Bolton Toy Fair - RANDOM Finds & Retro Games!
Oh you went to Full7 at the right time, when there was an (almost ?) full set of all Neo Geo AES games to contemplate.
Ha, yeah. As I said in the videos, I'm so glad I don't collect for that system! However, it was amazing to see how many Neo Geo games the shops had. Not just 1 or 2, but loads of titles! 👍🏻
I remember playing this til my thumbs fell off in 1983. Slightly disappointed after completing it just to get the flashing 999 score in the corner and a blank screen...
I don't think I've played it since I made this video! I'll have to see if I can complete it to how disappointing it is lol 😂
Not only did they name it Firefox, but they come pretty close to ripping off the logo from the 1982 film of the same name.
I never even noticed that, but you're right! 👍🏻
@@RetroOrBust I guess this sort of thing was commonplace then. It probably would have attracted those who played the Firefox arcade game which was actually a laserdisk game based on the film.
@@zemxxi2765 I remember seeing the cockpit version of Firefox about 40 years ago on holiday. Never played it as it looked too 'advanced' to 8 year old me! 😂
Great video Rob, when I saw the Thames ident at the start I knew we were onto a winner!
Thanks 😁 Took me a while to put that ident together lol. I'll have to do more for the other TV regions 😂
The title music , for the life of me what was it off on the C64 ?? Loader music ?
Yeah, Ocean loader 4 by Jonathan Dunn on the C64 👍🏻
Hehe it’s a constant evolution.
I'll have changed my mind again next week! 😂
A blast from thr past. Copyright sound infringement on every tune. 😂
🤣
Oh man memories. I played that to death as a kid.
5:07 Ride of the Ride of Valkyries by Richard Wagner (Apocalypse Now). 5:25 Star Wars Main Theme by John Williams (and Holst 😉) 5:45 The Charge of the Light Brigade by Max Steiner 😁
Thanks! 😊 I knew I'd heard some of those tunes before but wasn't sure of the titles 👍🏻
I got one in 83 from Santa. Over the years it got wrecked in my parents attic after I moved out. I'm delighted to say I'm going to collect a working one this evening 😁😁😁
There would have been tons of additives in the original biscuits that aren't available now. Probably impossible to do a note-perfect recreation.
Yeah, some of the ingredients I haven't even heard of. An unopened multi-pack sold recently on eBay for around £250!! I took a screenshot of the ingredients list in case I ever want to make some more 😊
would you be interested in Xenogears X Playstation NTSC version ?
I don't really collect PSX games. Thanks for the offer though 👍🏻
Yet again suffering for your art and our entertainment, we salute you 🫡
thanks 😂👍🏻
Haha looks like you had a lot of fun making this Rob.
I give ILM a run for their money! 😂
Awesome mate. I remember getting this for xmas back in the day. Always used to love the noise the gun made when it swiveled. I had just about every Star Wars toy u could get back in the day. My mum sold them all for a fiver when I got older and never thought much about it at the time. Lets just say i'm gutted now i'm older lol, Only things i've got left are a Snaggletooth and Walrusman figures and a door from the talking Imperial Troop Transporter. That was a cool vehicle.
Gutted for you 😭 Yeah, a lot of the toys & play sets had those 'clicking' guns. Must've been a cost-cutting measure lol. I didn't have the Imperial Troop Transporter back in the day. I bought a boxed Palitoy version from a great shop in Scarborough in 2001 for £35! We went to the same shop last year & it wasn't a patch on what it was back then. It was mostly Lego & Pop vinyls now 😔
Aw man. I had a tauntaun but never the base. Had an ATST too and a few exploding speeder bikes. Always wanted a snowspeeder. Some things you just never forget 😅
I have far too many Star Wars toys lol! I kept all my stuff from back then. Luckily, my Dad kept all the boxes too. Put them inside each other like Russian dolls, wrapped them in bin bags & put them in the loft for 20-odd years, so they're mostly mint! Check out my Star Wars room tour from a few years ago 👍🏻
@RetroOrBust sweet! My mam threw all my stuff out when I went to uni 😢 😭
@@Fanto_Sir 😭
Very cool. What an intense hit of nostalgia that was 😂 playing with Star Wars figures in the snow.
