My ASL journey has been like the movie Avatar, bird, combine hairs, eyes grow, trip over the thread of deafness through my life I didn't realize was there, hard of hearing parents, age 9 school mainstreamed me that year, I was oblivious to it all, having all that floooood in at once, now, have Deaf coworkers, learn ASL 33 months up-to-now, it's become a part of me, inseparable, still learning, always, thaaaat~

    Oh, that's what's causing what I see.

I understand this, looking at my own expressive signing, I see where and how to improve. But, my ASL receptive is slow learning, maybe will improve in Spring class with Deaf teacher. I'm very expressive, but looking at it, suggests that I am mostly just communicating with myself.

This applies directly to signing efficiency, flow. It's how to read Deaf movements at all, all together, too much of the meaning itself is in the flow, it can't be slowed down, partitioned, the meaning itself is lost, and that's the challenge with receptive.

Trust comes from following the true definition of respect, adopting what people decide about themselves, letting go of decisions made about others, and not imposing on people, it's just as simple as that~

At one point in learning ASL, I translated all my scratches-in-forehead into sign, and had a really good cry, as sign is so intrinsically connected to emotion. Also, emotion can help a new signer become more fluent by channeling it into expressiveness. Another thing I realized was of the several people in my childhood who tried to hurt me, there were easily a thousand others in those very same moments who had obliviously saved my life, and certainly a few who noticed and rescued me.
