I would recommend staying away from these more tropical, hotter regions of the country if you're without an immediate support system. You will be exposed to dengue type diseases in these hotter regions, requiring preventive measures to limit bites from mosquitoes and no see-ums. It's always good to insure at least one room in the house has AC. It provides a sanctuary to escape to during the hottest part of the day and allows for more comfortable sleeping at night. My wife is from Girardot and the heat there used to really bother me as a gringo. Over the years I became more tolerant and learned how to cope with it; to put the insect repellent religiously on my ankles and know that the no see-ums were worse in the early morning and late afternoon. I love the Girardot weather now and always look forward to visiting. Strangest thing my wife has gotten used to Florida central air and suffers more than I do now when we visit! Colombians will always tell you that tierra caliente is only a 2 1/2 hour drive from Bogota but much of the time it is 4-5 hours. It's only 70 miles but it might take you 1-2 hours just to get out of the city. Holiday weekends (puentes) are the worst to be on the road. Colombians are more tolerant of these inconveniences. For them it's just all part of the experience, the adventure. That's how you have to look at it.

Reminds me of San Andrés. Colombians are extremely nice and lovely people. But those on that island were not welcoming nor friendly, even though their entire livelihood depended on tourism. Loved the beach though. It's great to see cons as well in the trips. Many vloggers sugarcoat everything and create false expectations. Thanks for being honest and balanced.

The best thing about Santos and Baixada Santista is that it has a beauty and urban coastaline far just 60km from SP City Downtown and another one - we dont have "cariocas" (Rio de Janeiro born ones - what a sh** ppl they are)
