  • @funkyDBZ
    @funkyDBZ 3 месяца назад

    So Razor Ruddock, Trevor Berbick, and Tony Tucker aren’t great fighters. I’m not sayin they all-time greats but I think you’re selling Tyson’s opponents a bit short just because of how anxious they looked against Tyson. Also Larry Holmes had a solid run after Tyson for someone “over the hill” when he beat Ray Mercer by UD as well as knocking out Mike Weaver which was over A DECADE after the loss to Tyson. In the case of Michael Spinks he had just beat Holmes TWICE two years before his retirement after the Tyson fight. While I agree with your position Tyson is slightly overrated by casuals, you don’t sound like you did quite all the necessary research to prove your point😬

    • @funkyDBZ
      @funkyDBZ 3 месяца назад

      Also to refute a couple more of your point Ali got knocked by Frazier. Roy Jones got knocked out by Antonio Tarver. Hector Camacho knocked out SLR hell you mentioned Ali v Foreman and didn’t mention Foreman got knocked out in that fight😂knockouts require context and you can be KO’d by someone who isn’t as great as you because boxing isn’t a sport, it’s a fight. Tyson’s resume may not be eye popping but you must understand…NOBODY WANTED ANYTHING TO DO WITH MIKE TYSON😭he was TERRIFYING. There’s some people who think the loss to Douglas was a dive to get someone to actually nut up and fight Tyson. You sound younger so maybe you just don’t understand there was a reason he was “iron” Mike Tyson and “the baddest man on the planet”😂

    • @HawkTalksBoxing
      @HawkTalksBoxing 3 месяца назад

      @@funkyDBZthere's only so much I can say in a 9 minute video, I could've mentioned those fights, but I don't think it's worth making a super long video over, I said what I think is right, mentioned what I think is important to validate my points, michael spinks beating larry holmes twice and roy jones jr getting ko'd by antonio tarver plus the ali and foreman ko loses is pretty well known knowledge within the boxing community above the average knowledge of casuals, yes those guy's had ko loses but they still have a better resume than mike tyson

    • @funkyDBZ
      @funkyDBZ 3 месяца назад

      @@HawkTalksBoxing ok but you do know Foreman actually boxed around the same time as Tyson so half his resume is fairly similar. They faced almost the same number of hall of famers and share a loss to Holyfield(who is a hall of famer) Roy Jones has only faced about 4 hall of famers too I’d say these three fighter each have a case for being better than the other(I would give the slight edge to Foreman for the legendary comeback) but even he wasn’t perfect when he got back. Roy Jones career is actually a lot like Tyson. They were both here one day and gone the next after the years passed them by. The real edge I’ll give to Foreman is that Ali is the ONLY man to knock him out so you’re right in that regard those KOs don’t help Tyson compare to him. However sayin Mike Tyson has a weak resume doesn’t properly respect him or his era. Comparing competition in boxing is almost pointless anyway. Ali is the only boxer who didn’t have trouble finding quality opponents. Tyson fought all comers you can’t ask for much more🤷‍♂️Foreman fought longer but was missing some of the names Tyson had beaten such as Ruddock, Berbick, or Mercer(doesn’t take anything away from Foreman imo just keeping the themes of your argument) and Roy Jones and Mike Tyson fell off a cliff for one reason or another. Tyson’s fall off was partially because of the YEARS he spent in prison which you also forgot to mention. All that considered plus the tape we have I don’t see how Tyson doesn’t measure up to the guys we mentioned

    • @HawkTalksBoxing
      @HawkTalksBoxing 3 месяца назад

      @@funkyDBZ I didn't mention prison in the video because people tend to run through an excuses list for mike tyson and they usually bring up the prison thing, I don't think it matters in the context of the conversation, it's just something that happened, sure it may of effected him afterwards but it still doesn't change his resume, I don't go by would've could've should've I go by what happened and what is left, roy jones jr aged like spoiled milk just like milk tyson but I still think he has a better resume even if he lost a lot as he aged, and foreman is obvious, he beat michael moore at 45 so it's kinda hard to live up to that, I think mike tyson is right below all those guy's, not by a lot but just enough for him imo to be considered overrated based on what casuals think of him, in the graham schem of things mike tyson is still a freak of an athlete and competed at a high level, but compared to other elite heveyweights who did it better, within that context he's overrated, by casuals of course, not calling you a casual just in general

