I listened to Bruce Wayne growing up. He crashed and died two days before my high school graduation I live near Fullerton Airport. Every time I drive by, I think of KFI In The Sky! Recently, I was a traffic tipster for Tommy Jaxson when traveling to work to Irvine. One morning, I was driving through Santa Fe Springs at 6 AM. I saw police swam the area. Tommy told me that there was a man with a gun. Also, Mike O’ Brien was flying directly over me. Tommy was talking to me. Then , Mike saw my car and flashed his light to say Hi and to tell me all was Ok. When Tommy retired, Jennifer York was on KNX. I got to talk to her. One day, she said, wait until I talk to Mike I said Say Hi From Tipster Rod. We all had a great laugh. Thank You Traffic Reporters for many good times. Thank You Ted Z. I talked to you by phone on KOST, and 95.9 The Fish!

Oh Love Songs on KOST is iconic LA. I'm 51 now and that era was so influential in my life. I was a love sick depressed high school kid in the late 80s.... so many nights stealing my moms car so I could park it at La Brea tarpits and listen to your tunes. I wish you were still on air :( Your touch, your voice, and your care on that show is like no other. Hope you are well... please let us know if you're doing a different show somewhere else. Maybe you should go online! Much love and respect!!!

I saw Bobby Kimmel in the early 70’s at a Coffeehouse called “”In the Alley” in Escondido, Ca. He was with a group called “The Floating House Band”…. They were amazing..such amazing harmonies. 20 years later I thought of them and looked them up on the internet. They came up as having played at McCabes. I emailed McCabes that I had seen that band 20 years earlier and had one of them gone on to be one of the “Eagles”….a wonderful person sent me a lengthy email explaining that I was mistaken and went on to explain about who The Floating House Band had been and the relation to the Stone Ponies. That kind person who undoubtedly took a chunk of his time to educate me was Bobby Kimmel. It was an act of kindness I appreciate to this day. Thank you for making this video…it shows him to be as kind as I always thought he must be.

What about reviewing the work of THE most …….damn how do I describe the way he communicated? Not articulate, not flowery, although those both apply. He started in the early 60’s and then by the 70’ talk radio. But I’ve never heard before, or since a man who could speak in a more colorful and creative style than BILL BALANCE. I know he was at KRLA in the the early years, and ended up at KFMB in Dan Diego. He was truly amazing, and likely not around anymore. Can you find something on him?

I recall Sweet Dick when he finally reached KFI. Wow! He was all the rage that we heard about and he finally was gonna be on a station that even we---way out in the Inland Empire---could hear. He was a great listen. He'd come on to the intro of "Sweet Dick and his mid-morning Schtick" after the Lohman & Barkley Show. Yes, he was more than a handful.....always taking his show in numerous directions and all at the same time! My favorite bit of his was a pretty much weekly satirical recap of the previous week's news......called Clean Spots on a Dirty Wall. As a young person, it always got me to look at the news in a different light. That "different" idea was central later in my education as a Political Science student. Very interesting concept to use in a small midwestern college town He pissed us off, too! We were agricultural and he always seemed to cut off the commercial promoting California Fresh Summer Fruits.....apricots, peaches, nectarines and plums. We grew apricots and he'd always seem to step on "our" commercial. The music would cue, the promo and main advertising of which grocers were featuring what fruits would play and he'd start yapping! DAMN! We (the Co-op) paid good money for advertising to promote such a brief season. Still, he did it in such a hilarious way, so we couldn't be all that upset. Always in good fun, right? Different times..... Dropping masses of hair on Mt. Baldy was another exceptional radio stunt. It took a brilliant mind to think of and pull that one off. The invasion of Catalina Island was simply hilarious! THANK YOU, Sweet Dick for all the great memories from my youth!

