Trying Out the Morimoto MK5 Supra Heritage-Style Tail Lights (Plug and Play!)
THANKS @Supra_shy for RUINING the intro lol
EDIT: If you unplug the blue plug into the black plug on the tail lights, it will do a startup sequence.
__________
First things first, thank you to Morimoto for sending these tail lights over to me to install and review. I have always been a fan of their products since my Subaru days so when the opportunity came up to install their new tail lights on my car, I had to jump on it.
This video will cover the entire installation process of the tail lights, from removing the bumpers and plugging in the lights. These are completely plug and play so you won't have to tap into any wiring to make them work. Super bright and pairs really nicely with the OEM 4...

Probably the best car that I have personally owned! One thing I did forget to mention in the video is I changed the exhaust from the RK Titanium Signature single exit to the AWE Touring exhaust. Put Some Respek on Her Name - Dorothy's V8 Spanker MK5 Supra || Supra Build Series Pt. 14
New favorite road trip series right here!
Love this channel! Let’s go
Hi i have a 2020 supra and looking to tune it bm3 do i need a bench unlock or can i just plug and play?
You will still need to have it bench unlocked, but you don't need to send it out to Femto.
@VinceChristmastree thanks a ton
Bro take that black thing off the roof poor Supra 😭
Nah I’m good
I want one but I’m 6’3 and wasn’t as comfortable for me. Hopefully one day I get a R35 and I’m a ex Evo owner so I get it. Try Motul oil
Not trying to be rude but the only thing on this list that is specific to the Supra is the steering wheel upgrade…..
No offense taken. I chose this because I have other Supra-specific "must have" videos on the channel, but after doing some thinking, if I had to absolutely just choose 3 or 4, it would be these. Anything to save someone else from any future headaches.
Damn they look so good at night.
They're stupid bright lol
Rk titanium has got such a good note
Yeah it's pretty intense
Very nice build Those tires are sketch to use in the rain I daily drove those tires for years on my supercharged Camaro
Not sure how you fit your massive balls in the Camaro lol
Was great seeing the DFW community show up and had a great time. Saw ya on Christmas Vince driving on the Bush! Car sounded amazing! Definitely was a fun surprise to end the day. If you ever want to shoot some rollers my DJI and Nikon's are always available, thanks again for including me.
Thanks Chris and appreciate you coming out!
😂 Performance wise you CAN’T compare this car against R35 or Corvette Z06. I get it you like your car and are a huge fan of the platform but come on.. don’t feed us BS. We got the politicians for that!
I can compare it because that's what I was cross shopping this car with, everyone is entitled to their opinion lol No BS here, lots of other people who were in the same shoes as me have said the same. R35 is too dated and as badass as the C7Z is, the overall package in my opinion is inferior to the Supra. I'm not talking about just strictly performance. Interior quality and tech of the Supra is superior to the Corvette.
First mod is must best investment ever! Well worth it!
That's why I had to put it first!
@ glad I did mine! My suggestion just do the whole car ik it’s expensive but damn worth it!
@@bman1668 Agreed!
Thinking about moving on to the Supra platform from Subie also
Do it, you won't look back. I do miss my Subarus, but not as much.
Luv the sweater! How can we all get one?

38k mi since feb 2020 ownership here..e50 botti tune, dp...only issue was replacing the starter at like 32k miles which was super random, but i daily the car and love every second of it. your build is goals bro lol
Heck yeah man. That's the perfect street build right there. Hopefully no issues with the new starter? So weird. Appreciate it! Love driving the car even after so many miles.
Great video Vince! I’ve been waiting for a comparison like this! I went from a A91 Supra MT to a ZL1 6 spd and now considering a 6spd 718 Spyder (gt4 vert). The one I’m considering also has a soul performance exhaust, sounds amazing . It’s a weird mixture of cars but loved the Supra, got a great offer on the a91 mt and got into the ZL1, never experienced American muscle before. I’m at the stage where either I modify the ZL1 and get 800 whp or get into another car 718 Spyder!
Thanks for watching Armin! How do you compare going from the Supra to the ZL1? I drove an SS a while back and it just seemed so big. I think if you really liked the Supra experience, this would be the next step up. Had an amazing time driving Kelvin's GT4!
Hideous.
They're not for everybody and that's fine
My favorite aftermarket tails have to be the Valenti
Have yet to see one in person!
love it.