I made sure I got all the shots I needed for the video. I certainly didn't want to go back out there, it was freezing! 🥶
omg! i wasn't able to pass the "run" away from the monster aswell! it's incredible to see it after so many years! i played it around 1992 and i was 12 years old! hahahhaha
It was great to finally finish the game but I'll probably never play it again. I hated the last half of the game. Wandering aimlessly around the catacombs was horrendous! 😔
I always wanted the Tin Can Alley shooting game and Big Trak but never got them, ive since bought Big Trak when it was re released, but not found a Tin Can Alley in good working condition, those 70's electronics dont hold up well.
I almost bought the new Bigtrak a few years ago thinking it was the original. Luckily I noticed that the box had a website printed on it & that's how I knew! (I'd prefer an original) 70s electronics were pretty simple in comparison to today's tech. I'm sure with a little tinkering it would be easily fixable. 👍🏻
get a multicart or even better a PiTrex and you get all the Vectrex titles ever released plus play battlezone, star wars, tempest, etc demos and even faster version of berzerk
I keep meaning to get one of those.
Here's a fact that I don't ever hear anybody talk about. Most of us only had a few games for the life of the entire system. When I was in elementary school, everybody either had a Sega Genesis or SNES. Me and most of my friends only collected about 10 games for the entire life of the system because they were expensive and we didn't have money. It wasn't like today where you can have hundreds of games for one system. Some people might have been lucky but everybody I hung out with, I don't know anybody that had more than 10 or so games. If it hadn't been for rentals, We wouldn't have got to play anything else. Obviously, we also traded it a lot amongst each other. I don't really remember people starting to get a large number of games for a console until PlayStation came out. A lot of those games would go on sale or become greatest hits and you could get them for almost nothing. Let me say this also and if somebody had the same experience please comment. I don't remember there being console wars. I had a Sega because it's what my parents could afford to get me and my cousin had an SNES. It wasn't a war. You just bought what you could afford based on which games you like. We never argued over which one was better. I thought they were both great. I don't even remember people at school arguing about which console was better.
You're absolutely right. I had roughly 10 games for my Mega Drive back in the day & a few years later when I got a SNES, only about 5 or 6! Before that though, I had a Commodore 64 & had loads of games as they were cheaper, especially the "budget" games that were £1.99/£2.99. Even the full price games were only about £9.99 so I could afford to buy more. As for the console wars, when I was at school, me & my friend used to bicker like hell over whose computer was better - my C64 or his ZX Spectrum! 😂
I once had the General Lee Wrist Racer, I could not get it out of the dome I did not know that the dome or launcher had to be push a second time to release the car.
When I filmed this, I'd forgotten that you had to press the button twice to release the car. To be honest, I'd not played with it for almost 40 years at the time.
Brilliant!! Hilarious outtakes Rob!!
Sweet video! New Subscriber!🔥
Thanks! 😊👍🏻
Itching like a m’fkr with that on 😂
😂 It had been at the bottom of a wardrobe for years & for some reason, I got it in my head that it was full of lice. It wasn't lice, just bits of fluff! 😂
Thanks for all the videos this year, I have really been enjoying them 🤘
Thanks! 😊🤘
Loving the outtakes "she-ra's pissed" 😂😂
I'm surprised He-man remained standing. He's the one with the wobbly legs! 😂
Great year of content Rob! Keep up the good work!
Cheers, Lewis 👍🏻
Dam I had this as a kid in primary school. Always thought the big red thing coming down was a shield to go inside. LOL
Yeah, they do look like you can fly through them! Great game. Way ahead of it's time!
I'm so glad I chose Firefox ❤
I never had any of these tabletop games as a kid but this is probably one of the best of all of them! 👍🏻
That X-box fact was not so mind boggling to me. Of course the time will increase for each year that passes. I think I got what you were aiming for, that the gap between an "old" console, and a much more advanced machine (the X-box) was tighter, than the time that has passed since the original X-box was launched. But as I said, since time increases all the time, it will continue to be a bigger gap for each year that passes...
I agree. I think the reason for it is that time seemed to go slower when we were kids & now as we're older it passes so fast. So the time between the launch of the 2 systems seemed like an eternity, & the release of the OG Xbox, when I was working at Electronics Boutique, doesn't feel all that long ago to me. 👍🏻 But yeah, it was the least mind blowing fact but thought I'd still include it.
I've got some audio clip of these old toy commercials on my channel. I once had Mr. Frosty and He-Man action figures. I wish I had Kongman.
Kongman's great 👍🏻
@RetroOrBust i never had it as a kid.
The UK was ace, the adverts were amazing too and amazing theme tunes on TV.
Always wanted a Big Yellow Teapot, but my Old Fella told me Mam there was no way I was having one.
