    What is the tactic you use with prawn lures ? I have the 3inch daiwa prawns but i dont think i am doing the correct retrive

    • @theuntamedtrail
      @theuntamedtrail День назад

      I use mostly a hop and pause retrieve. So flick the rod upwards and wind in a small amount then allow the lure flutter down and pause on the bottom before repeating. I'll increase the height of the flick and the time paused at the bottom to add some variation. But that is mostly how I use prawn lures

    I’m going to try Forster keys tomorrow. I fished there today and only managed 3 tiny bream (10cm) on prawns as bait. What would you recommend in turns of location at Forster keys bait lures and time for flathead. All I want is one or two flathead to take home for dinner and I can never seem to catch them. Could you please give me some advice for this location so I can take one home for dinner

    • @theuntamedtrail
      @theuntamedtrail 19 дней назад

      I would start on the sand just south of the boat ramp in the morning 8am-12pm. I'd have one rod out with bait (prawns are good) and a second rod using soft plastic lures. I'd use a small shrimp or grub style. 2.5-4" range and in a green colour. If you hit that location and haven't caught anything in an hour I'd go down to the southern entrance to the keys and do the same thing there. Prawns on one rod and lures on another

    Hi sir, I am a beginner. Can I ask you a question? Can you tell me how to choose the jighead weight?

    • @theuntamedtrail
      @theuntamedtrail 21 день назад

      The weight will depend on the depth of water you are fishing, the amount of current and the weight of your soft plastic. Fishing shallow and without much current a 1/16-1/8 weight is fine. Going to 5m depth and a lot of current I'd use 1/6-3/8.

    • @yasinozkaran4417
      @yasinozkaran4417 20 дней назад

      @@theuntamedtrail Thank you for your answer. I don't have much experience. What are the disadvantages of not increasing the jighead weight in deep water , will the rod sensitivity decrease?

    • @theuntamedtrail
      @theuntamedtrail 20 дней назад

      If your jighead is too light, the lure won't be able to get to the bottom (where most fish tend to be) if it's too heavy it will go straight down and not mimic a fish. You want to find the balance of being able to stay in the depth you expect the fish to be, while allowing the lure to still swim and act naturally.

    • @yasinozkaran4417
      @yasinozkaran4417 19 дней назад

      @@theuntamedtrail I understand sir. What is the disadvantage of not increasing the jighead weight in current water?

    • @theuntamedtrail
      @theuntamedtrail 18 дней назад

      If you don't have enough weight, the lure won't get down to the bottom which is where the majority of fish will be. We sometimes call that the "strike zone". You want your lure to be in that strike zone for as long as possible while still being able to act as naturally as possible

  • @Meek2002
    @Meek2002 21 день назад

    they look really good but 1 problem with the prawn one is that the string things whatever they are called fall off easily when i was fishing with them either way really nice:) it would be really cool to start a lure company, how much does it cost you roughly to make each plastic?

    • @theuntamedtrail
      @theuntamedtrail 21 день назад

      Thanks mate. Yeah the prawn one can lose an antenna or two pretty easy, but it's the price you pay for it to move around so much in the water The cost per lure for the plastisol and colouring required for a pack of lures isn't much at all. The real cost is all the equipment, molds, time dialling in colours, packaging etc.

I’m going to mostly be around Forster keys any bait and lure recommendations. @theuntamedtrail 22 дня назад

      The keyes are fishing pretty consistently at the moment, but most are on the smaller side. I'd concentrate on the sandy sections near the boat ramp and the north and south entrances. Darker colours and greens have been working well for lures

      The water along memorial drive and little street in Forster is nice and easy to access and pretty simple fishing. Otherwise the breakwall and boat harbor hold more fish, but can be a touch more difficult with tides and current

The two bright colored wrasse with red fins at the start of the video are the male crimson-banded wrasse. They are in fact the same fish in different stages of the life cycle. All are born female with the largest specimen in the school transitioning to male to lead the group. Looking forwards to more videos.

    youve tried mixing both and sticking both in the microwave at the same time right? surely. and it didnt work ? well... youve already invested this much... invest in a second microwave. : ) i was thinking about carving a wooden mold for soft plastics made from cheap hot gun glue. i dont need fancy. fishll bite anything.

      I've tried both in there, but the cups are just a fraction too big and almost got knocked over 😂 might have to look into a bigger microwave 🤔

    Microwave both pots at the same time that way they both come out hot and you got abit more time before it cools down on you. Non the less your lures perfect bro 100% love to see the big fish eat on them

      I have tried that but the pots I'm using are just a bit too big to both fit in there properly. Might need to grab some smaller ones because it would definitely make it easier

    How do you get there??

      @theuntamedtrail 3 месяца назад

      Start at the tuncurry rock pool cafe. You have to clamber over quite a few rocks, but it's not too difficult to get there

      I've enjoyed them the few times I've taken a feed, might have to do a catch and cook the next time I chase them.

    Good fun, I have not chased drummer in ages. That first one you got was a black scalyfin, and a couple others the southern maori wrasse.
