I'm curious why Rainbow Gardens recommends hardneck garlic in our area ofTexas when everything one reads says that softneck garlic should be planted in Texas? I questioned an employee about that last fall at the Bandara location and the employee became very exasperated with me and stated that hardneck garlic is the best for Texas. Maybe you are right, but everything I have read says in our part of Texas, one should plant softneck garlic. When shopping there last fall, I only found hardneck garlic. I love Rainbow Gardens and your selection of plants and especially your wide selection of seeds, but you seem at odds on what type of garlic to plant in our area with all of the other recommendations I have found. Can someone at Rainbow explain your recommendation? Thanks in advance for your response.
First of all, I'm sorry if an employee seemed exasperated with your questions. That's not our go-to. We love hearing questions from our customers and hope to always help whenever we can. You are correct. Softneck garlic is better for our warmer temps, while hardneck is best for cooler areas. They both can be planted, but the softneck tend to do better. I see the video displays hardneck garlic, and most likely that is all we had in stock when doing the video. But I'm not sure why an employee offered the advice they did. Sorry about that. now you have me interested in doing a video about the differences and perhaps how one might be able to cold-stratify hardneck garlic by putting it in the fridge for a few weeks before planting it! So I thank you for your question that got some wheels turning.

Thank you for all the tips!!! I have a some beautiful plumerias I propagated and were doing great but now all of a sudden some of the branches are getting soft and the flowers won’t bloom 🥲 should I cut the branch down to where it isn’t soggy? Please help! Thank you ☺️
Hi there, it's possible that they are developing stem rot/root rot. I'm wondering how long ago you propagated them. For now, definitely cut back to where stems aren't mushy. How often are you watering; you probably should ease up a little. Wet soil and cooler temperatures can contribute to the problem. If this is stem rot, it is not treatable with any chemicals, but a mature plumeria can usually recover from it by pruning the affected area down to healthy growth. If new cuttings develop it, it is generally fatal. The following article has info some other plumeria issues, but also offers a list of some great ways to prevent stem rot from happening. You could probably get a few in there. just remember to thin them to where you have about 10-12" in between seedlings.

Very Very helpful visual for how they will present in the garden for San Antonio. It helps to know that part of the nursery is pretty much full San Antonio SUN. The 2nd list of Natives is partly BLOCKED by end of video graphic boxes. Not sure if RUclips fault or not.

Can i move the cocoons to clean the enclosure we lost a larva yesterday so i don't know what killed it but some other ones transformed into cocoon in the night but in the wrong spots but i don't know if the caterpillar that passed was infected with anything now i fear for the rest
You can. use tweezers to gently remove the chrysalis. We've found using a low temp hot glue gun can help you adhere the tip to a branch or you can use a little clip of some sort. Make sure they are hanging vertically. Don't attempt to move them when they are about to eclose of course.

Organic fertilizer would avoid a lot of these problems of burning plants, killing local wildlife in runoff, and overfertilizing.

Question: Did you mention when is the best time to prune the Crape Myrtle? Some people say after the flowers are gone, and others mention in winter. What do you think?
Here in San Antonio, Texas, the best time to do any hard pruning is late winter/early spring. Around the end of February is generally a good time. If you want to do some light pruning by snipping off the spent flowers at the ends of the limbs once the main blooming period is over, that is okay, but not necessary. It's more of an aesthetic preference. Hope this helps.

I have been cutting it for many pots now, but they are all leaves no flowers and they grow very tall and big on the ground. It’s all green leaves no flowers.😢 I have killed so many plants now! Like succulents on the grounds are gone after me cutting and then spider plants are gone too after a few cuttings… so hope this won’t be disappeared on me 😄

What did you put in the bottom of the pot to keep the soil from falling out the hole??
Nothing. I generally don't cover the drainage hole in pots. Especially because succulents can't stand overly wet soil. The soil was dampened before planting, so it wasn't dry and loose.
I find they will root in dirt. I stick them back in the pot i took them off and voila. No problem. No root powder.

Shouldn't my Owari be putting on new growth this time of year? It had a flush of new growth in april but absolutely nothing since. It's in a 20 gallon tub. Thanks.

@@rainbowgardenstexas5086 I think I wasn't giving it enough fertilizer and water. I've increased those 2 things and I'm seeing tiny new leaf growth. Also made more holes in the bottom of tub so I can water more often.Thanks.
@@johnjohnson1313 Terrific! Look at you! You fixed your own problem. Best of luck in the future, and hope you get a great harvest. Fertilize through September, than hold off through winter so new growth isn't susceptible to freeze damage. If you live here in San Antonio, you may need extra water through any periods of drought this summer. Good on you for making those extra drainage holes, those are key to success!
I suppose it goes w/o saying that cacti/succulents don’t require as much water? Even in the hot summer months? And when mulching plants, would i move the mulch around to fertilize or add systemic granules? I’m always concerned that the mulch is a barrier. Thx!!!
Yes cacti and succulents will require less water. As for fertilizing, if using granular fertilizer it's advised to scratch it into the soil somewhat. Watering thoroughly after fertilizing helps it gets to the roots where it needs to be.
