    I used this guide to open a Sonicare 4100 without breaking anything. The main difficulty was dealing with all the electrical connections using fine wires. I rerouted one of them into a notch in the plastic motor housing, and got the motor to run again. I lost the "too much brushing pressure" warning, but I think that's a small price to pay. The 4100 doesn't have that holding screw at the top. It seems overall a little too delicate to last very long without having to open it for another round of maintenance. It's not as expensive as the high-end models (under $50), but that isn't a good enough excuse for being unreliable. A lot of the negative reviews I've seen mention early failure. It's possible the wire I rerouted was misrouted in the first place, and by routing it through that notch in the plastic, I put it where it belonged, and will reduce the need to open it again. Overall, it was easier than I thought it would be.

    Hello, my toothbrush won't start, but the battery is reading 4v. I have tested the fuses and the power resistor and all are fine. However close to the switch, there is a small brown capacitor that is shorting to ground on both ends. Would you by any chance know the ohms / voltage of the capacitors that are used as I feel it's this one issue that is stopping the entire thing turning on. I don't really wish to remove one to measure it, as they are quite small and I'll probably lose it. Thanks.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage 5 дней назад

      If it's shorting you have to remove it. Capacitors are measured in uF but it's very difficult to measure their values and there are no value on them written.. you can try to run it without the capacitor as some times they work to level out voltage spikes so not always they are 100% necessary for motherboard to function..

      @@letsfixitgarage Hello, please forgive my ignorance, I didn't mean ohms, I meant microfarads, I posted this at the end of the day of fault finding. I think I was going mad by that point! Anyway, really weird thing. I pressed the button today and all of a sudden it's working again. I have no idea how this is possible. I pressed the button so many times yesterday and it was dead as a dodo. I kind of don't like that is working because it doesn't make sense. I would prefer to know why it hadn't been for 24 hours. Really strange. I guess what I suspected was a cap can't be a cap... but I tested all the other same colour caps and one end would have continuity between ground, and the other not, except this single cap. I'm baffled.

    Very nice video After I changed the battery on my io9, the unit didn't turn on and I was worried that I had made a big mistake After some troubleshooting I found out that the "teeth" of the battery compartment were recessed and were not making contact with the battery anymore. I just got a pair of tweezers and pointed them back to the battery compartment and then everything started working again What a relief 😅

  • @CASTSTONE
    @CASTSTONE 15 дней назад

    I 've been using this tooth brush for 5 years now. It still works but the rubber parts has started to disintegrate (which is disappointing as I've always kept it clean) and there is an air bubble underneath. Your video inspired me so I opened it up thinking it had to be the internal air pressure that was causing the bubble, but no. I think it's just the rubber expanding and forming a dome. There is some evidence of tooth paste ingress but it's so little that I doubt it caused any issues. I wish I could buy a replacement casing.

    Здравствуйте! Моя зубная щётка Philips sonicare перестала работать, она все время моргает зелёным светодиодом. Когда ее ставишь на зарядку не происходит звук зарядки, но зарядка потихоньку идет 0.07A. При коротком нажатии кнопки не включается. Когда долго нажимаешь кнопку три раза коротко вибрирует шток и три звука разной тональности. Если нажимаешь кнопку долго еще раз то тоже 3 вибрации штока и 3 звука только в обратной тональности. При этом я ощущаю как шток хорошо вибрирует. Щетку еще не разбирал. Подскажите пожалуйста на что обратить внимание при ремонте? Может быть вы сталкивались с такой проблемой. Спасибо большое.

    I have two: IO7 and IO9. When the battery issues started, I got the replacements. I put them inside, and both toothbrushes worked fine, and the seal membranes were not damaged. But just after 2-3 days, one died, and the other could not pass the Hello launcher. I opened both of them - a lot of the liquid inside. Two questions: 1. Could it be that the liquid caused some short circuit, which is not repairable (unless you replace the motherboard)? 2. What I understood is that although you can open this kind of toothbrush for battery replacement, in most cases, you cannot put them back with the waterproofing you had initially. So it just doesn't make an immense sense. Thank you in advance for your reply!

