SUPER!! Underwood 45 Super 230gr JHP Gel Test
You have answered a lot of my questions. Thanks for putting this together ❤️
I use #4 alot
Speer Gold Dot is half the price of Controlled Chaos! They are both excellent ammo products, so why waste money?
Awesome video on the creators end great detail of explanation. However I feel these extreme defenders aren’t good enough to swap out my HST, and Gold Dots. 200g 45 acp +p gold dots expand way more violently
also liberty civil defense of course which I believe is the absolute most violent round on the civilian market. I’m speaking from experience unfortunately. I’ve been shot with them and seen what they do. Like a shotgun blast from a pistol
People are much “ softer” then ballistic gelatin. And there are different densities of the gel also. A shot gun at home defense range, is going to remove major portions of a human body.
To consider the fbi as smart, makes me seriously doubt you.
The Sabor Black tip ammo from AAC would be best used for small game animals, I would not use it for self-defense unless it was the only ammo I had on hand. The round does an excellent job as a coyote slayer.
I liked and subcribed when he started using tape measure. My ocd thanks you greatly.
The FBI standard takes into account a side shot through an arm; that involvea a large bone and at least one rib... never rely on one shot... read the comments from people who have been involved in shootings and or were first responders... all 12 GA is deadly. You should be careful of your "legal" opinions about penetration or shooting effectiveness. Do the shoot, show the real results and then let us decide what will satisfy our needs. And how many times you been in a shootout?
Bystanders and innocents are inadvertently shot all the time. Very little of that has to do with penetration, but the mere presence of the gunfire itself. I’ve seen it many times. Anything above 9mm is going to grow through walls, intermediate barriers, etc.
@@timothycummins2700 got any articles or anything talking about those bystanders being shot? Or just your own word?
I prefer the #4 from experience
This is 2 years past the date but we have seen people and store windows, cars, hit by bullets that passed through a drug dealer in shootouts.
There is NO BEST.......at 5 yards its all deadly....even #9 birdshot.
So much for " nitrogen filled", huh. Thanks for doing the leg work for us !
Yep, so professional
1165 fps for #4 buckshot, that is slow, no wonder why you only got 10.5" of penetration. Federal has a 2-3/4" #4 buck, 27 pellets at 1,325 fps. There is no need for 'special' home defense shotgun ammo especially at the 9' - 30' of a typical home defense range. Also, if you are going to shoot a 00 buck load for home defense why buy 9 pellet shells? Federal Premium has a 12 ga 2-3/4" 00 buck 12 pellet at 1,290 fps, three more pellets for free: heck yeah. I wrote this as a comment for another video, however the info sound: The #4 buckshot will produce more multisystem trauma (MST). When attempting to incapacitate an attacker we want to disrupt as many bodily systems critical for fighting back and for life. The #4 buck with its 8-12" pattern at both 10 ft and 25 ft respectively is going to make 27 holes(# of 0.24" pellets in a 2-3/4" 12 ga shell) in both lungs causing loss of gas exchange i.e. O2 cannot get into the blood and CO2 cannot be expelled and massive hemorrhage of the large pulmonary veins and arteries. That same spread will also cause massive hemorrhage of the major blood vessels in the center of the chest: the ascending and descending aorta and the superior and inferior vena cava. With massive hemorrhage blood pressure plumets and the brain does not get blood... lights out. That 8-12" spread also will hit highly vascular organs: in addition to the aforementioned lungs, the heart, and the superior/ medial aspects of both the liver and portal veins and the spleen, again causing major hemorrhage and including destruction of the organs themselves. If the structure of the heart is destroyed it is not pumping blood. If the phrenic nerve is damaged, the diaphragm does not contract and there is no inhalation i.e. no breathing. This does not even include osseous damage, the medullary cavity of bones is very vascular and #4 buckshot can certainly shatter the sternum, ribs, clavicle, scapula, and vertebra. If the spinal column is damaged motor nerve impulses are interrupted and the arms and legs will not function. Even one round of #4 buck to the center chest would cause devastating MST and cause the attacker to run and likely exsanguinate shortly thereafter. There is also less likelihood of #4 buck overpenetrating and exiting the home as would be common with 00 buckshot. If one is using a 3" 12 ga #4 buckshot there will be 41 pellets.......
