Another thing I would do is put more platforms creating movement flow like crash bandicoot style games
If I were the developer of this game, I would remove the life and energy bars, leaving only the enemies redder when they are close to dying and finally I would focus the entire game on this curved camera style and the wind effect when running

I like how it doesn't go for a complete and total kitchen sink fantasy. It picks a period and sticks with the aesthetic, keeping it tonally consistent.
