Luv the raga inspired meditations - on an L-series strat!! ... I've always wondered if Sandy was thereby reminding us that the true origins of the pentatonic scale-which Blues & Rock n’ Roll are both largely based on-originally made its way to West Africa from India - presumably via the Islamic slave trade.
Good guitar. Shame about the apalling singing, never was his strong point.
My favourite part is the faint singing in the left at 0:08
I still think about Su every so often.
Funny how you and me both, 5 days apart
Always Mersmer..
Every once so often I return to this piece and it never fails to switch my skin into goosebumps mode while my jaw drops to the floor.
And I found a magic man I bought a pound of magic and I kinda dream and plan Where you lay you hand I found a magic man Where is where it's at Jerome Where is there I want to go Where is where it's at Jerome Is it a place out there Just a town down there If you're driving slow Where is where it's at Jerome Maybe you can find Jerome Sits on top of a hill Overneath a hole If you're driving slow Maybe you can find Jerome Maybe you can find Jerome Lookin' around and see if you can spot Jerome Da-da-da-da-da-da-da Jerome
This was Pat Metheny before Pat! Every time I heard this I could imagine myself on an endless road trip, a la Kerouac or “Route 66” starring Maharis and Milner, off to discover America, before it all got ruined by Nixon. It still does that to me.
Considering this was recorded in 1964, this is probably the first complete psychedelic rock record.
Good lord, is this ever good! Was led to this because I was reading about David Lynch, which led me to Peter Ivers, which made me look up New Wave Theater, then finding Suburban Lawns and a pointer to this album. Now I am a huge fan. I love the internet when it does this kind of thing!
Too bad for Peter :\ then network thieves tried to turn his show into somethin' else, even tryna give it to Andy Kaufman after stealing his playhouse idea from him (e.g. Peewee) what shoulda rightfully been his and then HE went and dipped this world. Strange, huh? What next? New Wave Theater just sorta turns into Night Flight. Shame. RIP Peter Ivers.
Like David Lanz on steroids. Amazing!
I just visited Jerome Arizona, and was thinking of Sullivan and this song. You do have to drive slow, it's built on the side of a mountain like a Peruvian city!
So peculiar how he traverses different genres in a jammy and kinda ahead of his time way.
How could such a mesmerizing album cover fail?
The guitar wizardy of 6 string maestro John Renbourn. I was very fortunate to have met him a few times and see him play here in Toronto. He has influenced my playing like no other guitar player . True mastery.
This is so sick!
I met Jerome in early 2010. No joke. Not sure if it was the same Jerome though
Saw him live at Betty Nelson's farm, the 1968 Sky River Rock
What a talent.
Fantastic. Loved Suburban Lawns in the 80's, but now their superb musicianship is more clear than ever. This does remind me a little bit of Philip Glass - but in any case all of the members from band were very talented
<3
This man has been missing for a long time...back in the 70s while he was driving to Nashville to make his music 🎶🎼 his VW bus and guitar were left behind & he's never been located. He sure was talented though! This song is kinda eerie, like a premonition in a way. 🕊️
Absolutely astonishing stuff. Where has she been in my life? 40 years wasted
What a mesmerizing song 🌹✨
Great tune. Amazed I haven't heard of this guy before!
The song is beautiful. I already knew this song. But I hadn't heard it in decades. I heard it on The Serpent series, I fell in love again and it brought back wonderful memories.
Nice Gentle Giant pfp! Yes it is. Very good Psych Folk.
great album, best MR BOJANGLES I've ever heard.
Ethereal
Anybody knows how she is related to Silence of the Lambs film director Jonathan Demme?
I just made something about the disappearance of Connie Converse and Jim Sullivan and a UFO style vid I created to go with it for Jim Its my latest up load September 2021 if anyone wants to see it ? Thanks
cassette version available at savers.bigcartel.com
Ahhhhhhh......
It's a shame his case was never solved but without DNA & forensics, cops couldn't do much more than take people's word. His car being abandoned at that ranch is fishy to me, and it's owners just packing up & moving to Hawaii outta the blue is to!
Roses for Columbus He's found another land Oysters from the children Fall between their hands Roses for Columbus Who sleeps on virgin sands Flowers from the children Fall between their hands He lies upon the ocre sands And tells them what he saw To his health they drink his eastern rum And dance upon the shore And when there's silence And only the ocean sound He gently turns his bearded head "You know the worlds is round" Fingers full of eastern rings Pockets full of gold Open up his yellow map You'll find another fold Roses for Columbus Who sails with silk and lace Behind unknown horizons He'll find another face
Serpent anyone?
☝
Yes!!
So hypnotic, remember Cymbaline Pink Floyd's
Also pretty similar to "Green is the Colour"
Got the Album in 1967 - still play it. Didn't know how he died until now. Rest in Bliss, Sandy....
a favorite song of mine! absolutely beautiful and unlike anything i've heard before
Who came here after listening thus track on BBC's The Serpent?
Yo la escuché en La serpiente :)
Mee :)
Yo that’s crazy
Yep Netflix

The Serpent anyone?
one of the most beautiful pieces of music ive heard in my life. this needs a repress!
I'm hearing John Cage's Sonata V in this.
Where are you...Jim Sullivan
"Chocolate rain"...... Jk this is amazing and way better than Tay
i love sandy bull. he isnt like chuck berry. i dont think he likes poo.
im preachin thats all i do so you bitter klick like
yeah this could have been a hit for sure. whole album's something special
My Dad saw him play in a small club in Soho in 68. He sat and drank vodka with my Dad and they had a great friendship. To my Dad's last day,he wondered where his friend Jim Sullivan had gone.
Really
Hope they find him someday
There will never be an answer to his disappearance and I don’t think Jim woulda wanted it that way. That just adds to the mystery of this amazing man and amazing album. So cool your dad hung out with him. Thanks for sharing!
To me, as a non-native speaker, it sounded like "where is Ancient Rome ?"
Y'know I can see why, I can here it a bit 😁
Jerome is a old Ghost Town about 111 miles due North of Phoenix, Arizona. A mysterious place with a haunted hotel and lots of artist's galleries and studios.
@@josephbuckley1574 such a beautiful place we've been there many times!
@@josephbuckley1574 the old hotel is haunted also
As Joseph mentioned it is true that Jerome is an old Ghost Town Northern Arizona where they used to mine copper, I've been there several times and also did pest control in the old hotel that's haunted it is so beautiful you've got to see it. If I could sing I'd sing a song about Jerome too...
genius and died of heroin another gone
saw him on 67th street and 6th avenue back in the late 60s. said hi. he said hi back. wore out his albums over and over. he is still at the top of the rotation lo these many decades later. . . . totally the best ever!
the perfect recording doesnt exis-
