"welcome to the next episode" i think i keep clicking the wrong one, where is the current episode?!

I wonder if this American release technically existing is why they didn't change the name of The Goonies II, I know that confused a lot of people who had no idea where the Goonies 1 game was.

Movie games are strange, and these early ones really suffer from the watchable to playable conversion. Still, it’s interesting to see the solutions the developers make!

just a few videos into this series so far, but i'm really loving it! such a fun way to look back at nintendo's history; i also think you're doing amazing things for old game preservation, providing clear footage and even commentary for some really obscure stuff that could easily be lost to time (well, THIS game is hardly obscure, but just in general). you also have a very classic 2000's youtube feel in a way that's really cozy and nostalgic. awesome series man, can't wait to catch up and keep up with it :)

I understand why you set your criteria for “beating” this the way you did. However, IMO, you haven’t even scratched the surface of what this game has to offer without at least reaching Phase 18. This G&W might be the absolute hardest to get 1000 points on. I still haven’t managed to do it. It gets crazy fast on those higher levels. The random level generator even gets harder with more moving platforms and vine walls. Does the difficulty ever top out like in other G&W’s? I have no idea…

Great feature with the progress bars at the end! Really helps conceptiualize how far you have come! But in the far far future once you get to the current generation of games, it might be pretty wonky to deal with, when new games come out and such. But it’s a fair while before that moment.

No mention of how they converted this cab into Donkey Kong? The music sounds very similar. Activision put out a clone of this that's really good called Beamrider.

I played the hell out of this game on the NES when I was a kid. The only differences I see between the version's are you don't get a map, And instead of a health/fuel bar it's just a percentage of damage, from 0% to 99% and then you die. And that being the case you don't have to worry about fuel. The battleship is neat once it's launched it goes looking for the carrier and when it finds it instantly sinks it. You deal with it by dropping bombs on it to sink it just like with the factories but it's a moving target. One thing you missed is at the northwestern enemy air strip you can land there and resupply your bombs. But you don't get repaired. Also don't do it when enemy planes are landing because they'll taxi right into you and kill you.

This game was majorly held back by the limitations of the console era. Great work on these videos! ⚽️

maybe if this had some lunar lander elements like gravity or fuel concerns it might hold up a bit. seems kinda basic to the modern eye. probly pretty creative back then though… hard to say.

Having followed the whole series, this really shines a new light on how far ahead off every game released so far by Nintendo this was. Really only the Punch Out series could compete quality wise with this so far. I see Zelda is next, and while that was arguably more innovative, it was still a bit clunky and didn't age as well. SMB really hit it out of the park and the gameplay holds up for the most part.

I bought my NES in 1987 and I recall thinking how weird it was that Pac-Man wasn't available yet. I knew the NES had been out since October '85 and my thought was that Pac-Man would have been one of the first games out of the gate. When Pac-Man finally showed up on the NES in October '88 it felt so late in the game, gaming culture wasn't embracing older arcade titles in those days. And then it wasn't long before the Nintendo approved Pac-Man vanished from stores and you wouldn't see a Nintendo sanctioned version appear until late in '93! I bought the Namco edition of NES Pac-Man in '93 for about $40!

Masked Wrestlers have been huge in Mexico since before most of us have been alive. I'm not sure when Mexican and Japanese wrestling crossed over but pre this game apparently., You should be grateful ring out victories lead to title changes in this.
