    The square is meant to be pushed up to the edge of the bed. The hole spacing makes for equal distance between plants to keep them separate. It doesn’t need the full space when there’s no plants on the other side.

    • @HealthyFreshHomegrown
      @HealthyFreshHomegrown 12 дней назад

      Up to you how you do it. I don't want my plants right up to the edge of the bed, so that's why I do it the way I do it.

      It usually does that. Great way to tell how fat it's getting without having to remove soil from around the root like you sometimes have to do with carrots.

      You really need to experiment with it before you go on vacation. Really depends on how large you make the hole(s) in the lid and the temperature, soil and type of plants.

    This doesnt work as well as it seems as the hole gets blocked with the mud. And after a while water stops flowing

    • @HealthyFreshHomegrown
      @HealthyFreshHomegrown Месяц назад

      This really depends on your soil. Good soil with lots of organic matter shouldn't block the holes.

  • @VictimOfFat3

    You should really trim off those lower leaves before you plant the tomato so deep. They will rot under the soil and will increase the chance of disease

    • @HealthyFreshHomegrown
      @HealthyFreshHomegrown Месяц назад

      Yes, generally that's a good idea. But usually there is lots of organic matter in my soil anyways and I don't have problems with rot or disease.

      If you make the syrup it will only keep a few weeks in the fridge. My plan this year is to freeze the syrup (without the honey added) in ice cube trays and then take some out when we need it and mix it half and half with honey when thawed.

    Thanks for the video! Bookmarked. First time growing these, or any squash. Are we supposed to always wait until the vine dies back to harvest? I’ve got one around full size, based on the seed packet, and still 6-8 weeks til first frost.

    • @HealthyFreshHomegrown
      @HealthyFreshHomegrown 3 месяца назад

      You can harvest anytime, just make sure to do so before first frost. Leaving it on the vine longer may get you a bigger squash, but if the squash gets too old, it might not taste as good and the texture may be off.

    Duuude! I realized at the end that’s a spring mattress bed frame! That’s awesome! I’m currently using our old trampoline frame (basically put it together except for 3 pieces so it’s not a complete circle and I can get in and out) and I’m putting trellis netting around it where the net use to go and grow bags on the inside for plants to hopefully cover the whole thing! Way to upcycle!

    • @HealthyFreshHomegrown
      @HealthyFreshHomegrown 7 месяцев назад

      Yes it’s the old frame from my daughter’s crib. I used the other parts to make an A frame trellis for my squash and a regular trellis for my peas. Basically upcycling the whole crib other than the mattress.

    Can the liquid fertilizer be used in Southeast gardens? If not which type is best(we have tomatoes, purple hull peas, green beans and/or speckled butter beans…feed store had seeds mixed up lol, okra, squash, cucumbers, watermelon, cantaloupe, a couple rows of corn)? Thanks

    • @HealthyFreshHomegrown
      @HealthyFreshHomegrown 7 месяцев назад

      Yes you should be able to. Especially for your tomatoes when you transplant them. Also make sure your soil is well amended with compost. If it’s very hot and dry there you may also want to consider a leaf mulch on top to help conserve moisture - that will help feed your soil as well.

    • @lilmama4426
      @lilmama4426 7 месяцев назад

      @@HealthyFreshHomegrown Thank you so much for the info; I did order some liquid fertilizer after watching your video but it was going to take a while to get here so in the meantime we were able to acquire some cow manure & have access to horse manure if needed (a lot of the old farmers around here use manure as fertilizer & end up growing the prettiest, most delicious vegetables…esp tomatoes 😋). I hope it won’t disturb or cause any injury the plants, i crumbled some around each plant and then watered; fingers crossed they will be ok. I need to learn the best way to compost since we recently moved to a very rural area with lots of room for a compost pile or whatever it’s called. Thanks again, I really appreciate the video & advice!!🤩

    • @HealthyFreshHomegrown
      @HealthyFreshHomegrown 7 месяцев назад

      @lilmama4426 great! As for the manure always make sure it is not fresh as that can burn your plants. Sprinkling it around the plants should be fine even if it wasn’t fully composted. And yes, definitely start your own compost when you can. 😊

    Can any home grown roses be used?

    • @HealthyFreshHomegrown
      @HealthyFreshHomegrown 8 месяцев назад

      Yes, but only if the roses have not been sprayed with any chemical fungicides or pesticides. And you will need to experiment with the taste - some roses will make a tastier tea than others. At this point I really only have one rose that I make tea from. I've tried some of my other varieties but the tea didn't taste that great. I would harvest one rose from each bush, dry them (it should only take a day in hot, dry weather) and then brew a cup from each, keeping track of which one is which. Then do a taste test to see which one you prefer.
