If I were put in charge of Lucasfilm tomorrow, I would continue the old Expanded Universe of Star Wars Legends, and rebrand the Disney canon, beyond Episodes I-VI, as Star Wars Myths. That, and completely divorce _The Clone Wars_ of Dave Filoni from the Legends continuity, with any reference to that show from 2008-2012 being dismissible as typos or given an in-universe explanation, like the Empire tampering with records or unreliable narrators.

The Sith had been irradiated for 1000 years. The Jedi had no reason to expect them to return. It would be like if some presidential candidate saw a couple guys out riding horses and decided to run his campaign on "Beware of the return of the Mongols!" - he'd be laughed at. The Mongols haven't been a danger for 1000 years. Why worry about them when you have realbproblems like half the country wanting to secede? "Corruption of the Jedi" is a myth. Give an example of the Jedi being corrupt? There really isn't one. It's just something prequel fans like to say. Qui Gon is held up as a "real jedi" but if he had listened to the council and not trained Anakin, the Republic would not have fallen. It literally fell because the "chosen one" switched sides and stopped the Jedi from putting away the last Sith once and for all. If anything you can criticize the Jedi for giving in to a maverick member of their order and bowing to his wishes instead of sticking with the tried and true wisdom of 1000 generations of success.

The Acolyte is playing tomorrow?? I can't wait to completely ignore it! That said, no you don't need to be a fan to be in Star Wars. A good actor can play a part very well if the actor doesn't know the previous installations of the series. He just needs a good script and good coaching, if necessary. Even the writers don't necessarily need to be fans to write a good Star Wars story. Perfect example is Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One and wrote Andor. He's not a fan but he wrote some of the best Star Wars ever.
