Sad Thematic Connection Between Andor & Rogue One
Hello! I rewatched Andor earlier this year and wanted to talk about a connection I noticed between the show and the movie Rogue One. Cassian and Jyn are actually much more alike than they care to admit.

Who Was This Guy Actually Selling To? - DJ's "Don't Join" Scene

    They could be selling Parts, but also being paid to Traffic completed Craft to both parties, so folks in the Republic pay them to diliver ships to who ever they are backing (Resistance or First Order), since they have the contacts (at both ends) and supply lines set-up they make extra Cash by selling additional Parts and other Supplies. RW example during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945) before the entry of the US in to WWII the Flying Tigers where officially Mercenaries in the employ of the Chinese Nationalist Government, the US Government supplied and Paid them under the table, to maintain the Fiction they where not American Forces Privet Companies did the work of supplying them taking cash from Uncle Sam for their trouble, those same companies also sold additional supplies to the Flying Tigers, the Nationalists, the Communists, Civilians, Third party Nations (some aligned with the Japanese) and by some accounts Chinese Collaborators and anyone else with the Coin or negotiable commodities. these companies made money hand over fist selling US made good to everyone and the Yanks turned a blind eye because they needed those supply lines open.

    Thankyou, good video. This was an element of bad writing in The Last Jedi. What was DJ’s message: “there are no good guys and bad guys - everyone’s ultimately a bad guy”? That flies in the face of the entire setting of Star Wars, where there are factions very deliberately written to be unambiguous bad guys, and those written to be flawed but ultimately heroic good guys. The First Order kidnaps children to make into soldiers, executes civilians, is bent on a bloody conquest of revenge and oppression, and also made and used a weapon of mass destruction in the last movie, for Christ’s sake! So this DJ guy was just full of cr*p, and it was utterly hollow writing.

    • @patricklee8088
      @patricklee8088 13 дней назад

      I think they were trying to make him a cynic who thinks he's more enlightened because he's a cynic. We all know that guy who thinks he's got it all figured out by thinking the worst of everyone and if you don't hold his views of the world, you're just a sheeple. That said, I agree, he was a terribly written character in a terribly written story.

    • @liamcullen3035
      @liamcullen3035 12 дней назад

      @@patricklee8088 Agreed. I think it was also intended to be a moral lesson for the audience, with idealistic Finn and Rose as stand-ins for the audience. But this was the wrong context for that lesson. Now, I’m all for moral lessons about the ambiguity of good and evil in many real world wars, but as previously mentioned, this is Star Wars, where that moral ambiguity doesn’t exist. That lesson makes sense in another movie - but made F’all sense in a movie where the villains are so cartoonishly evil.

    • @ArchiveRedacted
      @ArchiveRedacted 10 дней назад

      @@liamcullen3035 DJ was ultimately in the wrong though, as noted after he betrayed Finn & Rose and Finn told him "You're wrong". The inclusion of his philosophy in this movie is not an advocation for it overall in Star Wars, but rather as a counterpoint to Rose's take on corruption & war. DJ & Rose were functionally the angel & devil on Finn's shoulders, who at the time was weighing his role in the war. At that point, his only concern was ensuring Rey didn't return to a doomed fleet. Finn ultimately realized Rose was in the right, and that DJ's moral ambiguity & selfish neutrality was wrong.

    • @liamcullen3035
      @liamcullen3035 10 дней назад

      @@ArchiveRedacted That is not correct - I do like Andor, and here’s why. My problem is not with moral ambiguity itself; my problem was the directors (of Episode VIII) trying to impose moral ambiguity on a story that had been framed at the outset and throughout as morally unambiguous. My problem is with the incongruence. Andor (the show) is designed from the start as morally ambiguous. Andor the character is designed as morally grey and not the archetypal Star Wars hero. Risky choices, yes, but the show is consistent and well-written, making it very unique and a brilliant Star Wars story. I did not have the same interpretation of the DJ scene as you. Perhaps you are correct about the intent, but I think that intent was not effectively delivered. Perhaps it is a difficult thing to convey, and I shouldn’t begrudge the directors - but it came off tome as a ham-fisted message about war being bad, rather than an important step in Finn’s personal journey. It’s been a while since I watched the movie (and I’ve only seen it once), so perhaps I am getting details fuzzy and recalling things with a negative bias. Perhaps I will watch it again soon with this new frame, and see if I appreciate the scene better. But you’ve jogged my memory on something. Doesn’t Finn - later in the same movie - attempt to heroically sacrifice himself by flying a speeder into the jaws of a giant cannon? Why is that? Has he done a 180 on his doubts about the morality of The Resistance’s fight? Does he think he’s protecting Rey, or his new friend Rose? Is he just depressed and suicidal? What is your take on the intent of this? It seems like quite a dramatic whipsaw for his character.

    The owner of the ship sold weapons and resources to both sides so that no matter who wins, they will be treated more favorably. Chances are that they sold at a better rate to who they thought would win. War is a very profitable business. They knew who they were purchasing from, they just didn't care.

    • @aninass
      @aninass 15 дней назад

      @@ArchiveRedacted Thing is, before this new series, nightsisters being humans was widely accepted as canon, and some of the now canon star wars projects was built upon that foundation. They really retconned it and changed lore. In any case, Dathomirians were never Zabraks (a few of them were), let alone pure-blooded.

    • @ArchiveRedacted
      @ArchiveRedacted 14 дней назад

      @@aninass I'd never seen any sort of wide acceptance or acknowledgement that Nightsisters were humans. All sources I'd read defined them as Dathomirians (a subspecies of Zabrak), hence why I made a video discussing/questioning their origins. Nowhere has it said that they were humans, but in source books (The Visual Dictionary, 2017) it has said that they mingled with Zabraks that had migrated to the planet and were a subspecies of Zabraks. The Dathomirians could have originated as humans, but that isn't concrete in the Canon timeline. Furthermore, Dathomirians aren't explicitly stated to come from another galaxy, just that the Nightsisters of Dathomir can trace their origins to the Witch Kingdom of the Dathmiri from Peridea (where the Great Mothers of that kingdom shared the typical appearance of Nightsisters from Dathomir, which raises even more questions). Much of this lore still has room to grow and explain itself, but nothing has been codified, nor has anything been contradicted or retconned. Lastly, I made & uploaded this video before the Ahsoka show came out, and the lore has since been expanded on. Most of what I question in the video is still relevant, but had I made it after the Ahsoka release then I would have factored all of that in as well.

When the book said Skor served before Finis, I believe it just meant literally that Skor's term was before Finis', but not DIRECTLY before Finis. Finis Valorum was elected after Kirames, and then served two terms (well almost two terms anyway, because of the No Confidence vote). So it went Skor -> Kirames -> Finis.