Good video young man!! Well i used to be tough as nails could shoot a sawed off 12 gauge with buckshot one handed open carried 357/44/45/9mm conceal carry for several year's 2 weeks ago shot 3 rounds out of my 9mm damn near dropped the gun my arthritic hands got so bad they decided I'd carry a 22lr from now on cause I've been shootin since 6 year's old now 70 so sometimes you don't really have a choice what you carry. Thanks for sharing
Look up the video of the cop that jumped passed 3-4 other officers with pistols because he wanted to use his duty rifle so bad. Ended up going through the suspect, through a fitting room, and into a little girl killing her. Probably running that 75 grain everyone swears by. 55grain VMax. End of discussion
Why didn't you add layers of material in front of the gel block?
Good test and solid logic on the over penetration thoughts, but that first load is just fine too IMHO. The annals of history are not riddled with people surviving close quarter shotgun blasts of any ammunition
All of them will work ‘ people are not that tuff.
All of these bullets expand almost instantly. The faster bullets don’t expand “quicker”. They may expand wider, that factor varies. The heavier bullet will penetrate more due to greater mass.
Paul Harrell tested number#4 some of the pellets stopped by the rib cage on the front of the target. So bad guy with his hands up shooting a pistol or in a fighting stance with his forearms in front of his body and clothing on both sides of his forearms and then clothing covering the body and then ribs and sternum and maybe arm bone (humorous bone). This is why the FBI says 12 to 18 inches and if you look at their ammo selections they lean toward the deeper side of penetration. Most police departments use double 00. military likes double 00. Or you could just shoot him some more the first one doesn't work
I'm here because I have their handguard for the past 3 years, not a single problem, so let's see what the clone is like
Any repeating or even double bbl shotgun in any gauge (even 410) with any reasonable load will far surpass any 9mm or any 5.56 load. 5.56 was adopted for an area fire wounding weapon to get accuracy by volume to keep peoples heads down or wound them and take them out of the fight. Killing and instant incapacitation was seen as optional. The men walking point in the jungle where things could get really ugly real fast up close almost ALWAYS carried a 12 bore with flechettes, #4 or 00 buck. The Gremans in WW1 feared the 12ga pump "trench broom" so much they tried to get the Geneva Convention to ban it, and told us that any man caught with one would never be taken prisoner. It was found to be more effective than a sub machine gun at trench range. Even a Thompson was preferred by many over the M16 if available. The M16 was adopted on the theory that wounding was more detrimental to an enemy force due to it's taking several guys to care for the wounded. It has hasca historicaly bad reputation for STOPPING somethin determined, even with multiple shots AND with modern bullets. It's not legal to hunt Bambi with, yet, I'm supposed to rely on a mediocre varmint cartridge to instantly incapacite or TURN an armed 230lb drugged, attacker that has the drop on me? In my mind, that 30 rd mag is filled with over-penetrating false security. I have seen it in unethical hog hunts. Cops have a shotgun for a reason, they may engage a perp at much longer ranges behind barriers and so, prefer 00 buck and slug (still the best choices, #4bk second, there is also #1 buck.) When a shot is fired, people start moving and do not stand there for a mag dump from an AR while you are trying to get an INCAPACITATING, or behavior modification shot to allow YOU to get off the X and escape their rounds. I have shot MANY different calibers at many different targets, both living and not for 40 years as a handloader on a farm with my own shooting range, in my opinion, the 5.56 hits at a velocity fast just enough to escape being felt, but too slow to switch off the nervous system like a .22-250 . Lower velocity rounds HURT as I have seen and from reports of gunshot victims. The consensus is that .45 HURTS like a mother, even more than a .357 mag. Impact force can disable nerves at a distance. This was a gunfighter trick, hit the opponent in the shoulder like a mack truck with that big, slow, .45 Colt that bludgeons its way thru and shut down his radial nerve from shock so he CAN'T pull the trigger. Anything else other than a headshot with any caliber will give the .01 second needed for them to shoot you. My grandfather was a marshall and ALWAYS had a Winchester model 12 in the cruiser in 1920's and '30s Chicago. and back in the day, people were paid to hunt timber wolves. His load of choice for wolf was 12ga #2 shot (not buck) buffered Remington Nitro Magnums. he was jumped by a wolf in deep cover, and at about 7 yards, it blew a hole in it you could put both fists in. He popped a shot at a Timber Wolf out of frustration at over 100 yards, and it went down like a ton of bricks, a freak shot. The #2 traveled up its nostril into its brain. My father used them as well and kept them in his Mossberg 590 for home defense. The face is a great target. BBs screw up stuff pretty bad also. I have seen too many dead things walking that did not even realize they were hit by several 9mm or 5.56. But I never saw anything not realize it had been hit by any 12bore load even at very long ranges. Killing ISN'T the point. It is about instant behavior modification, that's why many dangerous game guides carry a 12bore, to TURN the attack instantly, and buy precious time. We aren't hunting here, we're instantly unprovoking an attacker with a crap ton of energy delivered first shot from a simple, reliable tool that's probably been under the bed gathering dust for 20 years. 