You can always get one from eBay now! 😉 Also, just noticed your username & currently watching the first episode of Alfonso Bonzo on RUclips 😂 I always thought it was on in the 80s but according to Wikipedia it was 1990! Also, I didn't realise Imelda Davies from Grange Hill played Billy's sister!
The kids in the transformers ad all looked like future murderers.
😂
Did any kid not want a Mr Frosty, but id imagine they were rubbish as soon as you used up the flavour packets.
Mr Frosty is a pain in the arse! Check out my first ever video & you'll see why! 😂
Cripes. I remembered every word from that 'a la carte' ad when l saw it. Loved Ghost Castle and Mouse Trap. Also had that 12" B.A. lf l remember his earrings come out but there wasn't much play value in him 😂
Can you believe that I've never played Mouse Trap! Or Ghost Castle for that matter, even though I own it! I removed Mr.T from the cardboard insert for this video & was surprised how hollow he feels lol. But yeah, not a lot of play value. Maybe that's why they released different costumes for him. An iconic toy that looks great on display though! 👍🏻
@RetroOrBust We grew up in the best time didn't we? Heh
Great video Rob - you do a lot of research!! And the production quality just goes up and up!!!
Cheers Ady! 👍🏻

Thank you 👍🏻 I must've wrote his name down wrong in my notes! 😞
performing the Adventure secret as a kid was such a cool feeling. i don't even remember how i learned about it.
It's a wonder how anyone ever found some of those Easter eggs back then before the internet! Well, before they were printed in a cheats section in a magazine, that is.
Just subbed and shared your video on bluesky with the large gaming community over there. Nice to see a fellow Northerner Retro enthusiast 🎉
Thanks! ❤️ I haven't moved over to this Bluesky thingy yet, but might do in the New Year 👍🏻
@RetroOrBust oh you should 1000% the gaming community is just full of lovely people. No nasty comments or hate posting. Some people try and sneak in but they get blocked pretty quick. It's the nicestbinline space for gaming chatter since MySpace era in 2007 lol.
@@Fanto_SirBloody hell! MySpace. "Now, that's a name I've not heard in a looong time."
Not sure on ones I know but I DID know about the Duck Hunt one because it was one of the few games I could get my Dad to play and we had fun messing with each other in 2 player mode.
I liked the D-Pad donkey kong game.Black Knight was the first pinball with a saveable score. Raiden 2 runs on a 386 board. Thats all I got off the top of my head.
I suppose one other one is that until the 486, computers were very much integer based machines. Floating point numbers could be done in software, but it was almost alien to them. Thats why 3D games were so challenging.
Interesting! I never knew that!
We played Duck Hunt that way a lot back in the 80s. Someone would control the duck to make it harder. You can also cheat that way because you can control the duck and thus know when they are going to change direction. If you don't make any movements for a couple seconds the duck starts switching directions on its own again.
like him, i never heard this.
Did you know you can become small with firepower in super mario bros nes
No I didn't! Just looked that up & found some other tricks I never knew about!
Just realized. The fact that real pong was built in logic hardware means that all home ports of pong are “emulators”
You're right! Never thought of that! 👍🏻
How u get duck hunt no mario
Huh? 🤔
@RetroOrBust Duck hunt carts must be rare. I only ever saw them with super mario bros.
@@deadvikingtrolls Ah, right! Sorry, I only just realised you replied. I'm not sure how I acquired it. I have the double cart with Duck Hunt & Mario, plus I also have the 2 games on separate carts!
@@RetroOrBust never let anything happen to them. This new stuff isn't cutting it.
You lost me when you said "Nez"... It was always pronounced as an initialism... N.E.S.
I've always pronounced it NEZ lol. Same with the SNEZ. I blame Violet Berlin from the TV show 'Bad Influence', as she always pronounced them that way! Don't ask how I used to pronounce 'Sega'! 😂
Megadrive was our first console as well. Surprised with how smart I was as a child, who would have been 4 or 5 when we got it, I didn't put two and two together, since my dad had it at his office. It was a two pack, Sonic 1 and Quackshot or We Love Donald Duck as it's known in Japan. We would also later get some child inappropriate games in Predator II and Alien 3. Both we never figured out how to play.
I loved my Mega Drive back then. It was great not having to wait almost 10 minutes for a game to load after having a Commodore 64 for so long! I've recently got Alien 3 but I haven't played Predator 2 in a while. Might have to give it another go soon! 👍🏻
