I think the front porch needs a railing of some sort around it, on the sides. Unless perhaps front landscaping will make it look different.

Love that color. Ours is sunflower yellow. Some people hate it but we like it. We were able to keep the door open for a few weeks so it wouldn't stick to the door weather stripping. (We have a lockable storm door and a big scary black dog. LOL)

Next time you're in Kingston, there is a market in the square behind city hall - antiques, and vintage as well and baking and vegetables. They say this is the oldest public market in Ontario est.1801. (they have a website with hours) Then lunch at Wooden Head for wood fired pizza. The Crystal Cottage is looking great!

I know it is a cost issue, but it is sad seeing that slate replaced with asphalt.

Was the cottage built with double brick initially ? Or was another layer of brick applied when the beer bottles were installed ? Dr Marquis , a relative , I'm assuming , of the original owners of the Marquis property , lived in that corner home until he passed . I was the VON visiting nurse that evening . His clinic was also in the same building. LOVE ALL the history with the maps . Very interesting . ❤

Interesting history. What is confusing is the change from #39 to #35. I am wondering how the style of this particular house fits into what else was being built around that time. Is the Bixel company the clue? Wasn't that beer company established around 1888? What a puzzle. How interesting. Great work!

The slate roof and copper was added by a previous owner J. SCULLY. around 2005 -2007. The slate was being removed from a historical house on Oxford St in Ingersoll. I had helped Scully move it from Ingersoll to Crystal Cottage

Amazing how the house was once so loved it received a copper and slate roof, only to be abandoned! Would love to learn more about the history of ownership on this place

Dan, I have a question. I've seen a lot of these "decorative" dormers, that arent open to the attic below. It seems to me you'd actually want to open those up for light and ventilation. Is there a reason it's not done? If you find one like that, is there a good reason not to open it to the space below? I'm curious to hear your answer.

You might want to consider getting a shoulder-strap-mounted camera holder gadget, so you don't have to use a hand just to hold the camera.

Wow, ‘brickies’ here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 always clean their sites up after they finish, there would have been drop cloths on the ground, everything would have been scraped clean and washed down with water.

It's going to look fantastic once the bricks are cleaned, it's hard to see how nice it is with all that black dirt on it. But really has been an improvement to get the damaged and missing bricks replaced, and the broken bottles replaced too. Looking good so far, long way to go yet.