12ga shot pellets are a surgeon's nightmare and the future reprocussions of surviving a shotgun blast isn't lost on most people. When interviewed, convicted felons feared a 12 ga over any other weapon, especially if a woman was holding it because she isn't going to risk a discussion and WILL shoot you! Any shotgun load to the FACE will modify behavior RIGHT NOW, Any 12 ga load at close range from a full choke in center mass most likely will too, however I would never choose light birdshot for the pourpose. There's way more choices than bird and buck. However, the advice given here in the vid is good, at least #4 buck. However, there are upland game #6 and #4 shot 1-3/8 oz at 1500 fps 2-3/4" shells that dump 3010 ft lbs. In a full choke at thin walls, apartment distances, get a mop and bucket. Longer range body shot not so much, but they are almost gaurenteed to not be doing what they were before you pulled the trigger, especially if they take 50 or 100 pellets to the FACE. Accounts of someone or any animal walking thru a 12ga with any hot heavy load of any hunting shot at close range to eat your lunch are almost non existant. It has been proven over and over on videos that at 5 yards or so, against ballistics dummies, that shot size up to slug is basically irrelevant if a heavy enough charge is used.
I like to watch videos with my kids. I was trying to overlook the language, but taking the Lords name in vain I had to stop.
Haters in the comments gonna hate! Great video and insights
Wanted to ask if you’ve done testing on agüilla super extra 40gr,
Let’s not get hysterical about 1-1/2” of over-penetration. 90gr seems to be the sweet spot for this design.
I had a SD situation 2 years ago this month, 60gr vmax is what i had in my rifle, one shot is all it took and i wasnt breathing, seeing straight or processing the situation because or the speed of events, meaning i wasnt in the same skill set as when i practice. Terrifying and miserable to go though. The officers asked me what i used (handloads in 5.56mm 60gr vmax) and i told him 60gr vmax going pretty fast. He just said "Wow, thats gnarly". I was surprised gow supportive and happy for me they were. They were amazed what 1 shot did to the solar Plex.
My first shot is a one ounce slug. Should get good penetration from that. Then it will be 00 buckshot after that.
i dunno? this this test kinda made me feel comfortable as a home defense, great penetration through skin and clothes, low penetration through metal and wood ,
lol!
What about lead vs copper?
One thing I never understand is when people get like this they compare them and torture the aftermarket mag but never torture a factory mag.So you end up with a beat up mag compared to a clean factory mag.Do the same torture test on both you may be surprised.
Outward dimensions for 45 super are the same as 45 acp, but the case is thicker to handle more pressure
"Super - formance" not "Super Performance."
I am very late with this comment and can't believe no one else said this but at 3154 even full metal jacket is a varmint round.
Penetration equals incapacitaton...... you're picking fly shit out of pepper. That's great performance
The FBI standard. Is that something made by the Fumbling Bumbling Idiots?
The state of NY prohibited police from carrying hollow point ammo and put heavy triggers in their Glock pistols. The police shootings where full metal jacket ammo was used did go through the perp and injured and killed people. After losing multiple lawsuits bc of fmj ammo over penetrating, the state went back to hollow point ammo for police officers. But I do agree with you, that for most people overpentration is not going to be an issue. Those police shooting where on busy and crowded streets
You good balls keep shooting rifles at pistol distance and scratch your heads wondering why a light for caliber bullet doesn’t penetrate. Wtf?
What is the weight of the .177 BB's you used, and what is the weight of the .177 BB's that the FBI uses?
Brother test XRG 100gn vs the 90gn against car doors and gel.
Do a 9 major test Edit: Good review bub.
I carry the Xtreme Defender 68 gr +P Platinum in my LCP Max and the Xtreme Defender 90 gr +P Platinum for 9 mm. The 68 gr 9mm is for subcompact pistols, while the 90 grain is for standard pistols. The platinum coating prevents corrosion and reduces friction on the feeding ramp and barrel.
You shot this ammo from a 4.6” barrel and underwood tests from a 5” barrel. You don’t think this could be the reason this underperformed?
The penetration from federal is impressive. Considering that a bullet has more obstacles to overcome when piercing a real human torso compared to gel I think federal wins. Also penetrating through glass and other materials is easier with federal too. Speer is also really good just very rare and hard to find at times.
