This match pretty much showed us how talent is incomplete without discipline and decency. From being one set up and 2-0 in the second set, Martina Hingis went on to lose the match. And if that wasn't bad enough, she never got to win the French Open (the only singles GS title missing in her repertoire). Also, she appeared in the finals of 4 GS (singles) over the next 4 years), not winning any of them, before retiring at the age of 22. She did make two comebacks later but her days of singles dominance were long gone.

I love Hingis also, especially after her return in 2013-14.....She done a mistake in her early days but when she actually retired in 2017, she was number one doubles player in the world with 25 grand slams..... Steffi is all time best without any doubt.... She conquered 22 grand slams only at the age of 29.....at that age Serena only got 8 .... no comparison..... And in the last two grand slams in her career Steffi won one (this video) and became runners up in the other (actually injured during semifinal)..... True champion
