Are you a Republican? Selling Lies?! Your church here might be Gothic by "STYLE only".. I doubt someone was there in the 12th century to build a Cathedral - but we go on.. Ranking of Saint John the Divine in NYC for the largest Gothic (Style) Cathedral is No 6! No 1 is Seville Cathedral, Spain followed by No 2 Notre Dame, Paris France and so on...
I've never heard such a noisy key action! I'd be curious about the cost factor.
Beautiful!!! Good work Charles :)
Sounds obviously electronic. Bring back the pipe organ!
I've just subscribed to your channel after seeing the SJD demonstration of the very fine Walker Technical Organ (I hope to play it before the return of Opus 150-A). Your quite fine demonstrations are quick, to the point and superb. "Uncle Gerre" (Gerre Hancock) let me play the Aeolian-Skinner when I was 16 years old leaving me alone to explore the organ and have fun without him standing over my shoulder and breathing down my neck as many organists would've done and I thank him for his kindness and generosity. I was 15 when Fred Swann let me play the Riverside Church organ and he too left me to myself to play and have fun. I last played the St. Thomas 5th Avenue organ about three or four days before John Scott passed away and I especially appreciated his kind generosity. You're a superb organist with a most incredible future ahead of you. Keep up the great work!
There are only two pipe organs on the planet with actual 64ft stops. This is not one of them.
There is a 64’ Gravissima
Excellent video, thanks for demonstrating that fine Walker Technical Organ. .y friend Bob Walker is a GENIUS in his contribution to the organ world and we thank him for it.
dizzying ... camerawork. Pls learn to hold the camera still!
What makes you say that
@@Charles-Reardon the camera is all over the place
@andrewashdown3541 in what way?
I once tuned a 2/5 Style 150 WURLITZER for an ATOS event. It was the only organ I have ever tuned that gave me a headache. I'm sure it was a real screamer in the small theatre that was its original home. 😊
Charles - It was a pleasure to meet you and your friends at Ben's recital!
I do believe that my organ teacher was assistant organist here at some point
Psihijatrija!
Beautiful and very, very exciting and energized performance of the Vierne Final from Symphony #1!!! WOW, so enjoyed this and the videography and audio. 70 and not been to the Nat. Shrine since early-mid 1970s when I was an undergrad organ-sacred music major. The relief on the back gallery had not yet been installed and other features added since then. Also the rebuild-restoration of the original MP Moller I cherish my LP recordings of the Durufle's, Swann and the big anniversary mass/concert with Jean Langlais. The Langlais recording features the wonderful Shrine carillon with Robert Grogan, premiere recording of the Langlais Missa Orbis Factor, a fiery improv on the recessional hymn, Immaculate Mary. The reverse side is a wonderful organ concert of various works by Langlais others. The record jacket features the magnificent Christ in Majesty mosaic. The college I went to in PA had a 85 + rank Moller, I believe circa 1965, in the college auditorium.
A few years ago, I made several recordings at the Shrine. Here's one of them. (When I uploaded them to RUclips, there was a 7-minute time restriction, so the performance had to be split into 2 segments. This is Part I.) ruclips.net/video/5IUG2YM1aHE/видео.html
a lot of $$ for a stop that might be used once every 5 years. I've heard that organ...the music gets lost at this tempo.
A lot of money, but I didn’t spend it and I’m not complaining…
I played there as a student, and I’m pretty sure the 64’ is a resultant, so not a lot of $$. More of a novelty but certainly adds a pew-shaking effect when desired.
Großartiges Stück, phantastische Orgel, herrlich gespielt....
Update me. Are you the present organist at the cathedral?
Only during months that end with F
Soberbia interpretsción de esta pieza impetuosa de Vierne. Muchas gracias, Benjamin, ha sido un placer escucharte desde Madrid ¡Bravo!
Beautiful! I have a friend who is a Catholic priest in the Orlando area, and he (like me) is a not-so-great organist who likes to play a few hymns now and then for fun. His instrument happens to be Schoenstein’s magnum opus at Mary Queen of the Universe shrine in Orlando! Next time you are down here, you absolutely need to play that organ. Largest organ in a Catholic parish in the south.
I love that organ! I love that church! I watch the mass on TV alot from the Bacilica when I can't go.
You play around far too much and don't just play nearly enough.
Wise words
I have been playing this piece for about 3 years now, it is certainly a showstopper!
My favorite Vierne piece by far! So much so that I ended my Master’s recital with it (decades ago) and it kind of became a signature piece of mine. This is very beautifully done, and I seriously envy anyone who has a 64’ pedal stop!!
Even all the great video views of the basilica don't prepare you adequately to experience in person how incredibly LONG the interior space is. It's really something.
It's really wide, too. My law school graduation was held in it. We paraded in regalia up the hill organized in the crypt - all 350 of us. The sanctuary is quite a hike across it, too. And yes, they had the organist play for graudation!
Truly one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever been in.
Beautiful church!!!! Beautiful organ to!!! And very nice performance of Vierne!!! Who's the builder of this organ?? And when it's built??❤
It’s a Moller rebuilt by Goulding and Wood I think
Originally 1965 Moller I believe
Beautiful registration. Would have loved to see you perform it at the console.
A splendid instrument in a beautiful building with a generous acoustic. I enjoyed this sparkling performance, Charles . . . and look forward to hearing you play some Vierne in the near future!
I am at the mercy of my professors now!
Ok Charles, appreciate this capture of the Vierne, but would rather see/hear you performing it! 😉
What an instrument!! With a 64 foot pipe!! (Either resultant or digital. Not sure.)