William F. Williams was my neighbor growing up, very nice family, more than just neighbors. It was very nice when they did the 35 year reunion...does anyone know that Jimmy Webb wrote "up up and away in my beautiful balloon" after Mr. Williams flew him in the KMEN hot air balloon?

i listened to Sweet Dick on KGIL in 1970 and on and he always made me laugh. i actually heard the bit with the guy that played meat and its nearly as clear as having seen it on tv. and also when he hung the painting in the bathroom in the "Louver" as he called it. i am surprised that it didn't come up about the tv program...Almost Anything Goes where he played the part of a sportscaster (and convincingly so) while the participants flung pizza over a high jump bar, the winners being the ones who got the most intact pizzas over the bar and back to the ground. HILARIOUS. if he's still with us, I would love to get to meet him and express my appreciation. he's a master.

I am to 62, and finally decided to google my childhood favorite DJ. Sweet Dick was the voice in the kitchen while my mom made us breakfast before school. I was probably in the 3th-6th grade. I will never forget having my mom take me to pick out a birthday card for Sweet Dick. I can still remember picking it out and going home to sign it. I was devastated as a kid, he never wrote me, but I was a kid! = ) Anyways, the card was a bird pooping on a man's head. It said, "Dick you fool, Duck!" Have a Happy Birthday! I still remember the card, and how perfect it was! If you ever see this Dick, please know you made my childhood and that of my brother's. Thank you more than you will ever know.

@@dickwhittington948 OMG, I am absolutely "fangirling" (as they say) right now! Thank you, thank you more than you know. 😄🥰 Please know you made my life and that of my brother and mom's life so JOYFUL! You are SO LOVED!!!, Life back then so different back in those days, so the light you brought meant the world. There were some very difficult days, so thank you!! Btw, who was the young lady who used to call into your show, and was really fun? Of course there were so many, but there was one who used to miss school (I think) to go out and participate in your amazing adventures. Was her name Allison? Something tells me she was in high school or college. I was so envious of her. haha!!! From my mom who is 91, my brother 60, and myself, we truly thank you again. Can you believe we are in the same area?! Crazy I know. haha! Take care, and please start a pod cast!! Nancy (ignore the other name) Sending you much gratitude and kindness. Excellent 👍😊 program! Engineer Bill was my childhood hero! Someone I did get to emulate. To this day I do have a permanent American Flyer layout with the same rolling stock as featured in the program. Got to see Engineer Bill briefly when he made an appearance at the newly opened Market Basket supermarket on the corner of VanOwen and DeSoto Streets in Canoga Park in August 1963. Got to meet him at the Toy Train Operating Society National Convention on the Queen Mary in Long Beach in 1996 while wearing my conductor's uniform. The uniform is what I wore as a volunteer for the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, CA. Got to wear it at his memorial service in Westlake Village and jet Kathryn too. I too remember the Kennedy assassination. Regular programming was on hold for a week! The program format changed after that. First with "Funny Company" then the Nine Island theme in the Summer of 1964. The theme changed again in the Fall of 1965 as it turned into "Engineer Bill's malt shop". It had kids acting like teenagers. I lost interest and had to buckle down on my schoolwork at that time. By 1966, Bill was gone but not my fond memories. Seeing the old clips brings a few tears,... like seeing a long lost friend again. Thanks for the great life lessons and the cherished memories. ❤️

Finley's non payment of Monte's medical insurance premiums is consistent with his reputation as an SOB. Monte didn't get his hospital bills paid until Finley received negative publicity. This type of behavior caused Finley to lose the services of a hall of fame pitcher, Catfish Hunter, when he failed to make payments to an insurance annuity which were required to be paid under his contract. When Finley tried to make amends, it was too late, Hunter filed a grievance, became a free agent, and signed with the Yankees.

Monte mentions a basketball game he announced between the Kansas City Steers of the American Basketball League and a team from Ohio. He means the Cleveland Pipers coached by Bill Sharman. Monte just had a senior moment. As a teenager living in Kansas City, I followed the Steers on radio and probably listened to the playoff game he mentioned.

Bobby Blue himself, in this interview, states that the riot was at the 1970 concert, not 1968!!!...Also, Hendrix was never known to personally negotiate for more money just before going onstage...if that happened, it was his managers that were doing that!...Hendrix did have some tardy appearances at concerts, but for other reasons...This info is a real-putdown of Hendrix...he was a moody guy, especially towards the end of his life, but the money issues he left those things to his management...Jimi himself is not here to defend himself...how about doing more research before slagging Hendrix?