Thank you!
All to guys can afford a supra but won't can't be seen in a 1k beater to keep the miless off your prize possession is funny to me.
Some of us buy our cars to drive regardless of the cost lol
Morimoto makes great lighting products! Personally not a fan of the "rings" lighting style. I wish they would've kept classic illumination pattern and globe 3-D circles. For ex (Pass Side Circles Left to Right. 1-2-3-4) When "on".Circles 1-off. (white/reverse only?), 2-solid red, 3-solid red, 4-off (amber turn signal only). When braking, circles 2-3 illuminate brighter for braking. IMO, that would be considered "heritage" style. Either way, I can respect the style if people like the "rings" style running lights. Thumbs up for great quality video regardless!
Yeah I mentioned on another comment that if we were to just look at the functionality side of the tail lights, then Orion is probably the closest to that. Not enough people run aftermarket tail lights here in DFW that I know of because it would be cool to do a side-by-side with all aftermarket tail lights and a MK4 Supra.
@ ahhh yes. Exactly! Orion is on the right track. If they would add a clear or smoked lens cover to seal all that up, it would be dope 🫡
I just brought a used 2021 gr supra last night. Had to go out of state since everything in California is set at ripoff prices.
Congrats!
Is PI necessary for 600hp? The guys at ces said you can swap out the stock turbo and run pump and e30 on stock fueling
They're technically right. Aftermarket turbo will give you more head room to increase power, but I recommend adding PI so you're not going to be short on fueling.
@VinceChristmastree ughhh guess I'll just future proofing with motiv was trying to save some money 😭
Looks way better than oem
They're growing on me!
I paid for the pee pee all over the front end but couldn’t afford the ef.
At least you got the pee pee
They should've copied the exact color combo like the previous Supra. Ambers on the outside and 2 reds in the middle with the reverse lights on the inside
OEMPlusMods has something kind of like that. Doesn't have the reverse lights though. The closest are the Orions, but they don't have a lens that covers the tail lights like the Morimoto and every other 3rd party offering.
Dope!
Thanks my dude!
Pretty much following your advice! Got ppf, a Viofo 229 pro dash cam. Need a r7 asap, i got pulled over already 😂
LOL yeah get one of those bro
Why is it not yet possible to drop in the euro tail lights and have functioning AMBER / YELLOW turn signals
@@y00h000 it is, but you have to connect an extra wire from taillights to module
Coming soon :)
OEMs over any aftermarket so far by a long shot
Toyota did an amazing job designing them!
I'm so on the fence if I want to get aftermarket tails for my Supra. The original just works well for some reason.
Love the OEM design, just fits the lines of the car so well.
Hey :) A very cool and informative video you made there, i was just thinking to watch the 3 years video when this one popped up 😂 In the last couple weeks i'm really starting to think that the supra is a car that i might enjoy, i searched for r35 etc. too, and i kinda just getting pulled to the supra more...have even looked at 3 different ones at the local toyota dealers (which where making astonishingly good prices, talking around 58k € for a slightly used one with 9k kilometers on the clock) Do you or anyone have quick tips what to look for when at the dealer, or private seller? Would appreciate that, hope you and everyone has a good calm few days :)
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! Wow, that's actually a great price. If it's bone stock, then you're set. Here's a buyer's video that I made a while ago so you know what to look out for: ruclips.net/video/4p56g0B8hz0/видео.html
The heritage ones are better. Start up sequence, sequential turning. These are kinda meh.
Different strokes for different folks! I didn't show it in the video, but if the blue wire is unplugged, it'll do a startup sequence (lights start from the center of the car and illuminate the lights until it gets to the end).
Is it true that aftermarket tails don’t last as long and/or often have issues than oem ones?
That's a great question. Not sure to be honest, we will find out lol
Can't wait to get a pair!!!
It'll make your car stand out more for sure!
What a pain. I have a Supra GR but came from an STI which only took 10 minutes to do the taillights since it didnt require taking off the bumper
So i came from a VA WRX before moving to the Supra, while i was installing a different tails the other day i made the same comment to my friend that was helping me. You don't have to remove the wheels for these but it's still a huge pita even without it.
Yeah GD/GR/VA STI tail lights is literally like 2 clips and 3 nuts and they come right off. I mentioned it even during the install that I wish it was easy like the Subarus lol. Too much shit to remove/move to do it.
