Days 72 to 85: Oslo to Belfast (17,572 km since leaving Belfast)
We're homeward bound, covering over 3,400 km in the last 13 days of our trip.
We accidentally joined a swarm of unruly, young motorcyclists, but resisted the temptation to follow their example :)
In Amsterdam we hired a tandem to "blend in", but "blend in" we most certainly didn't!
Running down sand dunes takes me back, more years than I care to remember.
A lake swim between main course and dessert is a first for me.
Finally, what did we get up to on our non-riding day in Vik? Practicing for a Guinness World Record attempt ... fastest circumnavigation of a BMW R1300GS walking on my hands (with legs supported).
For the whole trip, the daily average cost of fuel was £17.71 (total £1,505), food wa...

This was another part of our trip that we had been really looking forward to. We had visited Oslo a couple of times before, but had never seen the fjords on the west coast of Norway. Hi and thanks for sharing your Norwegian adventure videos. Very enjoyable (even for one from Norway). About your helmets: could you please share information about the helmets (brand and type) and how they functioned in the Norwegian climate? In general, how the riding gear and accessories worked is also interesting. Maybe a topic for a separate vido? Yours sincerely Jan

    • @mournesrambler
      @mournesrambler Месяц назад

      Hi Jan, they are Shoei Neotec 2 helmets with built in Sena intercom units (SRL2) and they worked very well for us on the whole trip, including Norway. The very efficient windscreen on the R1300 meant I can have the visor open a couple of centimetres, which gives good ventilation. We also used the vent on the top and on the chin in the very hot countries (Greece was up to 39 degrees Celsius). There is an earlier video in the playlist which describes all the things we brought with us, including the mesh jackets and down jackets. However, I think it is a good idea to do a review of what we have learned about that when we get home. One of the things that I didn't mention in that earlier video that I found very good in the far north was a merino wool base layer.

    • @60_Degrees_North_MC_Rider
      @60_Degrees_North_MC_Rider Месяц назад

      @@mournesrambler Hi and thank you for your swift reply. I tried the Shoei Neotec 2 both last Summer and this Summer, but the helmet does not seem to fit my head very well. I also tried the Neotech 3 this Summer with the same results and ended up with an HJC helmet instead! I like the looks of the Neotech 2 so I suppose I need to try it again! And thank you for informing about a previous video made about the gear, I will check for it! Merino wool long sleeve “t-shirts” and “longs” are a must when you live in Norway and ride as long as the ice on the roads are not too thick or uneven. It isolate and breaths much better than fleece. We are very glad to have met you today, on our way between Rome and Naples. We wish you a happy and pleasant further journey, nice weather, lots of nice experiences and, of course, the fulfillment of your goal. If your journey ever brings you to Munich, we are looking forward to hosting you and maybe taking a tour through Bayern. 🏍️ Best regards, Darko and Alex
