Thank you for making this video! I just started playing harmonica around ten days ago and I went with the Special 20 since that’s the one nearly everyone recommends for beginners, but as a history buff the one I really wanted was the Marine Band 125th Anniversary model. All the complaints online about yanked mustaches, cut lips, and swollen wooden combs made me hesitant to buy a Marine Band, at least as a beginner. When you said that you felt blind trying to play the crossover version that made perfect sense and was the extra nudge I needed to buy a Marine Band. I figured it was worth giving up a little comfort for more tactile feedback and to hopefully get that classic vintage blues tone I’ve heard my entire life in old recordings. I played my Marine Band for the first time last night back to back with the Special 20 and I was surprised to find that it’s actually more comfortable than the SP20. I didn’t realize it was thinner than the SP20 which I think is what makes it more comfortable for my lips. It’s easier for me to play single notes and easier to get the difficult low and high notes to sound. It seems to require less air. It’s also beautiful, no plastic. Just steel, brass, and wood. A relic from the past. And I do like the tone better. The SP20 sounds fine, but playing it back to back with the MB the SP sounds a bit muffled and too smooth, while the MB has a clear, “breathy” tone that’s just what I was looking for. But I am glad I have the SP20 because I can use it for heavy practice and save the MB for just playing and relaxing. Thanks again for the video!

Cool, mic is much quiter than the backing track or i think you played too quite sometimes, cut that out 😆 I love the fact that Junior Wells does the Juke reference at the end of the track in his version.

My friend, take your marine band and go for a hike in the woods. Take your shoes off and blow some blues by a creek or something. You'll be surprised how much better you'll feel.

I've never had a problem with the Bluesmaster. Mine have been easy to play and easy to bend. But I guess it's a crap shoot with harps- sometimes you get a bad one. I recently bought a Hohner Big River, as I have a friend that is a pro player and that's all he uses. I guess I got lucky as it plays great! I always like it when non indorsed players like yourself do honest reviews.

hi! I used to completely agree with you, but recently my opinion about seydel has changed. my favorite is honer, especially marine band. however, i have a seydel 1847, which at first was just like you said. however, after serious and meticulous reed adjustments, it now plays like butter. with little air, quickly, without delay. it took me more experience and practice to adjust it well. now one of my best playable c-accordions is my seydel 1847. greetings.

Frank, I enjoyed this and like rbking9296 I'm raw and 67 (despite messing about with harps for maybe 4 decades). You do not have to conform to the common perceived wisdom My friend. If We all did that then there would be just a single flavour of ice cream, thank heavens that We don't, so We can be "Circus Minds" as Hendrix put it. I currently prefer Special 20's. Why ? Because, they play better than I can, I can get them for £28 and I can drawbend & overblow them. PS I'm NOT a Cat Person (really very NOT), but Shadow seems bloody cool. My sadly now deceased friend Jules (who understood feline intellect) oncetold Me that you can not choose a cat, because they select you, she was one of the wisest most wistful people that I'll ever meet. She had a cool taste in music too. Missya Julie !! How about a song called "Shadow Cat Blues" ? Maybe ask Shadow first tho......

It's another "Suzuki" that makes the motorcycles... Suzuki it's a name in Japan as "Smith" in USA. On the harmonica you can see one or two initials before "Suzuki" I hope you got the point

Buy a hohner golden melody and your marine band reed plates will fit in it. Just swap them out and then you can take it apart whenever you wish.

Yeah my only suzuki harp is the folkmaster and even after gapping and stuff it just sucks. I got it for $5 on aliexpress and still hate it. Its better to just spend the money on another Easttop in my opinion. So far every T008k I have picked up for either $20 or less has played great and feels great, especially in the Low F one i have. As far as best harps, I still gotta go with the 1847 Noble. I dont think ill ever be able to afford a second one, haha. But man it plays well.

Manji is my main harp, if customized they are quite descent but manji sky is more like marine band

Had the opposite experience with this harp. I felt it was extremely responsive and incredibly easy to bend. I find the full length cover plates to be extremely comfortable too. I like it more than special 20s or rockets. I will say that when I was less efficient with my bending technique, I would get a squeal, but as I improved my bending technique, stopped forcing bends and had better breath support, the bends came smooth as butter with no squeal. I suspect you might just be partial and accustomed to brass reeds, which play a bit differently than phosphor bronze. I hope you find the perfect harp for you!

Hey bro, I own several bluesmasters and never had that noise come out of a bend lol. I compare bluesmaster and harpmaster to sp 20 but cheaper. I now play mostly manji but still own bluesmaster and they play fine. Keep harping stay strong mate. Cheers from Nova Scotia Canada
