The Yashica Lynx 5000E - Why Spiderman Bought the Wrong Yashica
Просмотров 5763 месяца назад
Ever since Spiderman/Peter Parker used an Electo 35 in 2012's The Amazing Spiderman they have been much sought after, but did Spiderman pick the right Yashica rangefinder? I'd argue not, let's look at why the Lynx 5000E is, in my view, the better Yashica rangefinder from that era. Phoenix Harman & Vivitar 35EE - Double Review

Phoenix Harman & Vivitar 35EE - Double Review
Was handed one of these in photography class in high school. It was the first SLR I had ever seen, let alone used. Was technological magic to this former Instamatic user. So, will forever be in my mind the quintessential SLR.
What's with that blue?
Nice films and camera review. I've always liked Gold 200 for colours and grain. I haven't used Phoenix but have viewed many shots taken by others. It reminds me of the free film you used to get from Tudor processing and find the look a bit harsh (I can't think of another way to describe it). Great shots. Keith
I was also now in Portugal. Absolutely beautiful country, will definitely come back. Took a Pentax Espio with me and that thing broke after half a role 🫠
Damn, sorry to hear that, at least you got to enjoy Portugal.
Yeah, I mean, old things can break but I loved the simplicity of this camera. Thankfully, it was not the only one I had with me because you know that it can break. Hopefully the few images I took with that camera turned out to be ok. Have not yet had the chance to develop them.
My very first SLR camera, way back in the late 70's. My first camera though was also a Kodak, but a 110.
Great video !
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for you interesting video of the Ftb. I could get one black Ql Version (P-code = 1975) with a FD 35mm f3.5 (very sharp!) and I am happy with this massive piece of metal!
sir i have one
I recently bought a Canon Pellix camera with a 50mm f1.4 radioactive lens in impeccable condition, with a leather case, at a very good price. First version 1964-1965.
Great video and your captures are brilliant! Subbed, waiting for the workflow video Gideon!👍
Good news - It's already done, hope you find it interesting: ruclips.net/video/stO476TUSPA/видео.html
the Leica d lux 2 is a rebranded Lumix lx2 10mp not a lx1
I've never been to the Algarve or anywhere else in Portugal, but it does look very photogenic. Great shots!. ps: the shot looking down on the beach hut makes the sea look quite treacherous and scary!
Thanks, the currents are pretty strong along that coast, so your observation is spot on.
I think the manual mode is similar on other Canon cameras with shutter priority. It is intended for special uses, not for fast shooting.
And if you want to shoot fast in manual? Given how right Canon got it on F-series cameras, it's a clear negative (for me) on an otherwise excellent camera.
Re the shutter lock, don't wind on the film until you need to it puts strain on the springs, Similarly don't play with the controls, the string works perfectly well until you start whipping the aperture to and fro.
ROWI had one exactly the same.......
Hi there Gideon, Thanks for your video. I'm in the process of de-cluttering my parents' home (in Sydney, Aus) and found my father had the Nikon F 601 camera. It's been apparently sitting in a cupboard since 2012. I have found your video very helpful in learning more about it! Now to get a new battery and to try it out!
I really liked the depth of field preview feature alot.
That was my first SLR. I bought it new in the 70's. It was a workhorse that took excellent photos. Unfortunately it broke in the 90s, and I tried to fix it myself. Bad choice. 😢. Tks for the memories.
not so clear. I have same type a little bigger Paterson. How you do it? I understand the one that reads straight on the paper level so you can correct it but this one is abot 4 inch high from the table. How you do it?
Handle those battery holder trays with care - they are fragile and tend to disintegrate. The camera will work without the tray as long as you can keep the batteries apart and secure.
Those Pentax 110 Lenses show how small Lenses for the MTF digital Olympus/OM System and Panasonic cameras should/could have been !!! I have the first version of the Minolta 110 Zoom SLR camera, which looks a bit weird.
You can order the film from Lomography themselves, usually most types in stock. Nice camera to get hold of. These and the Minolta 110 zoom SLR are the only properly decent 110 cameras . That being said I have lots of 110 cameras for nostalgic reasons
Agreed, you got a nice bargain there. I picked up one of these cameras as a charity shop find a few years ago, think I paid about £10 if memory serves me well. Keep promising myself to get some 110 film but still not done it to date. On the strength of your results I might have to take the plunge 😉
Nice one
Very nice package, A film m43 setup❤
It sure is
Muahahahahahahahaha! It is sooo small. cute even. Congratulations!
A bit late to the video but recently picked up a F601 that included a Tokina AF 20-35mm f/3.5-4.5 lens for just $55 AUD. Watching this video makes me extremely excited to start shooting with this!
Get to the point... your sale tactics is absolete
Oooh, did waiting a whole 3 mins require too much attention...
Great review. Thanks for the information. I have this camera and agree that the lens is incredibly sharp. It's a perfect little digicam to pop in a pocket and take everywhere.
As much as I love the look of "old" vintage all metal cameras the AF is so convenient on my F70 😂 and produces beautiful photos. The ergonomics of that form factor is so comfy cupped in my hands as well.
I also paid about $30 for my F70 which I believe is a steal for a film camera. The new Kodak half frames are $60 🤣
If still have my good old 5D, if only the mirror had not fallen apart it would still have been in use as well.