      @user-mo3gy7yt8u jain :) sometimes there are defects in solder point it's true, but much ofter it's a defective or starting to fail fuse. I have witnessed a lot of them when you start a toothbrush and it slowly dies.. if you measure the fuse before starting it has low resistance, but as soon as it starts working fuse resistance increases and it stops.. this type of behaviour confuses the diagnostic process immensely, that's why I made this video. my suggestion is to replace the fuse in to a different type one and not to experiment with heating or pressure..

I'll leave it sitting and 15 minutes later it spontaneously starts working. Then, I can't get it to stop no matter how many times that I press the switch. The only way to stop it is to put I on the charger! At least, I now know how to open it up.

    The video was excellent. My device was blocking every 10 seconds with the blade symbol appearing, but changing the blade didn’t help. I managed to fix it by removing the battery and forcing a reset of the device. Thank you very much for the video. I’m impressed by how no one talks about the problems with this device: the Braun Pro S9. This is the second one I’ve bought with the same issue. The company should better inform its customers. It made me throw the first one away and buy another. Impressed with your video, but it’s a shame for the company

    Pure gold. I love the way you explained the workings. I have one and it stopped working suddenly. I found a break in that rubber seal on top and water had seeped in. Undoubtedly, this was the cause. I cleaned it up, any toothpaste residue, dried it, recharged it, but still nothing. So I will go through your video to repair it. It might also be the battery that needs replacing, who knows. Also there is a gap next to the magnetic rotor that has to be not too close or too far to work right. You sound Russian. The best fixes are by Russians. Love them! Russia is also a magnificent place to visit, some of the world's greatest art treasures, sweeping landscapes, a fantastic rail system, great food, great handicrafts. They are the best artisans, engineers, athletes, artists, dancers, composers. What an amazing country.

      Hi, yes if you have water damage you need to take off the motherboard from its frame and inspect all the traces from both sides as shown in video. I have few videos specifically for water damage repair, check them out. Battery is usually fine it could need an external charge if it's to deeply discharged but should be ok. Russia is our neighbour I'm from Lithuania :) and these languages are very different but for some reasson we have a "russian" accent in English language :) Russia is a beautiful country, with nice people, sadly not that good management.. hopefully that will change..

These other viewers are right. the fuse must come loose over time because when i applied down force to the fuse, it kicked on! It must pop up as a common issue with this toothbursh. I thank you for your guidance and for this video! God bless!!

      Could be something more, needs inspection, if you don't have experience you can buy another brush and compare the electronic side by side to see if something else is misbehaving..

      Desolder everything including charging coil pins. then cut off or press with pliers the plastic pins that go through board and it should come off easily..

    In case the battery is fully charged (measured by multimeter) but toothbrush doesn't turn on and vibrates 3 times to signal that battery should be charged. What you can do is cleaning battery connectors with contact spray. Then if still not working you can also reset the toothbrush by pluging the charger and put toothbrush on it then press power button for 2s with thé following sequence going : 1 beep 2 beeps 3 beeps then release and you should hear a melody. For me it fixed my issue after cleaning + resetting my sonycare. PS : huge thanks to the owner of this channel for the content quality.

    • @letsfixitgarage
      @letsfixitgarage Месяц назад

      holding power button on the charger has other settings like activating //deactivating pressure sensor or cleaning head replacement indication.. not sure if there is a "reset" by pressing the button.. and for the contact cleaning.. battery is spot welded and other side is soldered it.. it shouldnt affect the toothbrush unless the leg has coroded away from the battery in that case it needs to get rewelded.. cleaning with alcohol is good but if you had water damage you need to dissasemble it completelly inspect for damage on the backside of the motherboard inspect the battery terminals and of course replace the rubber seal.. or the problem will return..

    Thanks for this useful video. Unfortunately I think a nearby lightning strike has caused a pulse in the charging coil strong enough to fry the charging circuit, because the brush will now blink its charging light once or twice and then ‘crash.’ The charging light stays off or on until I push the button. The brush itself still works. Perhaps I can hack together a way to charge it via USB, but I think I'll just buy a new one and keep this one for spares… and put the new one in a metal box when there's another storm.

    • @alexanderthomas2660
      @alexanderthomas2660 Месяц назад

      Well, I was about to hack this thing to make it chargeable via USB, and I tested it once more, and surprise: it works again! Must have been a polyfuse that took a long time to reset after the surge. So, if your toothbrush behaves like I described above, don't panic and wait a few days, it might ‘heal’ by itself.
