Try setting the hook a little firmer, im not really seeing you strike the bite, and your drag is crazy loose.🤷♂️👍
Both good points - tightened the drag a little, strike harder now and swapped to a lighter gauge jighead and seem to be landing at a much higher rate
When is the comp
This comp was at the end of November. However the same people are running one in Forster on the 8th of Feb
Okay thanks
Nice catch dude.. great start to a good day ❤
Thank you 😊
@@theuntamedtrail you very welcome. Did you end up catching much more?
Caught 6 all up. Was a reasonable day out 😊
@@theuntamedtrail cool, all different species??
All of them were flathead
Wow keep up the great work man
Cheers mate, appreciate it!
Great stuff mate. Where do 7 get ypur plastsol and moulds from
I source them from all over. Find most of it on eBay but have bought a few things from Etsy and direct from the US.
Well done. I am an experienced fisherman but have never really tried soft plastics. What weight jig head did you pair it with ?
I used a 1/6th weight with a 2/0 hook. Works well in this system with the depth and current I was at. If I was fishing a bit shallower I would swap to a 1/8th weight
Well done mate on letting her go.
Thanks mate
Knee deep merky water having dark shadows comming at you. Lol. It wakes you up in the morning. I've had an experience with a shark around the corner from where you were when I was retrieving a crab pot. With any luck should be chasing a few flathead up there next week.
Didn't need coffee for awhile after that 😂
Great fish
Thanks mate
Nice mate, I saw you fishing off the Breakwall but didn't bother you as you were filming. It was all good until Christmas and It got busy quickly. We got some nice flathead and fantail jackets along the racks. Tight lines 🎣
Feel welcome to come say hi the next time you see me - and nice to hear you've been landing some good fish. The switch in the town has definitely been hit and will be busy till Australia Day, but still plenty of pockets of water away from the crowds 🤙
@theuntamedtrail yeah I'll do that mate no worries we found racks away from mainstream boaters and it delivered 👍
Thanks for the video. I was there this week with my boat. Caught 10 decent sized flathead (35-40cms) on Saturday, Good to see the system is flourishing. A couple of years ago, I could hardly catch a flathead.
Thanks mate, that's a decent Saturday! The system seems to be getting better every year with the slot limit and bag changes.
I was fishing the Forster keys in early October and on a motor oil swim swimz I managed a 52cm flathead and a 31cm flounder. I’m probably going to be up in foster over the next week any lures/lure colours that have been consistory working at the moment for flathead. Should I get a white colour slim swimz ? Any spots that have been consistently catching flathead ? What is the name of the spot you normally fish past the oyster leases how do I get there ?
I've been using 4" white paddletails lately and having decent days on them. So it might be worth grabbing something in that profile. Most spots are fishing consistently, I've been finding they are in groups. So just keep moving until you find a patch and then throw a bunch of casts if you do get a bite / pull one in
@@theuntamedtrailI’ve been using squidgies prawn wrigglers and doing well
The wrigglers and prawn paddle tails will always have a place in my tackle box
I hope that you catch more fish 😊
Thanks mate
@ all good
Hey Chris, is my combo for lures too heavy? I have a 4000 reel with a 6’6 2-6kg rod.
I was in Forster yesterday in the arvo at that spot and had no luck catching anything. What do you recommend I use
That combo will be fine for lures
It can get a lot of current in that area, I'd make sure you have enough weight on your jighead to get down to the bottom. I normally fish a 1/6 but sometimes even go up to a 1/4 when it's really running.
hey chris do u have instagram, I,ll be up at forster over new years i saw u in bcf with a longtail that i had caught on the day , I got a 90cm flatty and have a couple of good spots that i would like to share
Yeah I have Instagram - theuntamedtrail is my handle. I'll be there working till Tuesday if you're around, or hit me up on insta 🤙
Hi Chris would it be possible to organise a meet and greet a lot of my mates and I would be really keen!! Could do it in plenty of spots around Forster even if you do a giveaway there too or show us some tips and get photos etc. would be really good mate as a lot of the town loves you and holiday people coming here because of you too would have a chance to meet you!
Hey mate, looking at doing something mid January, just need to figure out the exact dates and location but will let everyone know when it's confirmed
Nice 1 Chris I've had a few off that bank in the kayak wasn't aware you can walk to it, but looking at the end of the video i guess you can . Have look on fosster tuncurry fishing i got a nice 85 the othr day.
You can walk across, does require a bit of wading but is a pretty nice way to cool off in the summer. Cracking fish as well mate, not much beats catching a big Flatty on a surface lure
And I thought I was lucky with a 53cm on 10 lb 😮 nice one!
Thanks mate! A 53cm is still a solid fish on 10lb
@11:00 why winch?
It's a saying about just trying to drag something up. I didn't bring a net so would have had to try and land it by sliding it up the bank
St George's Basin?A d well done☺️
Forster - About 4 hours north of Sydney. And thank you
How do you get over to that spot? Walk over at low tide?
Can go over throughout, you'll just stay a bit drier during low tide. But you will still need to wade some sections
@ thanks mate
Good gob
Thanks mate
New sub here mate 🎉Just stumbled across your page. Love the content 🤙🏽 I have a channel also if your interested
Cheers mate, I'll check out your channel as well 🤙
Just wondering what fish are about in Forster at the moment around December-January and what spots are good/best also how has Forster keys been for fishing recently.Any good spots At the moment for bigger pelagic fish such as kingfish and salmon land based that is safe to go without a life jacket. Has beach fishing been good ?
