Its a good theme, it just doesnt fit THIS storyshift. It could work in any other sans vs chara game, But I just feel like this chara is supposed to be more of a serious person, and this theme doesnt really fit it.

The main issue with Flow’s track here is that Chara is intentionally made in Storyshift to be a misanthropic character. While in the original Undertale, Chara is playacting while simultaneously being a terrifying entity, this is supposed to be a mellowed out Chara in the sense that playacting no longer exists; they are instead melodramatic and actively impose their hatred upon other humans to the extent that Chara sees other humans (besides themselves) as animals. Here, we can make the comparison through RichaadEB’s Bad Apple translation which takes another choice of word usage, pointed out by Baeddel (Tumblr user): “Even within the midst of flowing time / look, indifference still goes round and round” which becomes, in RichaadEB’s version, “I continue circling / with nothing but my hate in a carousel of agony” cf. the “masked Cagliostro whirling in a hellish harlequinade” of Akhmatova.” While other translations of Bad Apple use indifference, RichaadEB uses Hate. It becomes an *active disregard* compared to a lack of regard which Storyshift Chara employs consistently to demean and mock the human through their words. For example, Storyshift Chara uses the term in the new canon version: “Quite a pushy human, aren’t you.” This is no question, but a clear statement of dehumanization. Chara does not identify as a human anymore, so they’re free to be as bigoted as they want. This bigotry fuels their power; granting them as much hatred as they need until the human in front of them is a corpse. That’s when they’re satisfied-the human body is already dead, but Chara cannot abide by this until they stop moving. The symbolic face must be desecrated until you see the Real (the face beneath your face-blood and guts!), and Chara will make that happen. This theme here has roots in more upbeat tracks. It is then harder for someone to capture Storyshift Chara’s hate depending on your musical style. Chara’s theme must be *emotional* (See, Double-Edged Blade by Saknol and Aider’s remix of it) or must be oppressive (See: PURE HATRED). With this in mind, Chara is also an outcast. They don’t particularly fit into their society (Remember, UNDERTALE and it’s associated AUs always take place after a Race War), and Chara is clearly antisocial. They’re the type of person to misread Nietzsche and come away with the idea that eugenics are actually *good*! But at the end of the Genocide that you will cause, Chara suddenly changes. I am reminded of Ray Brassier’s Nihil Unbound: “Hope is reactionary: it cocoons actuality in the gossamer of the tolerable, dulling the thirst for change. Despair is revolutionary: it grinds the knife-edge of the intolerable against the whetstone of actuality, sparking the will to change. Whoever tolerates the present will never risk everything to change it. Only those who realize they have no future left to lose will be willing to stake everything on the total transformation of the present; a transformation in which every envisageable future is abolished, the better to invite the facelessness of what will come. The only appropriate mode of thinking for a culture on the edge of extinction is the thinking that stimulates pain.” At the end when Chara has to fight the human, Chara’s misanthropy transforms. Their racist, prejudiced nature changes. No, it’s not all humans, they say to themselves. It’s that one, right there, representing all of the humans. Representing Chara themselves. This is why Mirror Match sets up such a depressing theme, where Chara sees themselves and reveals immediately that they are self-loathing. Mirror Match is about them seeing themselves in the human. And this theme, this song, refuses to go knee-deep into the waters of this hate and self-loathing. It stays ontop, ankles only, convinced that the song must just resemble a simple MEGALOVANIA that can be put onto anything and everything without second thought. Flow here is not untalented or a moron-Flow just didn’t engage in Chara’s hate. Finally, I am reminded of King’s Field: “I am completely disinterested in exterminating monsters.” This is Chara’s philosophy. The monsters, the ugly people, are beautiful. The ‘humans’ are the ugly ones. They see themselves as ugly. That’s Chara. That’s why people see this as disinteresting or mid-it is not raw. It is not the cutting edge of a blade. It is not the gnashing teeth of hate. It is not blearing eyes devoured in red. It is not the absolute, the apex-it is not Chara. It is not you walking down the barren hallways. It is not a Rhizome (A non-linear network), it is not power. It is not Chara desperately fighting against a human. It is not Chara fighting against their ideology while simultaneously affirming their hate. An example would be this: “An illusion can never be destroyed directly, and only by indirect means can it be radically removed… A direct attack only strengthens a person in his illusions, and at the same time embitters him.” - Søren Kierkegaard, The Point of View This is unfortunately, a huge miss. Mirror Match needs a whole rework. I hope Flow can turn it into a roaring nightmare that it deserves-and I know they can. Thank you for reading.

I swear, if someone says they prefer this over pure hatred. You can conclude they like TTT2 over TTT1, Any atheism besides atheism 2, and icicle ignition 1 to icicle ignition 2. In other words, they Hella tone deaf!

They need to make sure they're getting the right musician for the character. Flow isn't untalented, but they really don't understand how to make a fitting theme for SS Chara- an inherently edgy and intense character. They're better suited for someone like Papyrus or Science Sans, not this. Really hope Pure Hatred gets to be an alternate song choice.
