With the sun appearing for once we made the most of the good weather, the best way to do that is in a 1951 Ford Prefect. Enjoy the day with us.....

WHAT'S CAUSING THE BAD START ?
Просмотров 23110 месяцев назад
The Riley has only been moved out to allow work on another car, so we suspect the 'sluggish' start is fouled up plugs ? Are we right ??

DANSETTE DELIVERY SAGA PART 2, CAN IT BE DONE ?
A beautiful car but please learn how to engage the crash first gear without crunching it.....slide the gearlever slightly back towards second, then forward into first. No crunch!!
Thank you sir, will try that
@mark1966 good luck Mark. It'll be second nature once you've done it a few times😁. Is yours an RMA or RMB? Would have been built around the year I was born...1953!🤭
My first car.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi wonderful film ❤ do you know where I could find a roof rack for like yours for my prefect thanks
@@LVSHELP Only thing l can advise is that these were popular on Morris minor & Mini, so search using that but don't get ripped off, people ask stupid money for them now, l converted mine with the wood slats you see, kept the price down
@@fourwheelswobble how funny I'm just watching one of your videos as you replied. 😂 Thank you for that I will do 👍
I was thinking of getting a roof rack too. Not sure how strong the gutters are on these cars but they look nice with one fitted.
@@bluebirdfan100 l have fully loaded mine and covered a lot of miles no problem, check my other videos
Great thanks for the reply. Sounds promising as the boot is tiny for trips with the kids.
Nice car.
I'll have to go camping in mine
Yes, you must, it's the best camping you'll ever do... Thank you for watching sir
Nice job on the engine. Amazing that you tore the car down to that extent and managed to rebuild it. Unfortunately, some cars dismantled like that never see the road again. Good job.
Thank you sir, l never had a doubt it could be done, a lot of people round me at the time had big doubts too, good job l didn't listen to them, cheers....
Very similar sounds to driving the E494A Anglia I owned a little while ago 👍
Yes, the sidevalve sound is distinctive, I think I saw your video's on that car in the garage, you do a lot better than me for video hits and subscribers, but then your video's are very interesting and well researched sir. Thank you for watching my little drive
@@fourwheelswobble It was neat to hear an 1172 firing up again :-) good luck with your channel
@@oldclassiccarUK Thank you sir.
Lovey drive, thanks
Glad you came along sir, thank you
Wow that gorilla is so cool
Nice music, but too much of it. I wish we could hear how the car sounds.
Creepy no way I would drive in that thing alone at night
Spooky!
Maybe she is related to a rolls-royce Ghost.
Draught beer?
Sort of, not the best tbh...
Rear view mirror on a strange night might have it lookin at you 👻👽👹🙈
Car wobbled alright, must have been heavy for a ghost 😂
😳lol looks like your car is haunted 👻
I miss my RM.
Hi Wobble, lovely car.
Hey, thanks Harvey
So what make is it ,Oh its on the back its a GB 😂😂❤
👍
Thank you - any chance of a closer look at the fuel filler locking cap and fittings - I guess its been converted ??
No modifications to filler caps , just locking petrol caps, the one got stuck but is fine now
Plugs Sooty (due to cold starts and short shunts never reaching running temp to burn off. Typical winter blues) and wire brush Sweep won't solve for long. Do you remember the old sandblast cabinets most garages had for cleaning spark plugs? The reason for sand blasting was to clean deep inside the plug body where a wire brush will not reach and clean all the carbon/soot off the centre insulator which was white porcelain as well as cleaning the contacts. Carbon is an excellent conductor and the spark can track down the outside of the centre contact to earth on the body of the plug rather than sparking between the exposed contact gaps when under compression. So sometimes checking the spark outside the cylinder can give a false impression all is well. Modern silicon carbide blasters are available quite cheap if you have a normal air compressor. This not only gets rid of any internal tracking problem but also makes it much easier to spot if the centre insulator has a crack. Want to see Mr Riley start first flick of the starter every time.
Yep you are totally correct sir, but having this car since 1987 l know how she performs, this time of year is always awkward for starting but after a good run there's no bother, so I'm not over concerned now, if this was mid summer l would just buy new plugs, the ones l cleaned are only 6 months old , Thank you for watching and cheers for the advice, ...
Sorry My Fault You were wire brushing the plugs and I said (to myself) "You mean !!** buy some new plugs" just as I said that you caught the wire brush in your jumper. In future I will keep my comments to my self quietly.
Lol, Thank you for watching, new plugs & jumper on the way, stay tuned..
Nice set of metal badges to mince up pedestrians
Thank you for watching sir, I'll avoid driving on the pavement.
S.U.pumping away.
If it has a mechanical fuel pump I've found that my RME likes to be hand primed first to get the fuel up which will make it start easier and save the battery.