The keys has been producing reasonable numbers of flathead in the 30-40cm mark. Breakwall is fishing really well for bigger flatties and will be your best bet for any pelagics land based. Beaches have been a bit of a miss, only scoring the odd undersized Mulloway and Tailor. Hopefully the southerly we are getting will start firing it up
What combos are you running
Main rock combo was a 9'6" Penn prevail 10-15kg and a 10k twin power with 30lb braid. Estuary combo was a Shimano zodiac 2-5lb and vanford 2500 with 15lb braid I also have a video from a month ago where I go in depth in my set ups and what / when I use certain things
Nice! was there a couple weeks ago and got a couple kings :)
Nice job mate! Looks like a good spot to target them that's for sure
Location looks great, very good spot for relaxed fishing.
It's a great spot to get away from people and enjoy nature
You are so entertaining mate. You are a producer and I love it. Look at your subs going nuts you’re the future of fishing and RUclips. It won’t be long until the other RUclipsrs start looking to your success. The consistency of uploads and the quality of fish still being caught is extraordinary. You’re a fishing tutor.
Thanks for the kind words mate
Can you please do the meet and greet? Now it’s school holiday time would be great even if you bring some lures too and just have a gathering to meet you somewhere around Forster?
Ill look at doing something in January 👍
My cousin bought some of your lures and let me use one yesterday and I caught my first flatty (also first lure catch) and now I’m hooked on your videos bc they are amazing!
That's awesome mate, congrats on your first lure catch
@ thanks! Ive also been tryna get into making fishing videos just gotta save up, but it’s nice to see a fishing RUclipsr from the town I live in, always great to see small creators and support them!
Hi mate where did you launch looks good
This is magpie Creek boat ramp.
Hi tried to get in magpie creek today don't know when you went in last but trees are down and the track is well overgrown tks for the information shame as i was looking to fish it over Xmas till the crowds calm down. I'll send a screen shot of how far I got have a great Christmas
You need to take magpie Creek trail. There's a few different inroads and some are terrible. As for fallen trees, they may be trees / branches across the road after all the wind. I often have to clear the road before I can get to the water
Got in tks I was on the wrong track maybe catch in the new year
I was thinking it's good to see so many fishing videos recently with long sleeves and other sun protection. I was really hoping one of you would talk about sun safety and literally 10 seconds later you start talking about it. Good job (and great videos).
Cheers mate, it's something I try to be mindful of when I'm out on the water.
40 pounds is that what he said?
40cms - length of the fish instead of weight
Awesome video! Parents live up there, travel and fish the area as much as I can. Would love to try out the lures.
Thanks mate, it sure is a great area to fish
These look awesome mate! Great job. Love seeing your whole process, stuff ups and all. Keep it up.
Thanks mate
Awesome video Chris. I saw a guy land a 96cm flathead there the other day right where you were fishing. He got it on a jerk shad.
this the third video iv seen on these prawn lures with the assist hook on the back . might be a different brawn tho . they seem very good but the price on them is hefty for one single prawn .
They definitely work. But they are on the more expensive side and didn't seem overly durable
Hey mate good to see another vid. If you can try getting more content up would be sick.
Thanks mate, I'm planning on cranking out more content soon!
Awesome video Chris. Love your plastics I’ve been doing pretty good with them. Definitely hit up Luke from Great Lakes tackle!
Cheers mate, glad to hear they're working for you!
You are just so captivating Chris. By far the most talented producer I have seen on RUclips. Definitely starting to hear your name getting around a bit and I think that’s due to consistency and professionalism. Well done young man.
Thanks heaps for the kind words, really appreciate it!
Looks the goods. Liking the colours that are like nippers.
Thanks mate, I'm stoked with how those turned out!
Im no fish but them orange tail grubs look mighty snackish
Had to stop myself from taking a bite as well 😂
Good job looks hectic
Thanks mate!
Love your work champion both on the water and in the shed. However, mate, I'd be covering my feet when dealing with molten plastics, just a thought. Also, I live in Forster Tuncurry and believe I can buy some of your Soft Plastics, where can I purchase these?
You can buy them at Forster Sport and Tackle, or click the online shop on my RUclips account
Good job mate they look killer 👏
Thanks mate, super happy with how they turned out
Great effort!
Cheers mate
sick vid dude
Thanks mate
Chris you are really starting to branch out. Look at those subs grow, well done young sir. Your outgoing energy is contagious. I find myself leaning towards the screen with you you are very luring.
Thanks mate, really appreciate the kind words
Thanks so much for showing me the technique you use to maintain a strong grip on the flatties. Definitely helped to see you perform it. Thanks mate definitely will be using that technique more.
No worries mate, hope it helped
I think i worked out your issue. You were winding into the fish and not really striking to set the hook gd.its a little hard when using prawn lures to do so as you need to mimick a fleeing prawn however when that initial hit comes strike first then start winding again
I think you hit the nail on the head, I started focusing more on the hook set and suddenly the rate I dropped fish lowered