1) Yes, older models, like my dad's SRT303b doesn't have a mirror lock up leaver. As I was a kid I watched him unboxing that thing btw. Those early models used some very wide lenses (15mm comes to mind) that had protruding elements, and where sold with separate viewfinder; that's what mirror lock up was for. 2) I never liked MC lenses, course back in the day I was a big slide film user, and those lenses are giving some kind of greenish yellow tint compared to other brands and even MD series of lenses, what was quite bad if combined with Kodak's Ektachrome film in perticular...
The mode selector on my copy is quite loose, so you gotta have dust or crusted oil or both under it. I've bought mine back in the day new, and (over)used it professionally, so much so, that I had to replace the shutter. Given that the camera had guarantee for 150000 actuations, that's over 4000 rolls of film that run thru that camera!!! And the damn thing is still working...
Thank you. Mine is an older 1, a FT QL that uses FL lenses. Stop down metering is very accurate
I had a Fuji S3 camera which I used for professional wedding photography. At the time, that camera was SURELY the best choice to make with regard to value and image quality, because you got yourself one hell of a GREAT camera for not a hell of a lot of money spent. One great thing about it was that it included a Nikon lens mount so I could use Nikon lenses which I had for my older Nikon F100 film camera. And besides that ... the S3 was built like a Sherman tank, with a magnesium alloy body. VALUE and QUALITY is what Fuji offers you.
The mount is called SR hence the name SR-T and in 1966 it was one of the first cameras to allow light metering with the aperture fully open, that's why MC stands for metered coupled, so it was no longer necessary to measure by stopping down. In any case, the previous lenses could be used, although they did need to close the aperture before metering, which was achieved by pressing the button, which also served to see the depth of field. The MLU, although it served to block the mirror before shooting, the reason for its existence was that the first wide-angle lenses (for example 21mm) did not have RF (rear focus) and in order to use them you had to raise the mirror. Later, Minolta changed the design of those lenses and the MLU was considered an unnecessary production cost, hence its disappearance from 1973 I think. The SRT-101 is a good camera, although well maintained, but the 303 is even better, for me a great camera.
Thank you! Very inspiring. Genuin and beautiful photos.
Many thanks!
i just bought the MTL3 in a fleamarket with a price tag I could not resist but my MTL3 has no self timer, the leatherette is different and the advance lever plus the shuter speed dial is black. maybe this particular model has many variations?
Yep, well spotted, they did a few variants, IIRC the lack of self timer makes it one of the late models
I was gifted this camera by a friend who was going to throw it in the bin. I must admit I have only used it once. Film is expensive and I don't have a dark room so I have to get them exposed by London Camera exchanged who charged me £13.00 for them to get developed, 24 exposures.
My first ever SLR camera was the little sister to this, the Canon TLb.. I shot that thing for decades; and did everything from family snaps and holidays to christenings and yes even a couple of weddings in the early eighties... I've always loved these old Canons and nowadays I have a collection of them to play with FX; FT; FTb; and of course the TLb, along with some smashing FL and FT Lenses. RE focusing; and quite oddly the earlier FX has a rangefinder split image screen for focusing... Thanks for a really informative video; I'm now inspired to put a roll through my Beautiful Black FTb this week.
The F-801 is way much better. Takes cheaper AA batteries and has DoF preview.
It is indeed, but they do tend to go for about double the price of the 601.
Great video! Really helpful explanations. I couldn't help but wonder if the carrier with the light leak woes might be defective unit? I would enjoy a follow-up video on your image capture workflow, and your thinking on technical details such as aperture and exposure, software choices, and post processing. Oops! That might be a series of videos...
No problem, more than happy to add those to the list :-)
I took a chance for £40 on a Canon 8800F flatbed. Everything I read said it wouldn't work with Windows 11, but it does. Yes its slow, but I can go away and do something else while it is scanning.
The Canon was significantly more expensive in the day
It was indeed, which only adds to the advantage the Canon has now.
@@gideonliddiardphotography I understand.. I bought my SRT101 in 1972.
I bought mine from MPB last year and it cost £84! It's in fantastic condition and hasn't missed a beat. I wish I could say the same about the 50mm 1.8 II lenses I've gone through...
Nice one!
"Ugly Canon EF"??
Got an A1 1n 84 at a pawn shop for $10.00, with a 50mm f1.4, still use it today, just a drop of oil every now and then.
Bought a 5d new in 2005, still use it often
hi! Would you know if it is possible to assign physical button/dial to photo bank in the S series please? I would like to cycle between black/white and F1b and F2 in an S5 without having to go into the menus. Thank you!
As far as the S2 and S3 go, it doesn't allow you to map any buttons.
@@gideonliddiardphotography thanks! Looks like it is the same on the S5... I will have to fiddle with the camera, go into tbr menu etc. I guess I can't really count on fuji to prioritize a firmware update for this camera... 😂😁. Thanks for the reply by the way, much appreciated! 🙂👍
Definitely seems to be great value. It's on my shortlist of it goes on sale or if I find a good deal, to grab one. It has good value from a entry level price point, creativity options with the accessories
Totally agree!
Hi Gideon, loved the Swindon Paint fest.
Yep, always a great weekend.