@ yeah . One thing I miss about the STI was tons of easy /cheap mods
IMO I think Toyota did a great job with the stock tails. Very simple design and I like the way the LED path kinda flows with the lines of the bumper. These do look good too, but I feel they're bordering on a being little too busy with such limited space.
Design is still growing on me, but it's cool to mix it up a little bit. I'm a huge fan of the stock tail light design and the rear end of the car, hence why a ton of my thumbnails are a rear angle of my car lol
Looks crazy!!! Love it bro ❤️🔥
You already know!
They look good!
It's still growing on me! Thank you!
That's it. I'm cutting my credit cards so I don't get tempted
Lol lots of temptation in the car modding scene
how to install the dashcam any tips? hehe
Here's a video I made 2 years ago: ruclips.net/video/Vv7GXL8BgTc/видео.html
Appreciate the informative video! Saving this for when I get mine soon 👍🤝
Thanks for watching! Hoping you get one soon as well.
The Uniden R7 is a legend! I had it for a few years and loved it. I upgraded to an R8 thinking it would be better but I really dislike it and wish I had the R7 again... It's a MUST-BUY!
Just “upgraded” from the R7 to the R8. What do you not like about it? Uniden companion seems great.
@@fatal.b58 1) I don't like how difficult it is to remove when it's mounted to the blendmount. Due to the design of it (it's definitely more difficult to get your hands above the detector to remove vs the R7). #2), the volume/speaker for some reason is just not nearly as loud as the R7 was. FOr example, on level 6 in the R7, that thing was screaming at me... I almost have to ride with it on level 7 all the time in the R8 bc I can't hear it as well. #3) it has a delay that even Vortex noted in his reviews. FOr example, it never seems to know what direction the radar is in right when you get on it or just pass it. I also feel like the range was better in my R7. I'd gladly go back but I dont really wanna buy a used one and It's not worth buying retail at the moment. May wait until later to either see if I can trade into uniden or something.
Thanks for the feedback! Was thinking about possibly getting an R8, but the differences are pretty minimal. The R7 has been such a beast that it'll be hard to replace.
Gotta lose that creepy coffin on the roof . That is the weirdest “mod” .
Haha take your family with you everywhere you go.
Nah it's staying
hey vince! had my supra for almost two years. I haven’t bought a dash cam thinking I would need that black box.. have you had any issues with only going to one of the accessory fuses from your dash cam video? btw, love the car and content!!
If you want to use your dash cam like a security system of sorts, a la Ring cameras. You should get a battery box for sure. There are some homemade versions you could do. But without a proper battery backup you can’t just leave it on all the time. Maybe if you drive the car every single day and you give enough drive time for the car battery to recharge every day. But I for example leave the Supra in the garage up to a week at a time sometimes. If you keep it connected to a battery tender also maybe you can get away with it. But, I want a security system that captures movements when the car is parked (google parking mode for dash cams) and the ability to remotely log in and view the camera from anywhere. So these things kinda need a battery backup as well as a cellular connection. Edit; but if you only want it to record during actual driving time, you can def run it to an accessory powered fuse
@ yeah.. i’m really trying to figure out if I should do the black box but I don’t want to cough up the money 😂 I just bought the n7 and I think i’ll be plugging it straight to my mirror
Thanks Anthony! No issues with previous dash cam setup and so far so good with this one. Battery backup as previously mentioned is probably the absolute safest route to go, but the Viofo dash cams in particular have features where it'll only start recording if it detects something based on the accelerometer and you can have it record the last 1-5 minutes after turning the car off. The dash cam has a small battery to record any parking events, but I'm not sure how long it lasts. Hope that helps!
Damn. I just saw a Uniden R7 for $400
That's not too bad. Usually some good deals pop up on FB Marketplace.
Love the videos!!!😊
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching.
Vince, do the Thule PowerClicks clamp tight on the monkey bars?
Yup, no issues at all!
love ur vids!!!
Appreciate it!
Don’t you think an air-oil-separator kit (more specifically the Verus Engineering one) could be an essential to get too? Aren’t AOS systems suppose to increase long term reliability (especially in turbocharged cars)?
Not really needed on this platform IMO. I had the Forge Catch Can for example on my stock location turbo setup (stock and Pure 800) and it barely had anything for the 1-1.5 years I had it. I don't have scientific data for this though, just observations.
