Understanding that it was a full time job for even a good pilot to fly one of these magnificent aircraft … now throw in doing a low-level high speed bomb run, or dodging German fighter aircraft, or avoiding enemy anti-aircraft fire, you can just imagine how incredible the pilots were back in the 1940’s.
I was at this airshow and the display was freakin' awesome! Many people had tears in their eyes and grins a mile wide.
I flew in one of these,I couldn't believe how smooth it was. The sound of that Alison was unforgettable. ❤
That is the Virginia Beach Pungo Military Aviation Museum Airstrip.
The success of the Spitfire was due to ongoing development of an extraordinarily sound basis of airframe + engine. This is doubly true, and then some, of the mosquito. The Spit gets the Oscars red carpet for its grace. The Mossie? Every F1 podium!
It was. So fast and so light, , it carried no armaments and few could keep up let alone catch it.
wow
Lovely job!. Brilliant to see this elegant plane back in the air where she belongs!. 🙂
A close friend's father flew Mossies as a navigator, being transferred to a Pathfinder squadron after a tour on Wellingtons in which his plane suffered damage several times but, due to its immense strength, managed to get them home every time. His Mossie never even suffered a scratch in 2 tours. He always said that that plane saved his life.
only the British would put the landing gear handle to the right of the pilot when he has a control stick.
What a beauty !!! It seems that DCS did a good job! :)
I’m amazed anyone that flew these could still hear years later! Merlins were loud even by WWII standards. What music though!
The Hurricane was a nice extra!!
Awesome, all engine and NO music...
An elegent "warbird" for a more civilized age. Born just after WW2, the sight and sound of "classic" warbirds brings back childhood memories of staring out of my bedroom window, watching the "movements" at Hendon Aerodrome, prior to Jets replacing "REAL" aircraft.
Just magnificent...a real beauty
Imagined my Dad (Sqdr Leader DJT Sharp) escorting that Mosquito in his Hurricane ... beautiful
One of the most fabulous aircraft ever built. Period.
So, what does it cost for a ride?
as a german pilot.....the sound of a merlin on song was not a good sign.
A magnificent plane from the second world war. probably my favourite. An amazing insight and video. The Hurricane tagging along the icing on the cake, well done!!!
All credit to you all !!!
I am English, and very old. The sight and sound of these aircraft is music to my ears, and quite emotional too. I had an uncle who flew the Mosquito, as a”pathfinder”, to drop flares on the target before the bombers arrived, and to photograph the results of the raid. He survived the war.
Ditto. My uncles aircraft had 4 marlins but the sound is awesome with 2
I am Canadian. And very old. My dad, who came from a small town in North Ontario flew 2 tours in a Mossie. He flew in the Battle of Britain. He was a squadron leader and a DFC holder. He also was awarded a Caterpillar medal - the small medal given after a pilot’s life is saved by a parachute. I also get quite emotional watching this and my respect for what these brave young men did grows deeper every year. All the best from a Canadian friend.
Any person that get's to climb on board a Mosquito and go for a ride is one lucky individual. VERY VERY few people in the world today get to ride (or even more rare, actually take the controls and PILOT) in a Mosquito. There are only a few of these even airworthy in the entire world. Very lucky indeed. Although incredibly dangerous and at great peril to your own life, it must have been one hell of a thrill to fly this bad boy on sorties in WWII, especially for a young man just out of their teens or in their early 20's. de Havilland were at the top of their game when they built this.
I ❤ it.. awesome mate 👍🇳🇿✈️
Luckily for some! 👍✈️💵
That Hurricane would never have kept up with the Mosquito on an actual mission. Worthy Merlins, you can feel the power of their torque in your headphones 😊
What a formation! Amazing video 😮
Nice video! Good cockpit shots! Thanks!😊
I dunno man , pilot looks like he's playing with himself in the beginning there
What a wonderful video about an aircraft that had no equals during the Second World War. Than you for sharing.
What's the only sound better than a Merlin Yep , 2 Merlins Or , in my case , 6 Merlins , I had the B of B flight come right over the top of my house in England , Lancaster , Spitfire , & Hurricane ; Unbelievable ; I waved and they circled & came round again . Wow ; just WOW
Beautiful Beautiful plane you're so lucky to have one
Guy Gibson was eventually killed flying one of these superb aircraft on another dangerous low level op.Fantastic video and thanks for sharing.
Cosseted by two Merlin’s …. Bliss
What a Smooth & Sweet Sound to that Airplane. Thanks.
Man there's a lot of switches in that cockpit for 1 pilot
Awesome.
is that the original steering yolk as i seem to remember most mosquitos had the w shape steering wheel type?
one of the greatest clips ive seen
Good Job.
A beautiful sight, thanks for the video 🙂
Awesome plane. Cheers from NZ.
SO jealous of Warren!
And that is a taste of the aircraft based at Virginia Beach Military Air Museum. Warbirds Over the Beach is well worth the visit. Tons of flying and close proximity as well.
You would not believe how envious I am.
When the hell are the British going to stop about ww2 and build something new for once for crying out loud?
Absolutly great. A cool man in a fantastic plane. Thanks for sharing. :)
What a truly beautiful aircraft and the sound of the two Merlin’s engines is something else. The reason they were mainly built of wood is because the aluminium was becoming scarce due to the war effort, but that wasn’t the only thing built of wood. The vampire jet was also built of wood. Regards John
Was this around Hamilton, Ontario?
