I've had a few comments on my videos and on FB about how you absolutely can't ride in sand or gravel with the TKC70's and or with MTC on. We do it all the time so I figured I would get some video on this ride. Mind you it's not ideal, but it's dang good practice.

David and I both have some Motoz on order so we went out for possibly our final ride on the stock TCK 70's. After a year of riding the 390's I would say we're both in a place where we can finally make use of extra traction offroad. 🤙

David, Ryan and I had an amazing day of riding in the Idaho mountains today. I swear, the more I ride this 390 the more amazing it becomes. This thing handles everything my skill will allow and with stock tires! At this point I think I would have to attempt hard enduro to really find some kind of mechanical limit.

Bought this Echelon on release day because the pistol has a very focused design for modern thumbs forward shooting. Decided since I had a new gun might as well run it through a USPSA match. It's been a little over 10 years so I was pretty rusty but heh, the Echelon did great! For gear I'm using a Blackhawk Omnivore holster with a TLR-1. The belt is a Black Scorpion comp belt I snagged on amazon...

    Thank you for sharing, you had a lot of fun! I am considering to get the Hyperpro progressive spring for both front fork and rear shock, setup the 390 ADV mainly for the off-road usage and some race events, pairing with 21 18 spoke rims

    Neutral is easy to find when the engine is off! While running it takes 3-4 tries. But there isn’t much need to go to neutral while running. It’s a wet clutch motor. Keeping the clutch in at intersections doesn’t wear out the clutch.

    Thats a tidy setup both on the bike and when you pitched up. I've been camping on bikes all my life, it's called wild camping here , rather than dispersed camping. Biggest difference really being here there are trees and water :) (its also a lot colder of course ;) Nice one. It's very different going alone, eh.

    Wow dude, this is inspiring as a 390 ADV owner! Great to see you and it handle some serious offroad stuff. And for being a high revving bike... it seems to be handling low revs pretty well going up those hills. I'm assuming that's thanks to a 14T front sprocket and the FuelX?

      Yep that and the Dominator exhaust system. Those 3 mods together add a ton of low down grunt.

      Thanks! I have the powerparts skid plate. I know it gets a lot of hate but I think if you don't put the entire weight of the bike on it it's fine.

      @@furadride852 Much appreciated. I like your rationale approach to these things (e.g. the front fender). And based on the type of riding you're doing, I think you're a testament to the fact that a heavy, over engineered skid plate is not a necessity.

      yeah I feel like people get carried away with the skid plates sometimes. My riding buddy has the stock skid plate and we ride all the same stuff lol. It's broken in a couple of places mind you but still functional.

      Thanks! I think the 300L is a great dual sport but I wouldn't wanna ride one a lot on the highway. That and it would probably be more expensive to upgrade the suspension VS the 390.

      @@furadride852 Aye. I had a Tenere 700, which was great for offroad, but too heavy for me, riding solo, to drop. It's funny, the other day I was riding a light trail on the 390 and it crossed my mind, how well would I have done in enduro (I used to race a bit in the 90's on a cr250, 4 hour races). A well sorted 390 and a fit rider could do ok in certain classes I reckon, especially the road legal class, but overall, for a 4 hour enduro, it's just too heavy by a good 50kg.

      Oh for sure. I really only started labeling our riding as enduro riding cause I don't know what else to call it. I don't like the term trail riding because I feel like that encompasses a lot of riding that is much more novice level like fire roads or 2 track.

    Awesome video. Must have been even sketchier going down? Interesting that you're doing some pretty technical stuff with stock front fender. I've seen where people are swapping them out and I guess to prevent caked up mud messing things up? And I see you're riding in dry trails here. Have you thought about replacing that fender? Seems like a big downside would be during higher speed road riding and poor aero with a more aggressive dual sport fender.

      Yeah even with mud I don't really see a need for the high fender. There's a big enough gap that it never gunk ups that bad.

      I’ve just bought a 2024 model so I can’t do any serious modifications to the engine for warranty reasons, but I will fit the Dominator full exhaust system to mine in 12 months time, I don’t want to piss on anybody’s parade but my advice is to go to a tuner and get it dynoed and mapped to your specific needs by a professional because it may seem faster and stronger to you, but you are only guessing, it could be running really lean in places and run the risk of burning out the valves and piston, just saying

      @@ericjohnson1472 actually I'm not guessing. If you check out a few of my other videos you'll see that I ride with someone that has a 390 without power mods. We've been comparing our bikes back to back for well over a year and the power difference below 6k rpm is very obvious.

