So I'm Bulgarian, the Slovenian language is much closer to Bulgarian than Serbian (and Serbs are our neighbors!, while Slovenians are very far from us - but interestingly closer in language!) I understand absolutely everything! I don't need a translation. A very large part of the words and word order are exactly the same! We have similar dialects in Bulgaria Even we have dialects that we don't understand at all, and your language is much more understandable, with slight differences, tending to sound Serbian, but understandable, unlike Serbian. The Slovenian language, together with Croatian, are the closest to Bulgarian in terms of understanding and pronunciation. I had a Croatian colleague with whom we worked and we both spoke our languages ​​and understood each other without any problems or need of translation! Russian is much more distant than our language and has not much in common with Bulgarian, nor the grammar, but we know it because we studied it as "mandatory" during communism. Macedonian is completely indistinguishable from Bulgarian, it sounds like a light southern Bulgarian dialect. There are still Bulgarians living there, but unfortunately they have been brainwashed and identify with the territory of Macedonia. (which territory is also in all of Greece, that's why the Greeks didn't recognize Macedonia by that name, and never will!) They took this territory away from us from Southern Bulgaria, along with Croats and others, when they tore our country apart with the Treaty of Neuilly, and a lot of the population moved to our reduced new territory. Bulgaria was suddenly overpopulated with ethnic refugees. At that time, even half of today's Greece was inhabited by ethnic Bulgarians, not Greeks! It was artificially populated with new people, and they expelled the local Bulgarians from their own homes, burning villages and houses and raping women and gouging out their eyes. A very terrible story! The atrocities of the Greeks at that time against the Bulgarian civilian population were even worse than the Turkish atrocities, because the Turks helped the Bulgarians to save themselves from the Greeks! The Greeks did not recognize ethnic Bulgarians when they gave them our territories. They forced local bulgarian peoples to say that where "Greeks" otherwise, they were killed. And in the northern parts of Dobruja, they gave our territory to today's Romania and Moldova. We still have a Bulgarian city with a Bulgarian population in Ukraine as well, but it is harassed there and unrecognized as a minority, which no one wants to talk about from the politicians and is not given much publicity. They insult the Bulgarian ancient monuments of culture in these countries. During those war years, many ethnic civilians peoples were deliberately driven out and massacred, which is inhumane! The whole purpose of the great powers was and always has been to weaken Eastern Europe and the power of Bulgaria under Tsar Boris and Simeon who successfully fought the Byzantines wich was eastern Roman Imperia, and made the east culturally reborn and a better place to live. The west didn't like that. And under their rule, there were no slaves in Bulgaria, people were free, while in Western and Central Europe, there was still slavery. Always the "great powers" want to keep the eastern countries in Europe poor and weak, therefore they tear them apart and do not allow a common Slavic union between our countries. Bulgaria was such a large united territory of the Slavic peoples, but they deliberately broke it up so that the Slavs would not be strong and united. Thanks to the missionary work of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius, their disciples Clement, Naume and Paisi Hillendarski, etc., this bulgarians gave the letter and the reading to all the Eastern Slavic peoples, by spreading Orthodoxy Christianity in these eastern countries. Western countries accepted Catholicism, therefore the West Slavic countries, instead of writing in Cyrillic, write in Latin lettters, which is a mutilated alphabet and does not have a single symbol for the specific sounds that the Slavs have, especially the characteristic Ж, Ч, Ш, Щ = this speciffic slavic sounding have characters only in the Cyrillic alphabet! In my opinion, it is logical and correct for each nation to have its own script, like the most Asian tribes, have because there are so many tribes in one country that each tribe has its own script, even they have common religion. But the religions derived from Judaism (Christianity and Muslimness) spread violently, Only Orthodoxy was spread peacefully, and through violence - was the Catholicism, with their crusades. Of course, Islam only spread through wars and conquest of nations. Аnd when they rechristened a country and territory, they also changed the writing of the people in order to erase their roots, and to know who rules them. In this line of thought, many Asian countries that imposed Islam also acquired Arabic script, as the local ruled people forgot their ancient scripts and traditions. This is how peoples are melted. In the past - through religion and writing, and now through new political ideas and corupption of political idiots. But beyond these constant stories of power struggle, of politicians, we see that Slavic languages ​​and people are clearly very connected and common, even though we are far away as a territory from each other or write in different script. I wish to all peace and health.😊
