1989 Chevy S10 Blazer LS Swap NV3500 Part 1 - TEARDOWN
I originally clicked the first video thinking this was a 4x4 ls swap. didnt realize you took out the front diff.
The 4x4 swap can be done with a special oil pan and oil filter relocation hoses. There is also a lift kit that lowers the front diff to help with clearance. I might do that someday if I don't like the 2wd set up.
That kit is soo awesome it made it a diesel.
So cheddas is making k series mounts for our 1st gens now?? 😮
@Illusions864 Yes but good luck getting ahold of anyone there. Seems like it's 1 guy running the business. Took almost 6 months to get our mounts, and then there were missing parts.
@@NotSoFast402 yeah I've know him for awhile, his the only guy doing stuff for vintage Honda stuff
Did you test the lifters in the tray?
I thought he put them in wrong tbh😮
Coffin muffler? Looks like my old Coffin guitar case!
Yes it does!
Love the "light jazz" music that starts around 14:00 - LOL!
I've been finding some good background music lately. Mostly AI made, I assume...
it sounds SO GOOD!!!!!!
I think so too!
KILLER exhaust work
This was round 1. I actually re did most of it. Tune in to part 6 😅
salad tossers lol
👍
What are y'all doing with the old engine?
There's a rod hanging out of the block. We sold the cylinder head.
Dude is scoring so many deals!!!
Hell yea man. Thats a pretty advanced project!
All in a days work 👍
Cool! You bought the Possum van from Red Green!
Haha yea pretty much! The back was full of trash, I'm glad there wasn't a possum in there!
You had to know something was up when you scraped the piston with a chisel, right? I would have ran the crap out of that engine. It sounded like it has some piston slap or the small end of the rod was knocking. It didn't sound like regular rod knock to me.
Sounds like to me you didn't break in the cam properly usually with a new cam lifters you start up and let it run at 3k rpm 30 mins or so break in then change the oil..
Not on a roller. Install and race
I bought the same kit I used everything except the lifters and trays
you fixed it I had one of those underpowered pieces of crap glad somebody knew what to do with it put a bigger engine in it
Did you mean brake?
Just throwing this out there, just in case you run into swapping a pedal assembly on a blazer/ S10 ever again. Especially if your dash pad already looks rough. Aftermarket plastic cap..... And a hole saw..... Instant access, and cover the sin with a part that makes it slightly more decent inside. I actually recovered the dash in mine with purple velvet after I punched a big hole to remove the upper pedal assembly bolt. Purple velvet isn't anyone's first choice, however as a vintage lowrider replica, it's a must......but no mirrors. I hate stupid frickin mirrors glued to the interior.
Good to know thanks for the tip!
What headers are those?
S10v8.com shorty headers
Awesome thank you
Sounds like a rod cap never got tightened! Did you remember to tighten the cap? Did you plastiguage the tolerances on that main or rod cap you removed? I would have done the clearances before you did anything to see if the bearings were trashed, you guys just assumed!
It got torqued to spec. It was a high mileage cheap truck to experiment with
Pistons
Wish I was a fly on the wall in your shop. I can almost smell the rubber and oil. Gpa Bob is so proud right now❤
There are plenty of smelly smells in the shop!
Not made for update engine I used factory wire harness for 4.3 from 2.8 just had to order distributor wires
Works pretty good!!
Yes sir!
Flushing out all that metal is a lot more important than ever diesel or mineral spirits so your new parts will last longer than the end of your driveway
I am working on my first Ls swap. Not my first engine tho lol. Its a Ls3/6L90E in a 03' Crown Vic Police Interceptor. Its a project with my grandkids.
I bought the same kit for my 10 avalanche. Never had an issue!! Once I updated the driver side valve cover. We was good! Put 80k on that engine
Does 86-89 Integra have enough room in the engine bay to house a K series engine and keep P/S and A/C running?
I don't know yet, honestly. I want to run P/S but we are not planning on doing A/C.
Oh man keep posting. i own a 1987 Integra myself and planning to do a K20A swao. urs would be very helpful for me. TIA
Will do. Getting the engine ready currently.
Usually these cheap kits skimp out on the Lifter trays. I don't understand why. I mean, they are just plastic after all. They can allow the lifters to rotate which would be detrimental. I wonder if you used the kit, but used better quality lifters how it would turn out.
I agree. Lifters and trays are questionable in this kit. Camshaft? Who knows, maybe its ok.
I'm doing a 88 Jimmy 4x4 took out the 2.8 it was the hardest motor I ever took out
They are deceptively difficult
What size wrench do you need for that?
Yes
Yes.
Well that was fun! I "watched" (listened mostly) while I was painting our living room in our new house - can't wait for you to see it! Thanks for keeping me entertained while I was on the floor trimming by the baseboards.
Cool! I was happy with most of the music I found for this one, hopefully you enjoyed the soundtrack.
@@NotSoFast402 Yeah - the music was great! Who was it?
@@michaelmcinnis911 just some free non-licensed music!
Probably you need to take that nice lady some cookies. 😂
Great idea!
The engine sounds like a Lion roaring through its jungle. I didn’t know you’re allowed to drive around without a front bumper or hood!
It's WAY too loud right now. We were just going around the neighborhood. The rest of the vehicle will be assembled, I promise 😅
I'm pretty sure je passengèr is french for copilot.
Uh...yea that's what I'm sayin!
I'm ready for the next teg video 😂
Me too! It's coming...
With the lift kit you did it was the 2.5 inch, right? I'm curious how much room that will free up with being able to run the driver side exhaust manifold. Like will it clear the differential.
The lift didn't move the differential at all so it doesn't help with clearance. I would have to get a $500 oil pan to clear the differential and relocate the oil filter. I removed the front differential for now.
@NotSoFast402 Darn it. I swear the 2.5 inch lift kit comes with a drop for the differential. Any idea how much of a drop is needed?
@@DittoBlast I don't know how much the differential would have to be lowered. I think the oil filter has to be relocated no matter what. And might need that special oil pan as well. I'll go down that road someday if I make it all wheel drive...
Your chopping a unicorn, you just don't see 86-89 integra anymore
We haven't chopped anything. We're gonna put this car back on the road with a modern drive train.
You using k series harness an ecu or stand alone harness?
@brenndon-sz3gj we have not decided yet. I would guess stand alone harness
Very cool, Nate! I'm impressed. And you're right - a great b-day present!
Yes it was! Didn't plan it that way, but that made it cool.
I heard Dan has a collectors collection. He's keeping them all for himself...
No doubt! He got called out in this one lol
Looking good
Nice 👍
I can’t believe how you can find the little things wrong with the car. You have car-doctor’s eyes
Oh Nate! I want a ride in that car!!!!
It's sold! But there will be more!
I love how happy you are about this car❤
El mecánico 🔥🤤
Excellent work sir!
Thanks!
