Surviving the Bicycle Recession | Go Grava Bicycles Update
Isn’t the Amazon e bike same as the Walmart bike? Why do yoj service them?
It depends on the e-bike. Some are fixable, some are not worth the time to fix. The people who own the e-bikes are more accepting of paying the extra money to fix the bicycle correctly. I could strip a Walmart bike to the frame and build it back up correctly with good parts, but the Walmart customer doesn't want to invest in their bicycle like that.
Cant wait for that test bench.
In defense for external batteries, there are some brands that have designed their frame in a way that it makes sense. Tern for example, make excellent quality cargo bikes and the external batteries can be removed for security and off-bike charging in fire resistant bags. Not to mention the ease of replacement vs internal batteries.
Why does it come with the CR1600 and not the GR1600
Same 😅
Great insights, as always! It would be awesome to see you at CABDA West. The insights and perspectives of others attending the show would be interesting and great content to share. Hope to see you out there!
This is really interesting! I have seen and ridden the Giant Roam and I think for the price, they should be a good choice for most in that price range. At 66 years old, I am an avid rider but I know there will be a point where I may need that boost to keep on riding, I’m not ready to give up yet!
Please make a short (less than 10 minutes maybe) covering the most expensive ebike you sell to the least expensive ebike you sell, and compare why rapidly.
The used ebike industry will be wild in 2025. The used electric vehicle 🚗 values are dropping like trying to resell 🍣 day to day. This means that a smart ebike shopper can get a good used ebike for a fraction of a brand new ebike.
It seems to me that the Bafang and Bosch parts are out there in large numbers and have some of the most common connections and will be around for a long time. I am concerned about part avalibility 10 years from now for many ebikes. Also, I agree to steer clear of higher priced ebikes. I got burned by Trek with the Rail when they dropped the price by $2,000.
Good luck. I'm pulling for you.
Thank you!
How is bro not injured after that 😭
The bass isn't hitting until the ceiling panels are dancing and the camera on your phone is wavy.
😆
Is it just me or is that fork pissing any of you guys off because the front bridge thingy that’s supposed to be on the front fork is on the back but then when you look at the fork the way it set up the wheels still in the right placement because the axles are set up to where that fork is the way it supposed to be aesthetically
Our shop in Maryland that focuses on used bikes has been experiencing much of the opposite. It has me really interested in peeling back the layers in the industry and learning the precise reasons why. My suspicion is that the used bike business may do better during tough economic times. 2024 was a record year for us and I have to wonder how many of those sales were "would be new bike sales". Love your perspective, keep up the good work
Yes, I would have moved more inventory with quality used bikes. I don’t thinks it’s the total solution for us, but it should be a segment.
Definitely not just your shop 😂
That is the one thing I am scared of
Supposedly Walmart was going to sell a better bike, like a serviceable one. The Waltons spending a lot of money in their backyard to make for nice riding. If they stopped pushing junk iron and at least had something like what Decathlon in Europe offers, might be ok? C’mon Walmart, take a stand in support of good biking and do better.
Where did you get it from?
I highly recommend not investing in nitrogen. There are lots of cheap needle air fill adapters out there that allow you to use the regular high pressure rockshox shock pump. Air is 70% or something nitrogen anyway. Don't waste money on the 30%. In my opinion anyway.
Anyone doing fat biking in your area during the winter?
Famous last words: “WHY WOULD THEY PUT A JUMP THEREEEEEE”
Consider a Sunday shop ride? All it takes is getting one ore two people who ride year round. Build a local community of like minded folks. Dirty River bicycle shop in Akron, Ohio has the Yeti Squad that meets every Sunday year round. It’s very popular. It might be just the thing to create a buzz around the shop. 😊
Yes, I am moving in that direction in 60 days. Shop rides will commence
Would it make sense if you broadcast a spin class with just you from your shop that you posted on RUclips and Instagram maybe starting with short reels to show some of your training tips? In the style of peloton or GCN during the pandemic. If you were to build out some version of online and in shop Classes and training programs in the future. Make it a feature that you only have during the winter months, demonstrate some of the products as well. Many people aren’t sure exactly what they need and you can help them set up their indoor winter training and stay engaged in the winter. And get their summer bike tuned up too while they’re indoor training. Feed into that bike fitting during the winter, hire someone for winters once you have a base.
I think this winter is the worst possible scenario for you here in Berks County, daylight is minimal, we had rain for weeks in November and December and now we have snow and -10° temperatures so riding is virtually impossible.
It is a tough time, but I'm looking forward to spring!. I'm hoping the cold weather gets people more activated when we actually have a couple of 60 degree days.
Could you talk with your municipality and possibly have an e-bike kiask where people can scan a QR code and rent bikes that way? IDK best wishes for you and your business.
Yes, but that cost is really high in the beginning. The companies that run kiosks and payment systems for e-bikes and e-scooters charge a lot of money. You need a 50% utilization rate to cover costs since they charge a monthly fee for the software services. It’s possible, but you need to scale big to generate a profit which is a huge investment.
You fuc*er..... Man , tripped me out lol
Better have good suspension
I wish you all the best. Hopefully that monster of a shop south of you doesn't suck up all the business of the area.
Yes, that bike shop is the biggest on the East Coast. My thoughts, if there is that much business to support something of that size, there should be plenty of business for a smaller shop.
Just don't be fighting them kangaroos LOL
😂😂
Wtf, no thank you
I think it's wrong to show people who have died and are now zombies
Historically, like the past 25 years, bike shops close at a 10% -12% rate nationally with openings generally being a point or so behind outside of few and far between boom years. Covid was an outlier. The industry is generally returning to where it would have been without the big covid boom. The economy hasn't been terrible for a minute. It's actually a great economy. BUT you underestimated how tough this industry is, and how much it sucks so much of the time. Adapt, survive. Begin planning your exit now. I hope there's enough luck to go around this year.
Jus love on them bro ❤❤❤❤❤
Getting old ain’t no joke brah.
LOL
guy you went to high school with: “i’d land that for sure”
learned one thing about running a bike shop from this video: e-bikes. the rest of the video was all maintenance tips.
Just wear a parachute like the biker
I had to watch a few times but they dropped the bike. I hope they’re ok but that bike is shattered against the rocks.
I had a dream where my brother in law came to me and told me "dreams are preparing you for what is to come" and when i woke up i wrote it down. Went to his house a week later and when i told him he was in my dream, he repeated what he said in my dream. I showed him the note on my phone with the exact quote he just said. We just sat there for a minute after that in silence lmfao
As a kid I would ride bikes, and anytime I'd fuck up a jump I'd go home and have a simmular nightmare.
Must be a fucking crazy feeling when you go off the ledge, look down, know youre going to die, and have time to accept it all before youre halfway down 😂
you look like you have nightmares about bikes.
unc he did it on porpuse bc theres a trail going up
he had a parachute
@@w69bno shit sherlock
That’s so weird because this is exactly like the first nightmare I remember having.. was riding my small bike exact same scene except middle of the night and everything was lit by the moon. Woke up right before the smack down.
Please tell me the bike rider had a fucking wing suit😂
It was most likely a stunt, or the video of him falling wouldn’t have been posted
Just stick The landing you'll be fine
Bro your nightmares is my dreams 😂
😂
Are you okay?
