Well ..let's consider the facts.Tom wrote the song and recorded his version which has a whole lot of soul , grit, regret and atmospheric colour in his poetic words, music and arrangement. Rod...an excellent performer in his own right, did a great and different version based on Tom's model , because he obviously loved the song and appreciated what Tom had done .Rod has also covered some great Dylan songs at times.He knows a great song. when he hears one .He has written some songs himself, but is essentially a performer and interpreter of songs. He tends to be a bit histrionic but I don't mind that at all ..especially in this video version .Either way we can enjoy both versions and many others and in the end the profits and proceeds trickle into Tom's bank account....which is as it should be. because he is the creator.

Yeah, the full moon is important ; ) No one comes close, in my opinion, to Tom's original. I threw my hat in the ring also and covered it in a similar vein to Tom Waits. I covered quite a few of Tom's songs. Good luck

After Rodney plays Tom Wait's "Downtown Train" we are into a Van Morrison gig from the early 199os as far as I can recall.... which he starts with one of his songs that Rod also recorded. later on .."Have i told You Lately that I love you?"....these pieces were originally on some of my old VHS video tapes which i ran onto DVDs...
