I like the first exercise because I never seen it before and I like the simplicity of it (without the bow lol). I can't wait to try these tomorrow morning.

I found this video incredible insightful regarding how to practice. I am an amateur cellist taking lessons, and have occasionally studied violin. I am just realizing how critical it is to play repetitions with highest quality to avoid training mistakes. Thank you for making this video and sharing it. ❤

Hello!! Thank you sooooo much for these kind words! I am so honored to be able to help in any way. I wish you the best in your practicing! :)
Thank you Sophie, I find you here, please making these videos , I need it so badly , violin is so hard and I need guidance thank you again and again
Absolutely, violin is hard! I will gladly continue to make videos. Best wishes to you! :)
Thank you so much Sophie, your tips are great, I am self taught , can you do a string crossing slur , in a bunch of notes in one bow in a small hand. It is really a killer, it is always not clean , uneven because I can't stretch , I really appreciate if you can help out
Hello! I am so glad you find my videos helpful. As for a string crossing slur (I believe you are referring to bariolage bowing?) , I recommend practicing open string first and the left hand separately. Left hand try to practice it reduced in chords, not thinking of it one note at a time. The string crossings are best practiced open string first. Then, try slowly combining the two. I hope this can help!!
Thank you for the lesson. It means a lot to me start learning violin at 58 yo. 😁😁😁
I'm so glad you enjoyed!! Best wishes on your violin journey! :)
That was so beautiful. and so help full , listening to you play. always takes , my mind to a beautiful , mountain, of green grass and bright spring flowers, and makes me wish that, my violin playing was, even half as good as yours. from Murray inNewZealand

Thank you so much! :)
@@SophieCViolin you are very very welcome
Thank you for the lesson.
You are so welcome!! :)
Is there any exercise to play distinctly one string?
Yes! Each of the open string exercises can be isolated to focus on one string at a time.
How to ensure my bow is on one string only?
That's a great question! There are four levels for each individual sting that your right arm should be at. The Elbow/right forearm should be parallel to the angle of each string level. I know this is a bit hard to explain via words, but I hope this can help! It's mostly about which level your right arm is at for each string.
Excellent tutorial!

Hi! I really would like to thank you. I'm a major in music too and I started in my teens, not a kid definitely. I work hard to build up my violin, history, composition, piano everyday. Sometimes I feel I'm not enough...won't hide that the reason is the toxic environment at conservatory. I feel like you are creating a healty, peaceful, quiet place where anyone can talk about their own struggles and being understood. Thank you so much I appreciate so much your contents!

Hi,Sohhi how often you practice long tone Your tone it good
Hi! I practice only a couple of minutes each day on average now. Maybe about 5 minutes to maintain consistency.
how many hours do you practice? i cant do more than 45 minutes to an hour tops at one time, but i try to do this 3 times a day.
Hello! Honestly, my hours vary greatly depending on the day. Recently, it's been about 2 hours of practice time if I'm lucky... I think what you're doing sounds great, and as long as you're truly doing your best and being productive during the time you do practice, the results will come. Quality is greater than quantity :) Best wishes to you!
Powerful testimony to a great personal challenge! You told it honestly and believably. I love your assessment at the end of the process, of your elation and despair, your motivation levels and the shifting quality of your practice. Your advice to pick up and move on. Your mom's wisdom. This is a brilliant and tangibly human description of how your serious challenge actually went. You seized it! Thank you for sharing your valuable experience. I would have been interested to know how you organized your work each day... or perhaps that was something that evolved over time for you, depending on what you set out to work on and learn, and accomplish. Brava to you! Simon Fischer has a beautiful practice flow chart, full of balloons and arrows going everywhere, that I adapted and added to, to include those often ignored aspects of musicianship, of playfulness, improvisation and even composition. I like to impart this total approach of practice to my students. But have I taken on such a 1000 hr practice challenge for myself? Not yet!! You've inspired me!
Hi Wendy! Thank you SO much for these incredibly kind and encouraging words! I'm so happy that you enjoyed this video of my long journey. I learned so much more than I anticipated to as I practiced this 1000 hours. As for my daily organization, it definitely evolved over time. It was hard to follow through many times, is what I remember. I'm inspired by what you just mentioned of adding key aspects of musicianship, playfulness, etc. Thank you so much for these words of wisdom as well. Wishing you the best as a fellow musician and teacher!! :)
Well explained fundamental guidance 👌Helpful in my violin studies at the age of 71. Thanks.
So happy to hear this!! Happy practicing!! :)
I love your videos Sophie! I've been here off and on for a while and you inspire me a lot. I'm a teenage violinist and I've been on the extremely difficult journey of finding the right equipment to play comfortably, but I'm finally able to! I'm excited to get more serious about my playing. I'm my church's violinist and I want to join an orchestra at some point. I'm gonna be using your teaching videos a lot. Btw, congrats to you and your fiancé!
Hi Riley, thank you so much for these kind words. I am so happy to hear all of this, and so honored to be of help in any capacity. It is so exciting that you are getting to further your journey as a violinist. I'm wishing you the best in this new journey!! :) ps. thank you for the congrats!!!

What is the quality of the wood on this Fesley violin? Especially with the finger board. Or is it mystery a material that is made to look like wood, like some cheap instruments?
Hi! It says the wood is "solid wood panel made of AAA-grade European spruce, a AAA-grade flame maple backboard, an ebony fingerboard, and ebony pegs with shell inlay." That is what I took from the website, at least. Hope this helps!
@@SophieCViolin thank you 👌🏾👌🏾
I am a freshly graduate student from high schoo with 9 years of playing the violin. Some of my friends are in college right know. Is it to late to major music college or wait for another year? Im lost of how college work
Hey! I would really consult your teacher on this since he/she probably knows your situation best. For music school, 99% of the acceptance results would come from your playing at the audition. So while it wouldn't be too late, I just don't know many details of skill level/commitment to say more on the topic. I really wish you the best and hope you can figure out what is best for you!
