fluid exchange machine I was going to do pan drops at 20,000 mile intervals. I’ve already completed one. You think this is sufficient?
@@flyer8493 20k on an 8 speed could be overkill. I would every 30-40k
How about building quality!
10 speed from ford and gmc suck.
Just had this happen at 140k. Definitely upgrade the converter if you can swing it.
Do they have a fix for this?
What’s the preventative fix for this?
@@motojedi6580 swap it with ford gears that don’t fail
Excellent video!!!
Need to go inform dealers about this. Just had mine done by dealer and they weren’t going to change the filter. Stupidest thing I ever heard of.
Anyone got an estimated cost of repair on this issue? Pretty sure I’ve got this issue going on. Taking to dealer today……of course just out of warranty. 😂
Takes less than an hour to build still charges the customer six hours labor
On 12 - 14 - 24, to see if they made upgrades to the 10-speed for the 2025 models. The salesman told me what I didn't want to know is yes he doesn't know. And then he told me all they just recalled that 2024 for an upgrade. Yeah that's the software upgrade and I didn't want to hear that. 😮
Turn up the radio 😂
2016 Yukon....trans failed at 70K.....now at 132K with the 2nd trans. Was starting to intermittently slip going into 6th. Had it flushed and serviced. So far, slips are gone.....
Just happened along your channel while gathering information on the 2025 GMC Yukon. They have a 10 speed transmission. Should I purchase the vehicle, should I have it rebuilt before it fails, preventativly? Thanks.
So how do we fix or repair this
@@carlcarter7080 The Ford Part will likely never fail and it is interchangeable. Tbh this is a rare failure
Thanks dude
Stop driving and do what? Wont the dealer say they couldn't replicate!
You should do a walk around video. I would like to see the whole thing
@@JustinTreece I’m Sorry buddy it’s actually my old truck I sold it because it needed head gaskets
@ oh well, did it have any lift or anything on it?
@ No, leveled on 285s. You can see it on my Instagram
@@esoterictransmissions nice I’ll check it out
Concern for quality has been replaced with concern for CEO bonuses and stock buybacks.
"You have a transmission inside your transmission." 😅
I got a new tranny for free
It happens because of the transmission coolant bypass valve failing and not allowing the transmission fluid to pass through and get cooled. My buddies truck is doing this and just cruising down the highway, the fluid temps are hitting 270F. The guy he bought it from had a new transmission upt in and this one has like 3k miles on it. Because you "transmission shops" won't FIX THE PROBLEM.
@@JustAGuy85 Wrong. The themal bypass valve on a 6l80 does not make the torque converter fail.
What causes the failure of the TCC
@@Outdoorjunkie246 excessive slip speed
It's a design flaw. Cause by welding the bungs on it to mount it to the flex plate. Creates high spots in the surface the clutch rides on
lol, anyone can do that with pre assembled parts, still curious why a 6 sepped is advertised as #10speed.
I work on a lot of the express vans for FedEx, I work at a chevy dealer, I see a lot of those failures. they over load the vans with stuff and just pops the weld. Also see it a bit on 2500 trucks with gas engines
Another reason to advocate for manual transmission.
Ha my neighbor just bought a used Chevy and i can hear the tranny whinning noise every time he drives away.
This is wild. I have owned my 2021 Chevy DURAMAX for the past 4 years! Free and Clear! I just hit 70,000 miles, no drive training issues. Let's keep moving!
Way to go, GM and Ford.....10 speed transmissions are garbage
Does this issue affect 2024 vehicles?
What’s causes it to shift from 1st to 2nd rough sometimes it’s not all the time just sometimes
What brand exhaust is it
@@DIESELADDICT44 Magnaflow 5 inch exhaust
@ okay thank you
Wat a good class young man
What the hell is GM doing to correct the defects?!
What brand is the exhaust?
Magnaflow 5 inch straight pipe. It was tuned by Duramaxtuner but they don’t offer these tunes anymore
Don't forget the thermal bypass also.
Should have stayed with the 4L80 why
Looks like the came up with the idea with ford
The bad part about the torque converter is it’s a good converter but it’s all in the tune to make it slip while it’s locked up
It's the transmission cooler bypass valve making your transmission run at 260-270F plus at highway speeds.
Good job!
If it weren't for GM, transmission guys wouldn't have a job.
I have a 2017 chevy Silverado and I bought it wrecked and completely swapped a new frame after getting it all back together fired the truck up it makes an awful buzzing noise and when I I put it in gear and it moves but when I give it more gas it’s like it been thrown in nutural and engine revs up then as the rpm’s drop it will move again but reverse works fine
@@TravisSmith-k7d Inspect the fluid level as well as condition. If it doesn’t smell burned you can remove the pan and inspect for debris or remove valve body. It could be a check ball if the fluid is clean. If not there is something else going on