    • @funkyDBZ
      @funkyDBZ 3 месяца назад

      @@HawkTalksBoxing I respect that opinion brother I don’t make excuses either and I rank Tyson at about the same place. HOWEVER there are certain things outside of a boxers control that I feel are worth taking note of. For example if Mayweather fought Pac in 2010 who knows how that would’ve gone. 49-1 maybe🤷‍♂️Now to be clear Tyson could have avoided prison obviously😂but I feel it should be noted that he missed out on plenty of fights that could’ve improved his lackluster resume including the Michael Moore fight which happened before he was released🤷‍♂️as far as RJJ is concerned much like Tyson he really only had one substantial victory after he got KO’d by Tarver with his victory over Trinidad. Also out of the three fighters we’re talkin about Roy Jones(and you may wanna fact check me on this😬) has the worst record against Hall of Famers since he lost to Hopkins, Glen Johnson, and Joe Calzaghe. If anything Tyson having a record anywhere close to Foreman and RJJ despite going to prison as long as he did is a testament to just how good he was. A little overrated by some…yes(I gotta homeboy that say he the GOAT obv I do not agree😭)but there’s definitely an argument for him being better than those guys despite him not beating up guys at the level that Ali fought because as I mentioned, there is not a single boxer in history in my personal opinion who faced as many fighters that were as dangerous as the guys Ali beat. Did he beat as many Hall of Famers as some guys…no. But beating guys who were established before him like Patterson and Liston then a decade later in his 30s beating up and comers like Earnie Shavers(who maybe the hardest puncher of all time), Leon Spinx, and Ken Norton😬maaaan we have no business comparing ANYBODY resume to his and I feel like we do with Tyson and it makes either over or underrate him depending on how you look at guys back in this days which isn’t fair. Ali was inhuman, he would rather die in the ring than the way he actually did. But those other two for the reasons I mentioned I think can be discussed with Tyson without one of them running off from the other. In short I agree with you😂the three of them rank the same it’s just hard for me to rank one over the other two so easily mainly because I remember Tyson and RJJ while also respecting the legend George Foreman

I am very curious about one thing, though if Mike’s in that category of very good fighters and he’s not in the category of great fighters, can you please tell me a few fighters who did get into those gates of greatness and who are in that category of great fighters?

All you ever see on RUclips is comments like “bruh, Tyson would KO Ali in 30 seconds!” And “Tyson is the best, is he fought Foreman, he’d kill him!” Tyson was a great fighter during the 80’s. The fame and money ruined him. He stopped training, started partying, and his career suffered as a result. Is he as good as Ali, Lewis, Foreman, and Louis… no. You can consider anybody overrated if you know how to cherry pick fights in their career and situations surrounding those fights Mike beat Larry Holmes when he was 37 years old, not 40 the same Larry Holmes fought Evander five years later and fought him into a decision and that same Larry Holmes also beat a prime Ray Merson yet Mike gets no credit for that win against Larry HolmesEvander Holyfield loss to Michael Moore blown up light heavyweight himself, and he was also stopped by James Toney, who started out as a middleweight. I just don’t understand why you don’t consider Mike to be an all-time grade. Evander Holyfield loss to Michael Moore blown up light heavyweight himself, and he was also stopped by James Toney, who started out as a middleweight. I just don’t understand why you don’t consider Mike to be a all-time grade. You can make an argument. He’s overrated because you can make that argument about anybody, but to say he’s not an all-time great in boxing I consider George Foreman to be an all-time great but he lost too blown up light heavyweight himself and Jimmy Young. okay so firstly pointing out larry holmes was 37 and not 40 is not a valid argument to anything that was said, I know he wasn't 40 I just said he was because he basically was 40, boxing fans say this kind of stuff all the time, nobody is getting anal on how old someone exactly was, secondly some of what you said was actually true, you finally surpassed all these other retards in the comments, but it's not just who mike tyson fought and how he preferred in the fights that defines his career, it's also who he didn't fight, I know it's almost impossible to literally fight everyone, but there are guy's that mike tyson didn't fight in his prime that guy's like evander holyfield and lennox lewis did fight, just to name a few, david tua, ray mercer, riddick bowe, if mike tyson fought these kind of caliber of fighters in his prime he could arguably have more losses on his record, or more wins, either way he doesn't have enough good wins against guy's of that caliber, and he aged like spoiled milk at the end of his career, imo the guy's he lost to had better resumes, particularly evander holyfield and lennox lewis

