Squiggy the Hyrax's: HyraxTube

Squiggy was a rescued baby hyrax that came into my life all of a sudden. She was found alone on a large property nearby by a farm worker. I tried and tried to find a hyrax family that would take her. But she kept running off. I finally trapped her in an old building that I knew had a family living in it. I figured nature would take it's course. About 30 minutes later I was headed home from visiting a neighbor and I heard a distant "squeak squeak squeak" and saw this tiny 2 week old hyrax running towards me on the path 30 meters away. She stopped between my feet, looked up, and squeaked again at me. My landlord saw this from a distance and yelled "I guess it wants you! It's yours now! Take it home and take care of it!" This channel is dedicated to her and her wild cousins that live on my roof and around the neighborhood. Sadly, (and I mean, VERY SADLY) after raising her from a bottle, she suddenly passed at 16 months. Veterinarian could identify no cause of death. Welcome all.

Squggy and I often ate together. She had a very low grunt/knock sound that she would make when she was especially interested in what she was tasting. She wouldn't often make it when I wasn't there very close - if she was browsing on her own, she didn't really make that sound. But when hand feeding, or she was anticipating a favorite food she would make it.

These animals are terrific! I never knew about them until I saw 2 of them in my zoo. Now I am fascinated and visit them everytime I go to my zoo. The 2 at my zoo have such cute snaggle teeth and remind me of Dr. Seuss characters. I love how you respect them and show the world how wonderful they are.