This is certainly a new one on me. Great arrangement. I’ve never heard this tune before though. What tradition does this come from?

@@Charles-Reardon, oh that’s right! You’re at BYU now! I forgot. I have a friend who taught there…interestingly, he was Catholic, and his wife was Lutheran.
Does anyone know what song was being played at the beggining of the video?
Thank you. A fine performance.
this is a FRENCH piece? Ever heard real native france people heard talking?. exactly.....

Really should have waited for someone to come, and ask if you can play them. You're like a little kid just messing around. Don't get me wrong I love you're organ playing but just out of respect. That's just how I was brought up.
I’m confused, Dr. Cook gave me the tour. He let me play the organs. You see and hear him talking, no?
Excellent!
A spirited solo piano performance by you, Charles, of Janice Kapp Perry's song: bravo! A remarkable lady now in her late 80s, Janice has written more than 3,000 songs and she only entered the compositional world more seriously due to breaking her ankle during a basketball game aged 38!
Charles Reardon has the best arrangements
Excellent performance. I’d love to hear your interpretation of this hymn on a Hammond B3 church organ. If you want to check out one of the great gospel organists search for Cory Henry on RUclips .
Always good to make your own arrangements and have your friends play them with you: bravo! What a beautiful, mellow tone from the Flugelhorn before the toccata-like burst on the organ and the trumpet led finale! Great snare playing!
A great performance from you both: bravo! The 'Piccolo Trumpet' beats an en chamade reed any day!
Very beautiful. You're a very talented young man.
Ive been there and ive seen the organist
Great demonstration! I practice here regularly and play on Sundays every now and then. It is a fantastic organ and I will definitely be sad to see it go
Washington surveyed the land for this church and was on its vestry. During his time there was no organ. After the war, the church was nearly abandoned, as the church of England had shut down. It was used to shelter union soldiers. In the 1870s a group of locals repaired the building and re-openened it. They bought an 1850s organ from an Episcopal Church in New York state. A lot of nice but incorrect Gothic furniture was placed in the chancel In the early 1900s another renovation/restoration took place, with the help of the Women of Mt Vernon Asso. A new small 2 manual Hinners organ was installed. I have worked on this organ in past years. Its very Germanic and some what different than what an 18th century English organ would have sounded like
When a note on a pipe organ sounds out of tune like that, it's because that pipe has slipped out of tune and requires tuning again. We have a pipe organ in the area which hasn't been tuned in years and when we're singing there, our organist tries out all the settings to find which ones are out of tune so he knows not to play in those.
You should go to Mesa Arizona, and play the largest Wurlizter organ at the Organ Stop Pizza restaurant. Its a fun time. I guess it's the largest since it has alot of added sounds to it.
He would have to go to Franklin, WI to play the largest Wurlitzer theatre organ. The organ installed in a warehouse at Carma Labs (makers of Carmex) is bigger than the Organ Stop Pizza instrument, which has 82 ranks of pipes. The last official number I saw for the Carma Labs organ was 90 ranks, but it has likely grown some by now since it's still a work in progress.
We're headin back to the renaissance with this one
Should have let Bob have a go at the organ!
He did I just didn’t put it in