      Mike didn’t fight ray mercer, tua, or riddick bowe but he did knock out Jessie Ferguson and holmes who both beat ray mercer. He also stopped Andrew golota who was beating bowe in both fights. He didn’t fight tua at all you got me on that one. But who did tua ever beat to make his name legitimate on anybody’s resume. That’s who your next overrated video should be on. Ronnie shields worked with all three evander mike and tua. Tua was the only one he said was lazy and didn’t want to train

Years away from the sport and was still able to compete at a high level. Past his prime, yeah he got beat. No question. The guy holds the Olympic record and the professional boxing record for fastest knock outs. Then your going to say well who did he beat? @@HawkTalksBoxingas a tyson fan,I think this is a really good,un bias analysis....great analysis even,you may even be completely right....its actually pretty hard to argue against all the well made points you layed out......and ill try not too be too offensive and disagreeable 😊😂....but let me point out a few things.....larry holmes after he lost to tyson,he went on when he was even older,went against an defeated ray mercer,beat him hands down,then gave the great holyfield a heck of a good fight(holmes actually did better against holyfield than tyson did)holmes gave an interview with al albert,before he fought mercer,holmes was asked "would you like to fight tyson again?"holmes response"well,no,I'd rather fight holyfield, cuz tyson has that power" holmes wanted no part of tyson during his 2nd more successful comeback......if tyson gets no credit for his win over holmes,then lewis should get no credit for his win over tyson...yeah lewis,tyson were around the same age,but anyone who knows boxing,knows they peaked at different times,tyson peaked early,lewis peaked much later...up and comer lennox lewis couldn't stop 3rd rate journeymen levi billups...the lewis who came later would of obliterated levi billups...I don't know why spinks is considered a light heavyweight only it seems,he had two victories over holmes(second one admitting was controversial, I actually think holmes won that one,)but spinks then beat cooney who foreman says was one of the hardest punchers he ever fought....say what you will about steffen tangsted but he was the heavyweight champion of Europe...so what else did spinks have to do to prove himself as a heavyweight?.....Tysons second fight against ruddock,ruddock almost killed dokes,tyson had alot of adversity during that second fight and he didn't fold,that completely goes against the claim that all you had to do was stand up to tyson and he would lose,bert sugar puts tyson around 13,14 of all time,that's about where I put him....let's remember lennox lewis has only 44 fights,so let's judge tyson on his 44 fights,that means tyson would of retired after his second win over frank bruno,that means,he never would of fought holyfield or even bruce seldon..had tyson retired then he would of only retired with one loss..so had he retired then he would be better thought of than his is now.....my opinion lennox lewis wasn't tested enough with only 44 fights,to be put on the same level as Muhammad ali...plus when he got stopped twice with one punch,yeah he won both rematches....but imagine if that was tyson or ali who got stopped with one punch,especially in a championship fight?...that would of definitely tarnished Tysons reputation,could u imagine all the haters if tyson during his championship reign got stopped by one punch in a championship fight(you were talking about and pointed out the way tyson lost),my opinion being stopped by one punch was way worse than Tysons loss to douglas....holmes fought alot of the same fighters tyson did but it's tyson who fought the tomatoes cans....

      I'll say this about Tysons reign I'll put it this way.....marciano fought in kinda a weak era too,the greats were not prime,alot of people put down his overall competition....same with holmes,he fought in kind of a mediocre era,he didn't have fighters like frazier(joe),liston,foreman....but holmes is definitely considered a great,so is marciano...though it's questionable competition...but it's abundantly clear thier talent is obvious, though they dont have a great win over a genuinely prime great on thier resume..but for holmes to get to 48-0 and for marcianoto get to 49-0 says something....historian Howard kaplan says he thinks sonny liston should be in the top 5 greats of all time but what all time great did he beat?but like the others his talent is obvious,to be so dominant.....marciano, holmes,liston were all dominant in rather mediocre eras,but thier talent is obvious...but the same can be said about tyson,yeah he reigned in a somewhat questionable,mediocre era, but his talent is more than obvious,so he should be given the reasonable credit,just like all the others
