The Dove and the Heron

I've been sitting on this piece for a while. This was written in my 3 horns phase, where horns 1 and 2 would play together and horn 3 would be more soloistic. Anticipatory, the piece I wrote after this, had three horns for a while, too.
There was a story for this piece, too. The Dove and the Heron were two incompatible friends, with the Heron being passive and the Dove being more assertive. The Heron finally snaps in the big bassoon solo.
I wanted to write two more movements for this, one about each character. The one for the Dove, called cinnabar, would be a beautiful lydian...

Bro, you post so many orchestral pieces. Where in the world do you get your inspiration? You should get a gig and conduct a live orchestra. This is good stuff! :)
I'm glad you like my stuff! Conducting a big orchestra would definitely be my dream job! When I write something, I always have something to say. For my older music with lyrics this was straightforward, but orchestral stuff is a bit more nuanced in how I can say it. I also get inspiration from doodling around on the piano. Sometimes certain things sound amazing to me. For example, going from A down to E sounded really good, so I turned it into Clovers. For this piece, I loved the way Db resolved down to C. There's a lot of beauty in simple things, like the pink sky of dusk and roasted carrots. I find beauty in simple musical ideas and expand them the best I can into full pieces. I hope my rambling answered your question!
