Magnetism and Mechanical Watches Part 2
Was wondering where you purchased your main work bench. I am a retired cabinet maker and restore old vintage watches. I enjoyed the tour. Thanks for any help
I can't remember the makers name, but my main bench I work on was made in Chico CA by a cabinet maker. Jules Borel supplies great watchmaking benches in the USA and tools too.
I really wished you would have given us viewers a sample of the wages of a watchmaker .. thanks for great video.
Wages all depend on your skill level, individual qualifications, and the specific role you are working in or applying to. The location of the work is also a large factor in pay because of the cost of living. If you are qualified to work on high complications like perpetual calendars and up from prestigious makers then you will command a much higher wage than a watchmaker fresh out of school with a CFC or equivalent watchmaking certificate. The range is huge. You will find people working in watchmaking roles with pay between $30,000 to $300,000, but maybe more realistically in the $80k to $100k range with a watchmaking certificate and some real life experience.
I’ve been enjoying all of your videos. You have an excellent teaching style and extensive in-depth knowledge. Do you cut your gears with the laser or is that a mechanical process. Love to see how those gears are made! Thanks.
So good. Really the best explanation one can find!!
THANK THANK THAAAANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! THE QUESTION I HAD SEARCHING FOR SO LONG FINALLY ANSWERED!!
Y’all are Epic Geniuses from the Ages of Mechanical Wizardry which is beyond Impressive. I never knew. It’s crazy how we simply just take such Perfection for granted. I am in awe. So much Respect for the Minds that Invented & brought such into Reality.
Denatured Alcohol or Isopropil Alcohol, which one is better? or Naphta?
Impossible to watch without 1.25x speed
👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
A very good workshop, an excellent level of equipment, but I can't understand how a watchmaker can have a clock balance with the axis DOWN !?? this is not acceptable friends)

Just wondering what brand is the brushing wheel?
I learned through this video, just now ,my dominant eye. Thank you!!!!
Doesn’t that caffeine make your hand shake?😉
Very well explained👍
Classy👍
You deserve an Oscar for this series. I'm going through them one by one. I'm transcending. The passion and patience to make these vids. None other by anyone like it
Too satisfying to watch ❤
why didn't I know about this channel earlier! love this vid. Footage, music, lighting, close ups everything!
I was checking last week and saw that Miami has the 2 year and 1 year programs....
That's excellent to hear that they are doing the full 2 year program again. Thank you for the update.
After all these years it still blows my mind how a watch can be worn daily for 30 years, then lie in a drawer for another 20, then be bought by me who sticks it on a timegrapher and it's out 30sec/day when only half wound! To put that in perspective, 30sec/day is 99.99965% accurate despite the treatment we subject a watch to just by wearing it. And I don't know of anything in regular life that comes close to that level of accuracy
There's a Bachelors degree in Horology at Birmingham City Uni in England too. Thanks for providing a collected overview of watchmaking education in the United States.
Thank you for the additional information!
Thank you for the videos. I don't understand though how you can clean small parts with brush? For example some of the jewels.
Your videos are SO well made. Awesome job. Love the slow methodical education, coupled with the videography to show what you are explaining. So appreciate the time you put into these videos. Your patience with explaining the workings of these mechanical watches is similar to the complexity of how these watches are made. There is SO much thought and work put into these, and most people just buy a Rolex and have no idea what they have on their wrist. Your videos really help me appreciate these timepieces - THANK YOU!
Cameron Weiss is a master communicator. The tempo of his speech is the best I have EVER HEARD! Listening to this video is a joy and makes me think I can actually clean my collector's watch! If I take the expensive top off and find it too full of grime, I may contact him to clean it.
Very well explained
another way to figure out what eye is dominant is to simply point with your finger at a specific spot on something that is distant from you. Close one eye, did the finger move? if so, closed eye is dominant, if not, open eye is dominant.
Ok, so now i know what i can use to clean by hand. I do have a question regarding lubrication though, what oils would you recommend for someone who just wants to service their personal watches, just to get their feet wet in the hobby, but doesn't have a lot of money for the high end oils? Are there any lower cost alternative oils you can recommend?
What's the model microscope you are using.
In the video I am using an Olympus STM7 measuring microscope. There are other options that are more advanced today as the STM7 is about 8 years old now.
When Frederique Constant introduced the monolithic silicone escapement, they had to reduce the torque off the mainspring. They accomplished this by adding another wheel to the gear train. Supposedly that reduction doubled their power reserve.
Thanks for sharing! ❤
Cameron,,,,, have you met Roland Murphy of RGM watches ??,,,,,,,, I have followed him for some time and he also shares the passion ❤you have on American 🇺🇸 watch making a generation before you !
Horrible if your timepiece would fall from your wrist to the hard ceramic tile floor, unless you are wearing the only "God Tier" watch that has ever been produced in the world the warrior Casio "G-Shock"!
Very useful info. Thanks
Nikel
28/Hr is not good pay..
How this channel is not more popular is beyond me. Excellent content.
My favorite 2024 is the Prospex Limited Edition 1965 Recreation European Exclusive in Gradation Island Blue. The dial is stunning and the contrast when on a white strap is to die for. I will get my hands on one from AMZWATCH
Excellent explanation on jewel’s and some of the theory of mechanical watches,,,,,,,,, thank you !
As always the most thoughtful , well researched & eloquent watch channel around , keep AMZWATCH coming !
This a great stuff, Cameron. Thank you!
playback speed at 1.25 👌
This is why I’ve bought a Weiss 38mm Field watch. I wanted a watch from a true independent watchmaker following an horological tradition and passion.
Have you ever thought about doing a collab with RGM? The two best American watchmakers, working together, I like the sound of that!
Your speaking cadence... is... quite...... unusual.... great video.... though....
Not good for the person putting the watch in ultrasound mschine..😢either😢..😂they would not be working in the business.....
Some watches people would hand me were really filthy..I didn't even want to touch the item....so yes, carefully clean bracelet......😊.....