Good to see people caring for classic cars, they are the survivors from the era they were created and a glimpse into the tech and styling of the time. For 1952 that is an old design though, just shows what WW2 did to UK manufacturing even into the early 50's. Nice car.
Thank you, yes l know this history, basically it's a 30s designed before Ww2 , it's an honour to keep this beautiful part of true English heritage alive, please stay tuned for more antics, I'll be cleaning the sooty plugs up and going for a good run !
Nice ,great eye candy car👍
Really nice classic motor John. ❤❤❤
Thank you kindly
lose the infernal badge bar.
Came with the car, why would l remove its history ...?
@@fourwheelswobble because it's clutter that spoils the design.
In your opinion of which you are entitled to, In my opinion its part of the history of the car and looks rather nice. Thank you for watching sir.
I wonder why it didn't start more easily. It took quite a while before it first fired.
Over the years l have noticed that damp plays a big part here, the plugs are upright in a valley between the inlet & outlet valve gear,, perfect for collecting water, but once fired up its no problem all year... Thank you for watching sir
great to see the old badge bar.reminded me of the triangle stickers we would put in the back window showing the towns we had visited now a thing of the past.Great upload Sir.
Thank you , the badge bar is showing the history of the car and you can still get them triangle stickers made on ebay, I have one for Annie..
Recalling our next- generation Popular suffered in my childhood as a parental reaction to the early 1970s fuel crisis also still had the comedy slow uphill vacuum wipers.
I'm drooling with jealousy, covetousness, and various other emotions. Oh, how BEAUTIFUL this was, and what a queen she looked, especially next to all the modern tin cans on wheels. I shall go on dreaming.
Thank you, all credit to the designers, cheers for watching sir.
Done my prep., now all I need is my RMF.
This looks great
Thank you sir, cheers for watching, please stay tuned for more adventures
Wow, what a beautiful elegant car 😍 great job!! I can almost smell that interior from here 👍🏻
Thank you sir, yes all credit to the designer, who l have never been able to trace properly other than Riley., cheers for watching
She had the kiss of life.may she live long Sir
Thank you sir, a lot of hours, too many to count spent in the garage repairing parts, but the memories are priceless
@@fourwheelswobble from looking a hopeless case in 1987 to now..... you have done a remarkable job, well done mate ;-)
Amazing what you have achieved, and a lovely drive down through Cheddar Gorge. Take care 🙂
Thank you sir, yes a labour of love for sure
Just a heads up. I got a badly strained wrist many years ago courtesy of a Morris 8E when it backfired. I was trying to start it with a starting handle and not keeping my thumb along side my finger instead I had it round the handle.Ouch1
Thank you sir, duley noted
Cor, takes me back. My dad had a 48 prefect with the headlights separate to the wings., I think Channel Green (light colour). Took our family of four everywhere Including holidays to Cornwall in the late 50s early 60s. Where on earth did we put all the luggage? lol
Great memories sir, Thank you for sharing, the golden days...
My first car was a 1948 Prefect painted olive green used to rock in strong wind due to cross springing.🙂
Yes transfere leaf springs, like a boat in the wind, lol, we have fitted panhard stabilising rods back & front, still dodgy on the bends tho...
When my dad bought a car for me to drive to school in Boulder, Colorado 1959, he said it was a '49 model. The badging said "Prefect" but it had left-hand-drice (built for export to the United States). It had a bumper sticker on it that said, "It wasn't Sanforized." The slow operation of the windshield/windscreen wipers really brought back memories!
Wow, great memories, Thank you for sharing, yes the vac windscreen wipers are just about useless, lol, amazed they were allowed to be fitted...
@@fourwheelswobble I think vehicles - pickup trucks at least - continued to be built in the United States until the late 1950s. My personal opinion is that such safety features as electric windshield/windscreen wipers shouold be fitted in response to consumer demand - not government mandates. My 1950 Plymouth had vaccum-powered wipers and they worked much better than those on my Ford Prefect.
Sounds lovely when the turbo kicks in! 😁
Lol, thank you for watching
It always amused me when I was a kid, Dad had several mates that owned Prefects, you opened up that big bonnet behind that impressive grille and there's this little side valve lump cowering in the engine bay, With an old car or motorcycle you'll always have friends.
Wonderful video
Thank you sir, glad you enjoyed
wonderful stuff you're going to make that Brummy accent popular x love from Lancashire
Thank you so much, so glad you enjoyed the little video of our adventure, which started in 1985, should get a medal for owning the car so long with my Brummy accent scarring every one lol, but hey, we all gotta come from somewhere, cheers.
@@fourwheelswobble 1985 that's amazing man well done 👍 me & the wife are in our first year.
Ford in the post-war era never envisaged the future impact of wind tunnel testing by the owner-driver....commiserations!