      @@furadride852I didn’t mean you were guessing who’s was the fastest and strongest bike, the one with the updates against the one that had none, a couple of sprints and sprint inclines would soon decide and prove that, I meant you were guessing at what the actual mixture ratios were and what the actual spark timing on both bikes were, a slightly leaner running bike will run better, thats until it prematurely burns out ! My advice is not to guess but go to a tuner and get it professionally mapped ACTUALLY ! lol

      @@ericjohnson1472 I think you misunderstand what a fuel X does. The bikes run lean from the factory to meet emissions. The fuel X makes the bike run richer.

    Yeah this is a great drill, I have a similar hill in my backyard but mine is naturally curved left and right so no need for cones for me. This is a good drill not just for hillclimbing but more specifically it’s good for being able to pick lanes and change lanes during the hill climb without stalling. This video is really good, but it would’ve been made even better had you had it a third person perspective camera, Even just throwing your iPhone on a tripod and filming you going up that Hill would’ve been super helpful.

    It's interesting to watch the improvement, but it's the downhills that I struggle with mostly personally. And 90f is 20f more than a 'hot' day here, I'd be cooked just laying the cones out , and need a lie down :)

      usually around 15 PSI. Tires are Motoz Adventure rear and dual venture front. 👌

      I had a boosterplug in my 690 Duke. It didn't work as well as the Fuel X in my 390.

    That was quite remarkable, how well the front end dealt with those whoops. More like a trail bike than an adv. The big questions are.... What about the rear end to suit now? And... How is it on the road, with the front end so different? Nice one, I see an upgrade in my bike's future ;)

      Rear end for me is ok. Maybe just add some more preload. Front end feels amazing on the street. Under normal conditions it feels the same but under hard braking it's much more stable and there's less dive. 😀

      Traction control OFF, and Sports mode = different car. LOVE my 24' Kia GT2. I honestly don't know why this car has been so misunderstood, there should be a huge market for performance parts, but we have a handful of companies instead. That 1.6T with DCT is one of the best combo's out there under $35k, especially when you consider the warranty, and tech package.

    I added the FuelX Lite to my 2021 KTM 390 ADV and after the second day of installation the green lights would not appear on the module. The bike also would not start. I disconnected the unit and put the bike back to stock and it still would not start. It sits in the KTM shop now and waiting to hear what caused the bike not to start. I also ordered the Dominator full exhaust system and found that the Blackdog skid plate is not compatible with this exhaust system. What kind of skid plate did you use with your Dominator exhaust system?

    When it looks steep on a gopro then it's REALLY steep. That was great , your bike was a dragonslayer until you hesitated then picked the shortest line to try and keep momentum. Clearly the tyres are doing what you wanted. The mighty 390, the bike that according to all the 'experts' cant really offroad ;) Thanks for the vicarious ridealong, I'm ready for a rest now though.

    Great video and tips! I noticed you upgraded the handlebar and risers. I was curious what did you use (do you have any links?), as from what I've understood the ktm 390 has a uncommone handlle bar size (26 mm) and so it's hard to find bar risers and handle bars that are compatible and did you have to change out the clutch cable as well? Txs!

      Yep yep. The 390 actually shares a common KTM mounting patter for the clamps. So I have scar clamps and then I added an additional riser block. scar clamps - tinyurl.com/mw98wr8m riser block - tinyurl.com/b6rpr2n Then you can use any standard size bar. Mine is the protaper EVO which is a little lower. If you got the protaper ADV bars you probably wouldn't need the riser block. You will need to replace the handguards too as they're integrated into the stock bars. I guess I need to just do an upgrades video cause enough people have asked. 😂

Yes if you do a video with your handlebar upgrades with links I do think it will get a bit of views as this odd handlebar size is something that for newbies like me was a bit of a surprise and yet important info to know and have yet not always explained or mentioned in detail. 👍

    When you were loading the Bass tune, did you have any issues with the device updater app finding the file? The base tune is in my folders and downloads, but it’s like it’s hiding from the app.
